* NonLethalKO: It's very, very rare for characters to actually die in his stories, regardless of how over-the-top the finishing blow was. In the case of villains, he's stated that he prefers for them to survive, but with their dreams destroyed, seeing it as a more fitting punishment. However, his extreme reluctance to kill off characters outside of flashbacks (to the point at least one character who ''did'' die in the story's present only had their death ''shown'' in a flashback) has received some criticism, leading to the long-lasting "Nobody dies in One Piece" meme.
