Tony Tony Chopper is a reindeer made sentient by eating the Human-Human Fruit (''Hito Hito no Mi''), and joined the Straw Hats to serve as the ship's doctor. Cast out of his herd for having a blue nose then eating his Devil Fruit and being feared by the people of Drum Island as a monster, he found acceptance and friendship with his mentor Dr. Hiluluk who tragically died after passing onto him a passion for medicine, if not actual skill. He then went under the tutelage of Dr. Kuhera to actually learn being a doctor. Although he initially mistrusted humans, after having met and joined the Straw Hats, he has become very curious about the world and is eager to please.\\\

Although Chopper is nearly always seen in his hybrid form, small and weak, he's not exactly a wimp when it comes to fighting. In his most humanlike form, he's quite tall and very strong. He's also developed a powerful drug named the ''Rumble Ball'' which once eaten allows him to transform into seven forms with their own strengths and weakness, a fighting style which he improves upon during the timeskip to transform without the drug, only using it to unleash the powerful Monster Form.\\\

Chopper is a proficient physician, and his dream is to become a doctor capable of curing all disease, due to his accidentally hastening the death of his already sickly father-figure, Dr. Hiruluk. He has also resolved to prove himself as a man worthy of being a pirate, which sometimes seems at odds with his child-like behavior and gullible personality.\\\

His first bounty was 50 berries, and his current bounty is still a measly 100 berries. The World Government is apparently unaware of his capabilities as a doctor or a fighter, and consider him the crew's pet. He currently holds two dubious "records" for his bounties; Lowest starting bounty (for his 50 berry bounty) and lowest active bounty (for his 100 berry bounty).

* AdaptationalBadass: In the VideoGame/OnePiecePirateWarriors series, he can kick ass in his hybrid form, which has no combat ability.
* {{Adorkable}}: Try watching him geek out over Franky's now body without wanting to pick him up and give him a '''humongous''' hug.
* AffectionateNickname: After asking her to show him respect for his [[TeenGenius genius]], [[GenkiGirl Carrot]] starts calling him "Cho-niki" (a play on the Japanese word for brother and interpreted as "Bropper" in the English version) out of respect/affection.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Literally, being a send-up of Rudolph. He was secluded by his herd even before eating the Human-Human Fruit because of his blue nose. What caused the herd to finally exile him was when he ate the Devil Fruit.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Chopper is the youngest Straw Hat member and is treated like a younger surrogate brother to the older members, especially Zoro and Robin
* BadassAdorable: Small, kind, ''insanely'' huggable, but very strong nonetheless. Too bad for him, the Marines only notices the "adorable" part, hence his small bounty.
* BadassBookworm: Being the doctor of the crew, Chopper possesses a vast knowledge of both medicine and medical drugs as well as the preparations of most remedies and ointments ranging from regular fruits, roots, and vegetables that can be found and used on most islands. He is also capable of administering surgery and resuscitation.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Justified since he has hooves. The only time he wears shoes is in ''Strong World'', when the Straw Hats perform their BigDamnHeroes moment by bursting into the stronghold of the movie's BigBad Shiki, [[SharpDressedMan dressed like the mafia]], and completely armed to the teeth with guns.
* BeastMan: In his Heavy Point he's bulky and hairy, to the point that in this form many mistake him for a gorilla.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Played for laughs in the gag comic "Mugiwara Theatre - Red-Hair of Class 3"; he was depicted as a monstrous-looking problem student and a bully who coerced students into giving him cotton candy... but his "secret" is that he's actually a cute reindeer, much to Shanks' shock.
* BerserkButton:
** He's not a tanuki! Or a raccoon! Or a gorilla! (Heavy Point) Or a beetle! (post-time-skip Horn Point)
** Don't do anything to disgrace the medical profession. Hogback learns that the hard way.
* BigBrotherInstinct: In the Punk Hazard arc, he developed one for the children on Punk Hazard, especially Mocha, after learning of the medical horrors inflicted on them by [[MadScientist Caesar Clown]] to turn them into giants with short lifespans.
* BishonenLine: His Horn Point form looks notably more human after the time-skip. Although Luffy calls him a beetle due to the horns.
* BrainyBrunette: He has brown fur and is the crew's doctor.
* BreakoutCharacter: Chopper ended up becoming the series' mascot, with most of the series' merchandise being Chopper related and getting his own spinoff.
* BrokenPedestal: He used to admire Dr. Hogback for being such a skilled doctor. He's unwilling to admit that he's connected to Moria, but after hearing from Hogback his story and motivations, Chopper declares he's no longer worthy of being called a doctor.
* ButtMonkey: His bounty of fifty Berries causes him ''great'' shame. Anytime his bounty is brought up, he has either a rare ''[[PlayedForLaughs amusing]]'' HeroicBSOD, or he curls up in his CornerOfWoe. Obviously, [[Creator/EiichiroOda Oda]] made this into a RunningGag.
* CanadaEh: While real nations do not exist in the One Piece world, [[Creator/EiichiroOda the author]] has stated that Chopper would likely be from Canada, as reindeer are indigenous to that area. Whether intentionally or not, this is also reflected in his personality, as he is by far the nicest member of the Straw Hat crew.
* CharacterDevelopment: After the timeskip, Chopper seems to have grown more confident, much like Usopp. He no longer strives to be looked at as a human, now only wanting to "be a monster that can help Luffy" as he put it. He even has grown mature enough to smack his crewmates, mostly Zoro and Luffy, when they try to do something stupid or extreme. He also seems to have outgrown most habits mentioned above, but his habit of peeking still remains.
* CherryBlossoms: A part of his arc, introduction and jolly roger.
* CombatMedic: He's the crew's doctor, and has no problems contributing to the fights.
* CowardlyLion: Like Usopp, he can be a scaredy-cat at times. Once push comes into shove, however...
** Not so much after the TimeSkip, it seems. He's already faced down a particularly vicious [[ThreateningShark Shark Fish-man]] without losing his confident grin for a second.
** [[spoiler:Luffy raising the fear level to one of the four emperors was too much even for the new Chopper.]]
* CrossdressingVoices: Being a RidiculouslyCuteCritter, naturally he's voiced by women.
* CuteBruiser: He's cute as a button, but he packs a mighty punch.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Chopper was ostracized for his blue nose, and kicked out of his herd after eating the Human-Human Fruit. He was also rejected by Drum Kingdom's humans as a monster. The only human who cared for him was a quack doctor named Dr. Hiriluk. Being trained as a doctor, he got confused by the skull-and-crossbones, which Hiriluk described as a symbol of strength for pirates, but in medical terms meant ''certain death''. As a result, he accidentally fatally poisoned Dr. Hiriluk. So his father-figure walked into a trap set by Drum's King, Wapol, and committed suicide.[[note]]Although Hiriluk was already terminally ill anyway, and willingly ate the soup made from the poison mushroom Chopper had found after seeing how much effort he had gone through to get it.[[/note]]
* DeadlyDoctor:
** Developed a drug specifically to be used for battle, albeit only on himself.
** Uses his anatomical knowledge to tell the other Straw Hats ''exactly'' what they need to do to break Oars' spine.
** Aside from the above, he's not much for using medical skills/equipment in battle... except in videogames, where hurling vials with toxic (or [[StuffBlowingUp explosive]]) chemicals is usually one of his basic attacks.
* DeadlyUpgrade: The Rumble Balls give him access to four extra forms (in addition to his default three) for a period of three minutes. If he takes two within six hours, he loses control of his transformations. If he takes three, he ends up in "Monster Point", an uncontrollable beast who is a danger to his comrades and himself. [[spoiler:He can now control Monster Point for a few minutes but is still drained for a two to three hours afterward.]]
* TheDeterminator: He won't let ''anybody'' die on his watch, especially a friend. If you need a life-saving treatment and he can provide it, Chopper does ''not'' take no for an answer. [[AfraidOfNeedles Olga Myskina from the Heart of Gold special learned this all too well.]]
* DitzyGenius: He's a doctor and really knows his craft, but he may be even more excitable than Luffy (he believes Usopp's tall tales, for one). He also did not seem to be able to tell the Fake Straw Hats were fake right away.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Despite being a powerful pirate in his own right, the Marines mistake Chopper for simply being the Straw Hats' TeamPet and gave him [[JokeCharacter a laughably small bounty]] as a result. Even his own crewmates has seen him as "emergency rations" on occasion.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: One of the most notable examples. * EasilyImpressed: He's just as easy to impress by silly things as Luffy, if not more.
* EatTheDog: Sanji jokes at first about him being their emergency rations, which comes back into play ''686 issues later'' when, without Sanji to cook for them, Luffy is starving, and Luffy's subsequent [[LethalChef attempt to cook]] results in crew-wide food poisoning and everyone ''begging'' Sanji to come back to them.
* EnemyScan: Brain Point gives him the power to scan for his enemy's weak points. [[RememberedICouldFly He doesn't use it much anymore]].
* TheExile: He was exiled from his herd after eating the Human-Human Fruit.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[WesternAnimation/RudolphTheRedNosedReindeer Rudolph]], natch. Unfortunately, while Rudolph is able to gain acceptance, Chopper's situation gets ''even worse'' after he eats the Human Human fruit, and when he encounters the herd years later while searching for a cure for Hiruluk, he gets attacked by them for no good reason. Also of the Comicbook/TheIncredibleHulk, of all things, if you recall that classic Bruce Banner was a med student before he was a nuclear physicist, and transforming makes up the bulk of his combat abilities.
* FunnyAnimal: In his Walk Point, which is his true form.
* FunnyBruceLeeNoises: Frequently, when using his Kung Fu Point.
* GeniusSweetTooth: Chopper is an accomplished doctor, ''at 15'', and loves anything sweet, especially cotton candy.
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: When Hatchan accidentally reveals himself as a Fish-man when trying to help save Camie from being sold as a slave, the audience starts to throw objects at poor Hatchan, to which Nami states the crowds' reason behind doing so is because they despise all Fishmen. Upon hearing this Chopper's only response is to ask why since undersea dwellers like Hatchan and Camie are not any different from people. Chopper just cannot understand the mindset of the racist aristocrats and does not want to.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: In Totto Land arc, after Carrot knocks over the cauldron and splashes Brulee's group, causing chaos, he slips out of his chains, munches on a Rumble Ball, goes Monster Point and immediately grabs the giant talking crocodile guy who he then uses to smash the others.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Initially {{inverted}}, as he wore shorts but usually not shirts. He wore a jacket in Enies Lobby, but no shirt under. {{Averted}} since the time skip, since he now wears an A-shirt.
* HalfHumanHybrid: His Brain Point, though all his forms bar Walk count.
* HappyDance: When a human flatters him with a compliment, Chopper tries to put up a front that [[DontYouDarePityMe he doesn't need patronizing comments from them]], but he relishes the praise and starts doing a swaying dance with his mouth hanging open in a gawky smile (a ShoutOut to Ken Shimura's "Dirty Old Man Dance") that reveals his inner happiness.
* HonorBeforeReason: One time when [[TheDitz Gedatsu]] drowned one of his enforcers with his swamp cloud attack, Chopper felt duty-bound as a doctor to save him. This did involve [[WorstAid going into Heavy Point and beating on his chest]].
* HourOfPower: Actually three minutes of power, but that's all the time he needs to kick somebody's ass with his Rumble Ball.
* HumanityEnsues: Used to be just a regular reindeer until eating a Devil's Fruit which made him anthropomorphic.
* IAmNotWeasel: People often mistake his hybrid form for a tanuki. His Heavy Point form is mistaken for a gorilla.
** In the Funimation dub he's mistaken for a "raccoon-dog", causing the joke ([[DontExplainTheJoke playing on the similarity between "tanuki" and "tonakai"]]) to be LostInTranslation.
** This has followed him through the TimeSkip as well. His new Horn Point form makes Luffy think he's a stag beetle, much to Chopper's irritation.
* IconicOutfit: His simple burgundy shorts and original hat. His TimeSkip hat is also fairly well known now.
* ImADoctorNotAPlaceholder: In the English dub, Chopper pulls this with Luffy over being categorized as a "pet" by the World Government with his paltry first bounty after the Enies Lobby incident.
* InASingleBound: His Jumping Point form, which greatly increases his jumping ability.
* IntellectualAnimal: At age 17, the Series/DoogieHowserMD of intellectual animals.
* JerkassFacade: However, it's ''very'' flimsy. When he receives mushy praise, he responds with [[BadLiar jovial insults]], though usually while waving his arms cutely or doing a happy dance.
** At the beginning of episode 128, the royal doctor of Alabasta [[LampshadeHanging hung a lampshade on it]] when he "translated" Chopper's insults as gratitude.
** He likely picked this up from [[{{Tsundere}} Dr. Kureha]], who never openly complimented his growing skill as a doctor, and literally chased him off with her stash of ornamental weaponry when he left, but obviously respected his skill and cared about him (and still does – after he left, she referred to him as "my stupid son").
* KidAppealCharacter: Inadvertently became one and Oda decided to ramp up his {{Chibi}} qualities to accentuate his cuteness even more.
* KiddieKid: He's 15, and only a couple years younger than Luffy, but he can also be very childish and extremely gullible. It may involve that he was 8 years old when he ate the Human-Human fruit (his hybrid form has not changed, but his reindeer form has grown up).

* LonerTurnedFriend: His blue nose and Devil Fruit caused him to be shunned by his own herd, and after Hiriluk and Kureha took him in, he still had no friends until he met the Straw Hats.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: His Guard Point form, which grows thick fur that acts as a cushion against attacks.
* TheMedic: His role in the crew as doctor.
* MightyGlacier: His ''[[TopHeavyGuy Heavy Point]]'', ''Arm Point'' and ''[[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever Monster Point]]'' forms.
* MoralityPet:
** To Robin. She bonds with him very quickly after doing her damndest trying to dispel his image of her being really scary, and she generally has his welfare in mind during battle. She also becomes really pissed at Franky after [[spoiler:Franky talks with his regular potty mouth and scowl in Chopper's Body]].
** Also, threatening Chopper is the easiest way to get the protective side out Zoro.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: Sported some impressive guns in his Pre-Timeskip Arm Point form, and true to his appearance, his strength was the real deal while using it. His Post-Timeskip Heavy Point, meanwhile, now looks like the Incredible Hulk and is able to match the power of a giant Fishmen's hammer swing with a punch.
* MyGreatestFailure: When his mentor/father figure Dr. Hiriluk fell ill, Chopper tried to nurse him back to health. He only succeeded in getting him killed. Possibly {{subverted}}. Apparently, Dr. Hiriluk ''knew'' the mushroom was poisonous, but used it anyway to hasten his death, as he had a terminal illness, in addition to making his adoptive "son" feel good about himself. Then he [[HeroicSacrifice blew himself up at Wapol's castle]] before the mushroom could kill him.
* NeverBareheaded: He always wears his pink hat.
** Post-time skip, he is always wearing his new cap, which is actually a bonnet on top of his old hat.
* NiceGuy: One of the kindest characters in the series.
* NiceHat: Given to him by Dr. Hiriluk. Best not to ask how he managed to get it on there. Or how he puts it on, as several times he's been seen without it, and later with it on.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: Isn't attracted to human females, so he's the only male character who can see Nami naked with impunity. This could be from the fact that Chopper is a doctor and is used to seeing naked bodies. Also because he's not really human.
** As of the Zou arc, the latter may be the real reason. In Chapter 814, he becomes smitten with a [[PettingZooPeople Reindeer Mink]]. In Chapter 888, it may be hinted at with Carrot, a Rabbit Mink, as well.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Some of his forms are a case of this, most notably his most common one; he's 15/[[TimeSkip 17]], but not that you would know it from Brain Point.
* OhCrap: Chopper really freaks out the moment he recognizes the person he found washed ashore at a beach in Wano as none other than [[spoiler:''Big Mom'']].
* OutsideContextProblem: Chopper, mostly thanks to his Rumble Balls. Zoan users have three transformations: their default form, an animal hybrid, and a full animal form. Chopper has seven transformations that mix the strengths and weaknesses of his default three forms, which surprises even people who are used to fighting Devil Fruit users. [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Then there is what happens if he eats three Rumble Balls within six hours]] before the TimeSkip.
* OutOfFocus: He, Sanji, Nami, and Brook during the second half of the Dressrosa Arc. They were absent from the story for more than a year and a half in the real world before reappearing (from December 2013 to July 2015).
* ParentalAbandonment: Herd abandonment, to be exact. Already disliked for his abnormal blue nose, when he accidentally ate a Devil Fruit and turned into a human-reindeer hybrid, they cast him out of the group- Chopper's exact parentage among them is never elaborated upon, but if his parents were among the group, the relationship had to be really ugly. Chopper later confronted the leader of the herd in a violent and nearly lethal confrontation that netted him a broken horn and leg, so we know there is no love to be found with them.
* PartialTransformation: His regular form (Brain Point), the miniature humanoid with antlers, is technically his hybrid human/reindeer form, also a case of ShapeshifterDefaultForm. His ''true'' form, of course, is as a real reindeer (Walk Point).
* PettingZooPeople: In some of his forms due to his shape shifting abilities. The most human-like one is probably his pre-timeskip Jumping Point. The new Horn Point also generally has the proportions of a pre-teen human, though his forearms are swollen.
* PowerFist: In Arm Point.
* RealMenWearPink: Chopper's main color scheme is pink and he always wears his trademark pink hat.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: In fact; his cuteness is the very reason why the Marines underestimated him and gave him a pathetically low bounty.
* RunningGag:
** Chopper's complete inability to hide behind corners. He hides backwards so only his head is hidden and ''the rest of his body'' is exposed.
** When somebody gets injured, Chopper has a tendency to call for a doctor, only for someone nearby to remind him that ''he's'' the doctor.
** When complimented, he acts like a {{tsundere}} and says it doesn't affect him, while doing a happy dance that totally shows how he really feels. Nami even lampshaded it by saying he's the kind of guy who just can't hide his feelings. It was rooted in his initial distrust of humans conflicting with his happiness over the praise.
** Being mistaken for a tanuki.
* ScreamingWarrior: He hollers and screams like Creator/BruceLee while in Kung Fu Point.
* ShapeshifterDefaultForm: His typical chibi/child like appearance. Interestingly, as seen through the TimeSkip, it's the only form of his that doesn't age. Also extra interestingly, his chibi form is technically ''not'' his default form; his real reindeer body is, although he rarely changes into it.
* SoLastSeason: While his Rumble Ball transformations are fairly versatile, they've been getting noticeably less and less effective as the series has worn on. He threw Kalifa's bathtub – this alerted Nami to the Bubble-Bubble Fruit's weakness to water and also turned Sanji back to normal. Then he interrupted Zoro and Sniper King's fight with Kaku and Jabra – the distraction bought Nami enough time to get the handcuffs off them.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: He can talk to animals due to [[AnimalTalk being an animal himself]].
* SpeciesSurname: The "surname" portion of his full name, "Tony Tony", comes from "''tonakai''", the Japanese for "reindeer".

* SweetTooth: He likes anything sweet, but especially cotton candy, hence his nickname.
* SwissArmyHero: Each form he turns into has its advantages and disadvantages, and his combat style relies on him shifting between each one at the correct time.
* TalkingAnimal: His Devil Fruit gives him the intelligence and abilities of a person. Maybe even moreso, considering [[Series/DoogieHowserMD he was an experienced doctor]] [[ImprobableAge at age 15]].
* TapOnTheHead: When he was with Dr. Kureha, she had him give patients concussions as a form of anesthetic.

Despite some initial mistrust, she gradually settled into the crew. Since those early uncertain days, she's become something of the crew's TeamMom, and occasionally plays the role of CoolBigSis for Nami. Her Devil Fruit, the Flower-Flower Fruit (''Hana Hana no Mi''), lets her sprout replicas of her limbs, and later her entire body, from any surface. She is twenty-eight years old (thirty post-TimeSkip).\\\

Unfortunately, her past eventually caught up to her and it was revealed that she's been on the run from the World Government for twenty years, after [[DoomedHometown her home island of Ohara was razed]], and a large bounty was placed on her head. However, after the rest of the crew proved that they were willing to essentially declare war on the World Government in order to get her back, she realized that she had finally found her place in life, and that she was not a burden to her new friends.\\\

* AntagonistAbilities: Introduced as morally ambiguous, her powers make her an efficient LongRangeFighter who can easily cripple her opponents with virtually no opportunity for resistance, with [[PowersDoTheFighting little action needed from her end]]. Now that she's a protagonist, her abilities are kept in check by either not giving her too many fights or somehow handicapping her when she has the opportunity.
** This is actually more of a case of her being very cautious, unlike the rest of the crew. She tends to avoid fighting or using her ability at all unless she's forced to, which gives her several advantages, mainly that of ambiguity, as because she doesn't fight, no one can properly gauge her strengths or weaknesses. * BadassInDistress: She willingly becomes a prisoner to the World Government in the Enies Lobby arc. After the Straw Hats declare war on the World Government, she plays a leading role in her own rescue mission and helps the Straw Hats defeat [=CP9=].

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Typically abandons her colleagues to save herself when the Marines close in on her, knowing that they'd betray her given the chance. Naturally, that doesn't roll with the Straw Hats. * BuildingSwing: One of the uses for her power is connecting long chains of arms that she uses to swing from building to building. Not as fast as Luffy does it, but it's also much more graceful and controlled.
* CharacterDevelopment: Before the timeskip, she often spoke only when spoken to or if something noteworthy happened. Her calmness is likely a result of the childhood that led to her life of hardship. The calamity that befell Ohara had a profound and traumatizing effect on Robin as a child, which she has only just begun to recover from. However, as she begins to spend more time around the crew, her personality begins to ease up. When Robin is rescued by the Straw Hats from Enies Lobby, it is then that she considers herself both their friend and an official member of the crew. After the timeskip, Robin's personality is much more relaxed and playful in nature (as evidenced by her common giggling), due to her exposure to the other Straw Hats.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: In a much more subtle way than it's normally handled in fiction. Though it doesn't portray itself through the freakish physicality of Luffy, Zoro or Sanji, it's implied that Robin has some variety of SuperStrength. She's not only capable of breaking the bones of people with explicitly superhuman capabilities in a way that requires a bit more of an explanation than 'leverage and superior skill,' though that certainly plays a part. She's also incredibly agile and is capable of carrying around Franky, who is more than seven feet tall and made almost entirely of metal, while both swinging around and flying. Proven even more when she [[spoiler:stops [[SuperSpeed Hakuba]] like it was nothing.]]
* TheChessmaster: How she handled Baroque Works. It's how she ''tried'' to handle her own capture by the Marines, but the rest of the Straw Hats destroyed her plans.
* ChildProdigy: At only eight years old, she aced an archaeology exam and was officially inducted as a scholar; Robin is also able to read the Poneglyphs.
* ChristmasCake: Although she usually shows no signs of age angst, when she is de-aged to 18 in the Z Film and wants to return to normal, Usopp jokes that she should be happy that everything is in the right place. She does not take his comment well.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: As part of her OffstageVillainy, she apparently betrayed a lot of organizations; prior to the Straw Hats (and it got pretty close), every other group she's been a part of has been destroyed. Something of an InformedFlaw, though: the only one she has actually been seen betraying was Crocodile when she lied about the text on the Poneglyph. Otherwise, her flashback shows that a lot of her groups betrayed ''her'', especially by trying to hand her in to the government so that they could claim the bounty on her head.
* CinderellaCircumstances: When Robin was a child, her aunt excluded her from family outings and forced her to do chores.
* CombatPragmatist: No one should ever expect a fair fight from her. She fights to win and does ''not'' care one bit how she does it.
* TheComicallySerious: To the point that even when the ''entire crew'' is [[WildTake open-mouthed and bulging their eyes at the sight in front of them]], even ''Zoro'', she retains her composure completely.
** Even she can't keep her composure when faced with the sheer naivete of the Tontatta.
** Somewhat subverted, as she does laugh and smile at her companions antics/jokes; it's more that she's deliberately playing the StraightMan and has incredible composure.
* TheConsigliere: To Crocodile; she apparently ran most of the day-to-day operations of Baroque Works.
* ContraltoOfDanger: One of the deepest female voices in the series goes to the woman whose M.O. leaves her opponents crippled.
* CoolBigSis: To Nami. Over the TimeSkip, she also seems to have become one to Koala, considering she views Robin as an older sister.
* CoolShades: Part of her post-timeskip attire. Usually wears it [[EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs over her head]], but she was recently seen wearing it during the fight in Fish-Man Island.
* CreepyGood: Robin is one of only two members of the Straw Hats to have killed in the past (she used to be an assassin and TheDragon to Crocodile). She is the only member who still uses her powers to kill (or at least severely injure), and frequently makes morbid comments about death. Her power to grow body parts from any surface also adds to her creep factor.

** Most of Enies Lobby is a RescueArc where the Straw Hats are fighting the [=CP9=] to save Robin. However, her status as a damsel in distress is justified by the fact that she willingly let herself get captured. She felt she had to die, so she surrendered to the World Government. Plus, although she was bound with Seastone by the time she regained the will to live, she still tried her best to escape, and the only reason she failed was because Spandam kept using Funkfreed to keep her in line. She started fighting back the moment she was freed from the Seastone.
** The second time was when Bartholomew Kuma blasted her to Tequila Wolf, where she was forced to work as a slave. But in this case, she was saved by Revolutionaries more or less instantly, while apparently in the process of her own escape attempt and might not have been bound with [[KryptoniteFactor Seastone]] anyway, making her status as "distressed" questionable at best.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Miniskirt, specifically. Though this was technically only seen in her introductory "cow girl" outfit, she's still been pulling off the effect anyway with short dresses ever since.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Initially abandoned by her parents and left to her abusive aunt and uncle until she learned to be a top archaeologist at age 8, her parents (along with all the other people of her land, Ohara) were then killed by the World Government for [[SheKnowsTooMuch learning too much about the "True History"]]. The fact that the Straw Hats expressed unconditional love and friendship towards her made her into a better, less treacherous person.
* DeadpanSnarker: Emphasis on deadpan, it's hard to tell when she's being serious or yanking somebody else's chain. Her sarcasm is more noticeably as Miss All Sunday.

Unlike with Nami (where it can be somewhat justified since girls ''do'' often have a growth spurt at around 18), there's no good excuse for Robin, who was 28 – long since grown up – when introduced. She must have been eating very well during those two years.
* FlowerMotifs: Her Devil Fruit allows her to sprout extra body parts like budding flowers, and many of her techniques are named after flowers. Her voice actor stated that she is represented by the casablanca, signifying her devotion to her crew and her restoration of innocence after they saved her.
* FriendlessBackground: A variant of it. Due to her introverted nature and having obtained her disturbing LovecraftianSuperpower at a young age, she was [[KidsAreCruel ridiculed as a child by other kids]] and could only make friends with adults - specifically, the Oharan archaeologists and Jaguar D. Saul. After they were all killed in the Buster Call, she had no close relationships with anyone for the next 20 years until she met the Straw Hats.
* FullNameBasis: Like Zoro, villains only ever call her by her full name.

* GulliverTieDown: When she goes to Green Bit, she's captured by the dwarves and tied to the floor with Leo's Devil Fruit in an obvious ShoutOut to Literature/GulliversTravels.
* HarmfulToMinors: Her childhood was not pleasant, but once the [=CP9=] came to Ohara, it ended up going downhill: She saw her mentor and one few decent people on the island who treated her kindly shot and mortally wounded, saw her mother beaten and blooded, the entirety of the island razed, a boat full of survivors blown up out of a senseless act of "justice" and her savior frozen solid. Not even getting to having to learn to survive on her own from such a young age and people constantly turning on her thanks to the bogus story the government fabricated about her. ** The first was during the climax of the Alabasta Arc, when the local Poneglyph didn't have the info she wanted and Crocodile [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness turned on her]]. See InterruptedSuicide below for details.
** Later, fearing that her friends would eventually betray her and throw her away, she decides to surrender to the World Government, on the condition that they leave the other Straw Hats alone. However, when the Straw Hats raid Enies Lobby to save her, and burn down the World Government's flag, essentially ''declaring war on the entire world'', Robin realizes that her friends will never betray her, and that she really wants to live.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Okay, so you can duplicate your body parts and make them sprout from anything you can see, I guess that's kind of cool, but how is that useful in a fight-OH MY GOD! WHAT HAPPENED TO [[NeckSnap THEIR NECK]]?

* HeroicSacrifice: Subverted by the Straw Hats equally heroic [[UnwantedRescue rescue mission]], [[FlashBack a heartbreaking flashback]], and subsequent heartwarming [[HesitantSacrifice I want to live!]] cry.
* HeroicWillpower: Though she doesn't have the insane resilience that Zoro and Luffy possess, when it comes to mental fortitude Robin has everybody beat. After having her shadow ripped out it took about 15 minutes, tops, for her to get back on her feet. To put this in perspective, the average person would be incapacitated for ''three days''. And in a {{Filler}} arc she was awake for multiple days (to prevent her memories from being stolen) and showed zero ill effects. This is justified as she has 20+ years of constant fear and paranoia; she didn't face constant violence, but the emotional strain was immense.
* HeyYou: One of Robin's main characteristics, and also one of the most overlooked due to how subtle it is. It's very rare for Robin to actually utter the name of someone she's talking to (or just referring to) in any dialogue; Robin's defense mechanism to protect her feelings pushes her into being as impersonal as possible to people she meets. However, once Robin found her place with the Straw Hats she started using their names, though so far Luffy is the only recurring character whom Robin will always call by name.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: One of the weaknesses of her Devil Fruit is that the limbs she creates still count, in a sense, as her real limbs. This makes her vulnerable to her enemies' Devil Fruit powers when she restrains them, as shown when [[spoiler:Ain [[FountainOfYouth transformed her into a teenager]] in ''Anime/OnePieceFilmZ'']] and when [[spoiler:Sugar transformed her into a toy]]. She also takes damage if the extra limbs are directly attacked, though this is seen less often as hitting limbs sprouted on someone else's body will hurt the victim too.
* IconicOutfit: A mild example with her Enies Lobby outfit (the leather dress and thigh-highs getup). She's generally a [[TheFashionista fashionista]] like Nami, but that particular ensemble is still showing up in merchandise and video games, ''10 years later.'' Like the other Straw Hats, her first TimeSkip outfit is already iconic now, appearing as her primary look in just about all the latest merchandise and depictions.

She is wounded, but considering her powers she could have easily escaped if she had wanted to. The UnwantedRescue comes in the form of Luffy, who tells her that she's better off living; she disagrees. He ignores her and drags her kicking and screaming out of the tomb. With time, and the PowerOfFriendship, this becomes a HappilyFailedSuicide. Indeed, her ire at being forced to live through that suicide attempt is why she joins the crew initially, her stated line of reasoning more or less being "I'm only alive because of you, so you have to take responsibility."
* KickTheSonOfABitch: If somebody loses to her, she's going to make a point of horribly maiming them and having them go out in a particularly undignified manner. Of course, the people who lose to her have almost always ''really'' asked for it. Just ask Spandam.
* KnightInSourArmor: A somewhat different take on the trope. Instead of falling from idealist to cynic, she had her cynicism from a pretty early age (being a renegade from the World Government since 8 does that to a person) and believed only in self-preservation and finding the True History. * NiceGirl: One of the more soft-spoken and polite Straw Hats, but like the rest of the crew it's a very bad idea to piss her off.
* NiceHat: As Miss All-Sunday, she always wore a white cowboy hat. She still occasionally does, or sometimes a purple one.

** Prior to Thriller Bark, Robin would rarely address her crewmates by name, ''any name''; she's very fond of HeyYou. When she did go by name, it was a simple nickname like Long-nose (Usopp), Swordsman (Zoro), Mister Cook (Sanji) and so on. The only crewmate she would always call by name is Luffy, the captain himself, and this was only once or twice she found her place with the Straw Hats; before that she addressed him as Straw Hat, like all his foes, or as Captain.
** Considering her past, this is probably her defense mechanism. Due to her bounty, everyone acted like a BitchInSheepsClothing to her, pretending to be nice only to stab her in the back later by revealing her position to the Marines (and sometimes being damn hypocritical in the process), so nicknaming everyone was a way to prevent her from getting attached to them. However, during the events in Enies Lobby, she realized that she has finally found her TrueCompanions, and starting in Thriller Bark stops using nicknames.

** In the (unseen) past, she was an assassin/criminal who survived the destruction of every group she was a part of by ruthless treachery, which in the PowerOfFriendship fueled world of One Piece, is a big deal. Of course, while people (usually the Marines) call her a horrible monster (her nickname is Demon Child, after all) you don't ever actually see her do anything evil. Notably, whenever it looks like she has killed someone, they turn out to be alive (Igaram, Pell, Tashigi). [[UnreliableNarrator That's the World Government's story anyway.]] (That's where the name "Demon Child" comes from.) Since we never see her do anything evil and she was targeted by the World Government for being able to read Poneglyphs, there's no telling whether or not she actually ever did anything evil or if she was simply able to survive their targeting of her while her associates didn't.
* OhCrap: Since she's TheStoic, she mostly doesn't overreact. When it happens, it's means things are getting serious. The most notable ones are when she notices the presence of [=CP0=] in Dressrosa or when she's caught by surprise when she sees that all of Orochi Oniwabasu have sneaked up right behind her.
* OutOfFocus: Zoro, Robin, Usopp, and Franky are all completely absent during the Whole Cake Island arc due to heading for Wano instead. This mirrors Nami, Chopper, Sanji, and Brook's absence during most of the Dressrosa Arc.
* PerkyGoth: She sort of has a taste for the macabre. To name a few examples, she suggested "Being of Darkness" as a name for the Thousand Sunny and called the Cerberus on Thriller Bark "cute".
* PetalPower: For some reason, pink flower petals appear whenever she uses her DF powers. This is explained from her Devil Fruit's name: Flower-Flower. The limbs sprout from the ground "like flowers". Don't think about that too closely, though.
* PirateGirl: She counts as one, having been either an outlaw, allied with pirates, or a pirate herself for most of her life, but it's [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. For one thing, she does ''not'' have the personality or look you would typically associate with a pirate-tess; which, of course, is generally the rule for most of her crew too, but Robin is easily the least rowdy and pirate-like of the Straw Hats. Secondly, she's obviously a bit too mature to be called a "girl"; so, all in all, the greedy and hotheaded Nami takes up the trope better.
* PragmaticHero: While Luffy will go on about the pride of being a pirate, Zoro will growl about a swordsman's honor, and Sanji waxes poetic on the PowerOfLove, Robin's main motivation is survival for herself and later her crewmates and in a loose, general sense, history and the preservation thereof. She's also the one most likely to get really simple solutions to puzzles that stump the crew.

* SquishyWizard: Robin is squishy compared to the freaks of nature that inhabitat the Grand Line. If you manage to get past her long range power you have a good chance at victory. As a result, once the enemy gets in position to give her direct blows, she's screwed.
* StatuesqueStunner: She's 6'2" tall, dwarfing all of the other Straw Hats except Franky and Brook, who keep in mind are themselves 7'5" and 8'8", respectively. This is not a very impressive height in the One Piece world (see the OurGiantsAreBigger trope for a full diagnostic on height variations in the One Piece world), but would be ''huge'' if she were a real life woman.
* TheStoic: Like Zoro, [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v46/c442/13.html she is much more reserved than most of the crew]], and unlike the others, has not had a single FaceFault (until the Dressrosa arc) – this is lampshaded in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yupWdP_c8EE one of the anime's ending themes]]. Perhaps not the same ending theme, but one involves shots of each of the crew looking normally, before switching over to a crazy expression, with two exceptions; Zoro, who simply falls asleep, and Robin, who goes from reading books to... reading more books.
* StrawNihilist: She used to expressee elements of this belief, after believing her life's work (discovering the True History) isn't going to happen she states that she "doesn't care if the world is destroyed". Though this is in the midst of her InterruptedSuicide. She also expresses some opinions on dreams and the futility of them that are rather similar to Crocodile's. Considering her past, this is {{Justified}}.

* ThisIsUnforgivable: After Yama [[BerserkButton destroys the ruins of Shandora]] with no respect or remorse and then begs for mercy, she says it's too late for apologies and proceeds to break his spine.
* TookALevelInBadass: Sure, her powers were pretty badass from the start, but she mastered them during the TimeSkip. After the two-year interim, she was able to create ''thousands'' of limbs, make them large enough to restrain whole ships, and create duplicates of her entire body. She's a better fighter after this too; if she can't break a foe's neck, she can now twist his torso 180 degrees. She's also used her power to create hundreds of limbs, combine them into two huge limbs, and bring them down on a large number of enemies, crushing them like bugs. (In short, if you thought messing with her before was dangerous, you certainly don't want to ''now''.)
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Her time with the Straw Hats has made her genuinely happy and gaining a desire to live.

Franky, real name Cutty Flam, is the crew's shipwright. Initially, he was the leader of the Franky Family, a gang of villainous dismantlers who provoked the Straw Hats' wrath by mugging Usopp and stealing most of their money. As his epithet implies, he is a cyborg known as ''BF-36'' ([[FunWithAcronyms BF = Battle Franky]]) due to being hit by a sea train and washing up on a scrap yard and using said scrap to modify his body to keep from dying. He later uses blueprints from the world's best scientist to upgrade himself to ''BF-37''.\\\

His past is tied to Nico Robin's, as while she can read the location of the superweapon Pluton, he actually owns the blueprints themselves, it having been passed down among the shipwrights of Water 7 for generations. However, most of the money went to a much better use, as Franky used it to buy some Adam wood which he used to build the Thousand Sunny.

** In a hilarious subversion of what normally would be expected of a giant mecha, it proved pretty useless in its first appearance, as the only attacks that actually hit the opponents were the ones used by Franky by momentarily coming out of the cockpit. ** [[DoubleSubversion Until Franky revealed]] that he has a scaled-down copy of the ''Thousand Sunny's'' Gaon Cannon, called the General Cannon, built into the thing. Nothing says surprise quite like getting hit by a compressed air stream that can blow up an entire ship.
* HyperspaceArsenal: How he fits everything inside his body is probably best left unanswered.
* IconicOutfit: Open, loud red Hawaiian shirt? Sharp black shades? Inappropriately small blue speedo? It could only be SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER Franky of course!
* ImmuneToBullets: Particularly important in the literal TakingTheBullet scene for Robin during the Enies Lobby arc. However, he's only immune in the front and not the back; after all, since he did all his modifications himself, he couldn't reach his back.

* KavorkaMan: Given his obscenely Frankenstein like appearance after the time skip, it was amazing he could charm Señor Pink's [[UnwantedHarem hired help]] the way he can.

* KickTheDog: In one scene Franky and a couple of enemy agents see each other at a distance, said agents decide they have no reason to attack an unknown bystander, on the other hand Franky just starts shooting them, it is never justified why he attacked them.
* ALadyOnEachArm: Used to be the case with the Square Sisters; Mozu and Kiwi back in his mafia days. Even two years later at the final stages of the Dressrosa Arc shows that he's still got it, having smitten some of Señor Pink's fanbase with his charm.

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: He was renamed by Iceberg who found his real name silly. Everyone has called him Franky ever since.
* OutOfFocus: Zoro, Robin, Usopp, and Franky are all completely absent during the Whole Cake Island arc due to heading for Wano instead. This mirrors Nami, Chopper, Sanji, and Brook's absence during most of the Dressrosa Arc.
* OutsideContextProblem: Franky when he was first introduced. The Straw Hats didn't know how to really fight him since he's a cyborg. They actually thought he was a Devil Fruit user. [=CP9=] had a better advantage since half of them lived in Water 7 for five years and personally knew him. Those who didn't know or understand Franky's abilities had a hard time countering him, especially since he's literally MadeOfIron.
* PowerPalms: Can shoot a burst of highly compressed and destructive [[BlowYouAway air]] from his palms.
* PowerSource: Cola it's his main source of power, though others drinks works too but gives him a different personality. In his pre-timeskip appearance, whenever he's out of energy, his hair droops.
* PoweredArmor: The "Franky Shogun" mecha-suit, which he also refers to as "Armored Me". Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper personally consider it the coolest thing ever, likening it to a HumongousMecha. Still, Franky is unhappy that the Marines apparently mistaked it for his real body, as his current Wanted poster features the suit rather than his real face.

* RocketPunch: With all of the homages to fighting robot series in his character, it's no surprise he can do this. Though, cleverly, his hand is attached to his forearm with a chain so it comes back after being fired. He can only perform this with his right arm.

* SceneryCensor: In episode 321 of the anime, his family snatches his speedo and takes it to the Straw Hats to get him to go with them, making him run through town bottomless. While the show has no problem showing his rear end, they occasionally use this to obscure the front.
* ScienceHero: Considering that everything is operated on ''cola,'' it's hard ''not'' to hit this trope.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: In the English dub he and Brook do this when Oars is about to throw a tower at them. In his defense though [[OhCrap that's probably an appropriate reaction to have in that situation]].
* SelfSurgery: On the verge of death after being run down by a train when he was 22 years old, Franky rebuilt himself using spare parts from an abandoned ship. As he was alone at the time, he was unable to modify his back, making it the only part of his body that is still flesh and blood.

* SuperStrength: Franky's great physical strength is one of the things he can boast of. So he's likely still high up there after his post-TimeSkip upgrade.

** His SuperDrowningSkills are partially balanced by his ability to dash across water because he's so light. He can also jump extraordinarily far and high. Yes, even becoming a skeleton who can't swim can be turned into an advantage in this series.
** Plus, he doesn't really suffer the same effect of internal damage as the rest of the crew. Stabbing him in the eye just chips his skull, stabbing in the ribs notches them, and a blow to the gut does nothing unless it hits his spine. All three happen within what is probably no more than thirty seconds in universe during his fight to retrieve his shadow.
** After the TimeSkip, he's learned how to remove his soul from his body. Both the [[PowerPerversionPotential women's baths]] and getting messages to people when he's locked up are now within his reach.
** The TimeSkip further reveals that there's an inexhaustible energy that allows his soul to continue living in the world. He can draw on the power of the soul to strike enemies with the ''freezing fire of the dead.'' His sword becomes coated in a blue flame that's freezing cold.
** His ability to directly attack and manipulate souls means he's the perfect counter to most (he still got caught) of [[spoiler:Big Mom's]] attack and is the [[spoiler:first person]] period, to injure [[spoiler:Zeus and Prometheus, homies]] that were animated [[spoiler:portions of her own soul]].

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Brook entered the Grand Line 50 years before as a musician after befriending the young whale Laboon and promising he would return for him at Reverse Mountain. His captain and half the crew then contracted an incurable disease and were forced to be abandoned. After taking over as captain, Brook and the remaining members of the crew were wiped out by an enemy with poisoned weapons after entering the Florian Triangle. Although he revived with the Revive-Revive Fruit, his ship's rudder was broken, so he was stuck in the same spot for over 50 years with no way to return to his friend as promised. He wasn't even revived instantly, and spent the first of those fifty years in soul form, wandering aimlessly until he found his body, which had already decayed into a skeleton by then. And as mentioned above, he spent the remaining 49 years alone, with nothing to eat or drink, and the bodies of his crew as his sole company. Even worse, for the last five of those fifty years, he was without a shadow thanks to it being stolen by Gecko Moriah, so he couldn't leave the Florian Triangle even if he was able to.

* ElementalRockPaperScissors: His power of the soul makes him immune to abilities that can affect the souls of others, [[spoiler:much like Luffy Vs. Eneru,]] this lets Brook stand against [[spoiler:Big Mom]] despite her threat level being ''way'' above him, as he's the perfect counter to her life manipulating abilities.
* ExpressiveSkull: Brook can emote with his eye sockets, shifting from a neutral to a battle ready angry expression frequently. He can also [[TearsFromAStone cry]] and receive [[CranialEruption lumps]] when hit on the head.
* FightsLikeANormal: He relied on his swordsmanship due to not being able to utilize his Devil Fruit for combat. After the TimeSkip however, this is no longer the case.
* FamedInStory: He becomes a ridiculously famous musician during the TimeSkip.
* FragileSpeedster: Fast enough to rival the Monster Trio in speed[[note]]Ex: In the canonical ''Anime/OnePieceFilmStrongWorld'', Brook individually slices millions of ants within milliseconds of each other so quickly that the ants [[YouAreAlreadyDead don't realize they've been cut until his traditional three steps afterward. He did it again to a moth later in the film]].l[[/note]], but his body is not the toughest thing around.

* FunnyAfro: That somehow survived even after he died. Luffy finds it to be an endless source of humor. Though on a more serious note, Brook's afro is very important to him since he fears that Laboon won't recognize him without it. Also, because of his "condition", it won't grow back if it's cut.
* GallowsHumor: Has a tendency to make 'Skull Jokes' which involve him making a comment, then realizing it wouldn't make sense as he's dead. Definitely more literal than most cases.

* GoodScarsEvilScars: Brook's old head wound is, pre-skeleton, a bit more messy-looking and disfiguring than the usual Good Guy scar. This may well fall into "[[RuggedScar hard life]]" or "EveryScarHasAStory" territory, though at the moment all we know is he was formerly part of a kingdom's military.
* HeroesPreferSwords: He, along with the other Straw Hat Pirates, borders on anti-heroic. At one point being the captain of the guards in his home country, Brook is well versed in swordplay. Despite his usual goofy personality in battle, he is extremely capable and can do more than hold his own. His fighting style resembles a combination of classical fencing and iaidō.

Despite [=WCI=]'s security being strongest in the Treasure Room and Brook being captured by Big Mom herself, he ended up succeeding in obtaining the imprints of the Poneglyphs and stashed them in his skull.

The last of the Seven Warlords to be formally introduced, and the 10th member and helmsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. Jimbei is a whale-shark [[FishPeople Fish-man]] and the former captain of the Pirates of the Sun after the death of Fisher Tiger. His becoming a Warlord eight years before the events of the main story saw the crew split up, with one faction headed by Arlong. He is also the series' most skilled practitioner of ''Fish-Man Karate''.\\\

He claims to be indebted to Whitebeard, since thanks to Whitebeard's declaration of putting Fish-Man Island under his protection, the island was spared from the marauding slavers that often kidnapped Fishmen and Merfolk for sale in the slave trade. He also has a grudging respect for Portgas D. Ace, having apparently fought him some time in the past. Possibly as a result of this, Jimbei doesn't seem to hold humans in such low regard, or at least isn't as open about it, rather presenting himself as someone who wishes to keep events at a relatively peaceful equilibrium.\\\

Luffy asked him to join his crew when meeting him on Fish-Man Island, having become gotten close to him during the ordeal there, and as well as during their escape from Impel Down, as well as the subsequent the Marineford War. However, Jimbei turned him down for the time being, stating that he had some unfinished business to attend to. That business was severing his ties with the Big Mom Pirates, which he does do, and later meets up with Luffy and company in the midst of doing so, helping to arrange the necessary players to crash Charlotte Linlin's tea party so they could rescue Sanji from harm. He left his captaincy of the Sun Pirates to Aladdin and Praline, with the intention of fully joining up with Luffy at the end of this situation. He does indeed join the crew as their official Helmsman, but as Big Mom and her crew bear down on them, he stays behind to help Aladdin and the Sun Pirates escape, with Luffy commanding him, as his captain, to survive and rendezvous with them in Wano Country. He is thus the first and so far only person to officially join the crew as one of its core members (Grand Fleet notwithstanding) after the time-skip.\\\

* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: When Hatchan accidentally reveals himself as a Fishman when trying to help save Camie from being sold as a slave, the audience starts to throw objects at poor Hatchan, to which Nami states the crowds' reason behind doing so is because they despise all Fishmen. Upon hearing this Chopper's only response is to ask why since undersea dwellers like Hatchan and Camie are not any different from people. Chopper just cannot understand the mindset of the racist aristocrats and does not want to.

* CoolShades: Part of her post-timeskip attire. Usually wears it [[EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs over her head]], but she was recently seen wearing it during the fight in Fishman Island.

* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Robin specializes in submission locks and her most common form of attack is taking down an enemy from a distance in this manner using her powers. After the TimeSkip, she even takes it up a notch and one of her moves involves making a [[DoppelgangerAttack clone]] of herself to take down the legs in a submission hold while she herself performs a diving-neck snap. [[MusclesAreMeaningless On a Fishman twice her size]]. A Fishman who, like all Fishmen, is said to naturally be 10 times stronger than the average human. [[PrecisionFStrike Damn]].

* {{Foil}}: His past in relation to Nami's. Both grew up adopted with a sibling, with both children and the parent all the same gender. While Nami's adoptive parent was a former Marine killed by a Fishman, Franky's adoptive parent was a Fishman killed by the Government to which the Marines are associated.

* TookALevelInBadass: Possibly has the most new abilities of all the Straw Hats after the time skip. During the battle on Fishman Island dedicated to showing off these new abilities, despite being one of the (relatively) weaker crew members he gets paired to fight with the New Fishman pirates' second in command, and defeats him effortlessly too. His most recent badass moment is fighting Big Mom... one of the Four Emperors, even though he didn't win, he still injured one of her special homies... something no one else has ever done before.

The last of the Seven Warlords to be formally introduced, and the 10th member and helmsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. Jimbei is a whale-shark [[FishPeople Fishman]] and the former captain of the Pirates of the Sun after the death of Fisher Tiger. His becoming a Warlord eight years before the events of the main story saw the crew split up, with one faction headed by Arlong. He is also the series' most skilled practitioner of ''Fishman Karate''.\\\

He claims to be indebted to Whitebeard, since thanks to Whitebeard's declaration of putting Fishman Island under his protection, the island was spared from the marauding slavers that often kidnapped Fishmen and Merfolk for sale in the slave trade. He also has a grudging respect for Portgas D. Ace, having apparently fought him some time in the past. Possibly as a result of this, Jimbei doesn't seem to hold humans in such low regard, or at least isn't as open about it, rather presenting himself as someone who wishes to keep events at a relatively peaceful equilibrium.\\\

Luffy asked him to join his crew when meeting him on Fishman Island, having become gotten close to him during the ordeal there, and as well as during their escape from Impel Down, as well as the subsequent the Marineford War. However, Jimbei turned him down for the time being, stating that he had some unfinished business to attend to. That business was severing his ties with the Big Mom Pirates, which he does do, and later meets up with Luffy and company in the midst of doing so, helping to arrange the necessary players to crash Charlotte Linlin's tea party so they could rescue Sanji from harm. He left his captaincy of the Sun Pirates to Aladdin and Praline, with the intention of fully joining up with Luffy at the end of this situation. He does indeed join the crew as their official Helmsman, but as Big Mom and her crew bear down on them, he stays behind to help Aladdin and the Sun Pirates escape, with Luffy commanding him, as his captain, to survive and rendezvous with them in Wano Country. He is thus the first and so far only person to officially join the crew as one of its core members (Grand Fleet notwithstanding) after the time-skip.\\\

** At one point during the breakout at Impel Down, he's fighting to take over a Marine battleship alongside Crocodile and Mr 1. He tries to support them with his Fishman Karate, only to wreck the ship instead.

He claims to be indebted to Whitebeard, as because of that man's declaration Fishman Island was spared from the marauding slavers that often kidnapped Fishmen and Merfolk for sale in the slave trade. He also has a grudging respect for Portgas D. Ace, having apparently fought him some time in the past. Possibly as a result of this, Jimbei doesn't seem to hold humans in such low regard, or at least isn't as open about it, rather presenting himself as someone who wishes to keep events at a relatively peaceful equilibrium.\\\

Luffy asked him to join his crew when meeting him on Fishman Island, having become close to him during the ordeal there and during the Marineford War. However, Jimbei turned him down for the time being, stating there was some business he needed to do first. That business was severing his ties to the Big Mom Pirates, and later met up with Luffy and company in the midst of doing so, helping to arrange the necessary players to crash Charlotte Linlin's tea party so they could rescue Sanji from harm. He left his captaincy of the Sun Pirates to Aladdin and Praline with the intention of fully joining up with Luffy at the end of this situation. He does indeed join the crew as their official Helmsman, but as Big Mom and her crew bear down on them, he stays behind to help Aladdin and the Sun Pirates escape, with Luffy commanding him, as his captain, to survive and rendezvous with them in Wano Country. He is thus the first and so far only person to officially join the crew as one of its core members (Grand Fleet notwithstanding) after the time-skip.\\\
