* ''WesternAnimation/FunAndFancyFree'': The original story of ''Bongo'' [[still has a happy ending]], but is still more cynical and violent. Notably, Bongo never becomes accepted by the other bears, his beloved rejects him for Lumpjaw, and the happy ending comes from another circus troupe finding him and re-introducing him to civilization. In the Disney adaptation, the bears and his beloved accept him.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{The Jungle Book|1967}}'' is quite a different story from Creator/RudyardKipling's ''Literature/JungleBooks'' (yes, two of them), to the degree [[InNameOnly it's effectively an original production that happens to share some of the same character names]] (and even then, "Mowgli" was intended to be pronounced "MAU-glee"). The stories, which could be quite violent at times, depict the orphaned Mowgli growing into a strong and intelligent young man whose jungle upbringing makes him something of a NobleSavage. Baloo is a sleepy JerkWithAHeartOfGold, rather than a kindly GentleGiant. Kaa the python, while large, intimidating, and alien, is one of Mowgli's ''allies'', not enemies. Hathi the elephant is wise, powerful, and so intimidating that even Shere Khan is afraid of him ("When Fear Came"), instead of a pompous ass who fancies himself a Victoria Cross-winning British Army colonel. All this can be easily explained by the fact that Walt Disney specifically told the production crew ''not'' to read the book. He gave an outline on the characters and plot ideas he wanted and didn't want the book itself to be used as a reference - especially as the original script and songs, inspired by the book, were substantially darker than most other Disney films at the time (to the point Disney fired the original writer despite his long history with them, and the only song kept before changing composers was a cheery tune that became the SignatureSong of the film, "The Bear Necessities").
