!Kingdom of Brune

Tigre's home country.

[[folder:Alsace]]

!!Tigrevurmud Vorn
->Voiced by: Creator/KaitoIshikawa (Japanese), Creator/JoelMcDonald (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/01_tigre_3876.jpg

The protagonist of ''Madan no Ou to Vanadis''. Tigre is the earl of Alsace, a tiny idyllic earldom on the Zhcted border, far from court intrigues or wealthy commercial region. And Tigre likes it that way. With few responsibilities, Tigre is free to pursue his love of hunting and sleeping in late... until the border levies are summoned.

After his army's defeat by Zhcted's Vanadis Eleonora Viltaria, Tigre becomes her first ever prisoner of war after impressing her. He refuses her every attempt at recruitment, until Duke Thenardier launches an attack on Alsace as the opening move in Brune's civil war. To defend his home, Tigre ''hires'' Elen and her army as mercenaries, and soundly defeats Thenardier. Together with other petty nobles, Tigre forms the Silver Meteor Army, which he leads to victory over both other factions of the civil war, as well as an invading army. During the course of the war Tigre develops into an excellent general, wins the admiration of enemies and allies alike, discovers Brune's secret heir, kills several dragons, fights off a demon, and discovers his AncestralWeapon has a secret destructive power linked to the goddess of death.

On the return home from Asvarre, Tigre ends up lost-at-sea during a fight with Torbalan, but is found by the Vanadis, Liza; having lost his memories, and becomes her servant.
-----
* AccidentalPervert: Tigre's hands seem to be magnets for [[ThanksForTheMammary women's chests]].
* AmnesiacDissonance: This happens to Tigre during [[spoiler:Volumes 8 to 10]] as he lives in [[spoiler:Lebus]] as the youth Urz under [[spoiler:Elizavetta's]] service. He grows to care for her and his life in [[spoiler:Lebus]], and even as his memories as Tigre begin to resurface he remains uncertain if he wants to regain his old identity.
* AmnesiacHero: [[spoiler: Tigre after the events in Volume 7 until the conclusion of Volume 10.]]
* AncestralWeapon: The black bow of the Vorn family which is currently in Tigre's possession.
* TheArcher: Tigre's a preternaturally skilled marksman. Maybe too much so, he's hopeless with melee weapons.
* ArrowCatch: Tigre ''nonchalantly'' catches an arrow aimed at Teita's head then [[{{CatchAndReturn}} fires it back.]] Still hurts him though.
* BerserkButton: Threatening Titta or Alsace. Later expands to seeing soldiers engage in any form of injustice.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He’s one of the friendliest people and a respected lord in Alsace. But if you push him far enough (like killing slaves, innocent children, or harm his homeland), he will be prepared to shoot an arrow right through your head.
* BigDamnHeroes: Tigre pulls this trope off almost OnceAnEpisode:
** In Volume 1, he arrives at Alsace in time to stop Zion’s AttemptedRape on Titta and his invasion of Alsace.
** In Volume 2, he saves Mila from the last Serrash assassin during Elen’s battle in Olmutz.
** In Volume 3, he helps stop Roland from killing Elen and Sofy.
* TheBigDamnKiss: [[spoiler:With Elen towards the end of Volume 13.]]
* BiggerIsBetterInBed: Implied, as a gag.
* CallForward: During his spying on Mila in Volume 2, he takes on his father’s name Urs. [[spoiler:He uses this name when he temporarily loses his memory six volumes later]].
* ChickMagnet: Tigre, however the romance aspect of the series isn't brought up as much as the focus of the series is more on the wars than any ShipTease.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Titta and Regin.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Regin. They met during their excursions outside their homes when they were young.
* CripplingOverspecialization: While his use of the bow is legendary, if anyone or anything gets into melee range, he's completely helpless. Sure, he can use a hunting knife, but only on something he's already killed.
* TheDragonslayer: In the past, Tigre killed an Earth Dragon with just a bow. Manages to down a couple during the Brune civil war as well.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: The black bow can fire arrows that can pierce through anything: armor, city gates, magic resistance, dragons, entire cities... However, the technique exhausts Tigre. A predecessor who used the bow to destroy a city ended up ''dying'' because he used his life to fire the shot.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: ''Every shot he makes'' hits, he's so good. The black bow adds explosions to those hits.
* {{Expy}}: [[WordOfGod Tsukasa Kawaguchi]] incorporated elements of the mythical archers Myth/RobinHood and Nasu no Yoichi when creating the character.
* ForegoneConclusion: Tigre having relationships with all of the war maidens was a given, since this is what the story revolves around.
* FourStarBadass: He is a Brunish count and an army commander. It was Tigre who led the Silver Meteor Army against Ganelon and Thenardier and later, [[spoiler:the Moonlight Knights against Melisande, Greast and Kureys]].
* GoodIsNotSoft: Tigre is an unstoppable force in combat.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: [[InvertedTrope Nope.]] Tigre, fights exclusively with a bow, and the Vanadis fight exclusively with their array of close combat weapons.
* HappinessInSlavery: Well, prisoner of war, but Tigre does enjoy considerable perks as Elen's prisoner.
* HeavySleeper: So much so. This combined with his ThanksForTheMammaries tendencies is mainly responsible for his AccidentalPervert status.
%% * TheHero
* HeroesPreferSwords: [[AvertedTrope Nope]]. Tigre exclusively uses a bow in battle, and has no skill with other weapons.
* HeroicBSOD: In the series, Tigre has two of these, both of which border on DespairEventHorizon.
** Tigre goes through a brief one in Volume 5, mourning the loss of his surrogate father. Elen helps him get over it before the FinalBattle with Thenardier.
** In Volume 13, Tigre gets hit with this ‘’again’’ when [[spoiler:he feels that he was unable to save Elen from being captured by Greast. He goes off alone to rescue Elen, but Mila helps him snap out of it]].
* HorseArcher: Despite being a commander of the Silver Meteor Army, he's often on horseback and fighting with his bow.
* HumbleHero: Despite all his accomplishments, he'd rather live peacefully in Alsace. King Victor calls him out by observing that people looking at his accomplishments are more likely to assume he's playing up the humility as a PR move.
* IGaveMyWord: At the end of Volume 2, he kills the last Serrash assassin attempting to kill Ludmila as thanks for the tea.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Tigre ''will'' hit his target, no matter what. Even if he's using a flimsy bow he's only ever shot twice before.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: Tigre having amnesia throughout volumes 8 through 10.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Titta, despite Titta wanting more.
* LongRangeFighter: Due to only using a bow to fight.
* ItsPersonal: Tigre and Duke Thenardier's duel. Tigre's out to avenge Alsace and the killing of Bertrand, while Duke Thenardier wants revenge for his son and his closest aide.
* MageMarksman: With the Black Bow, sometimes with help from a Dragonic Tool.
* MeaningfulName: Vorn, his last name, means “front” in German. Tigre is Spanish, Italian ‘’and’’ French for “tiger.”
* MistressAndServantBoy: Basically the servant to Elen's mistress. He then later becomes this to Liza as well.
* MyGreatestFailure:
** In Volume 5, he is unable to save Bertrand from being killed by Thenardier and temporarily suffers a HeroicBSOD.
** In Volume 13, his failure to prevent Elen’s capture by Greast leads to him attempting to rescue her on his own. Luckily for him, Mila snaps him out of his funk and joins him]].
* NiceGuy: Tigre's benevolence and generosity is the reason for his popularity with his people.
* OceanAwe: Tigre never seems much interested in seeing the ocean before Volume 6 and is struck speechless for a half hour after.
* OddFriendship: Minor rural lords do not befriend seven of the most powerful women in the world.
** Quite a few of his friendships are quite odd, particularly Ryurik and Damad. The latter even was specifically ordered to kill Tigre.
* OutdoorBathPeeping: How Tigre first met Sophia. It was an accident. So was catching Tina naked.
* [[OutsideContextVillain Outside Context Hero]]: Not only does Tigre's superlative archery skills allow him to make impossible shots, he also hails from a country known for its contempt of the bow as a weapon. Thus he blindsides a lot of enemies and manages to kill a lot of commanders by sniping them from what they believe to be a safe distance.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Tigre kills Zion in Volume 1 for invading Alsace and he later does the same to Kasim in Volume 4 for killing innocent slaves.
%% * RedHeadedHero
%% ** RedIsHeroic
* ShowyInvincibleHero: For the vast majority of the story, the entertainment value wasn't about ''if'' he'll win the battle, but in ''how.'' Then [[spoiler:the end of Volume 12 came along]].
* SleepCute: Many of the female characters find his sleeping face cute.
* SoleSurvivor: In Volume 1, Tigre appears to be the only survivor to survive Elen’s assault on Dinant; most of his allies are dead and/or have escaped, and Tigre himself was PlayingPossum after he was knocked down.
* SpannerInTheWorks: He has repeatedly put a wrench in villains’ plans and helped others in their darkest hours just from the fact that the villains underestimate his skills and prowess in battle.
* StormingTheCastle: He and Elen led the assault on the Tatra Mountains in Volume 2.
* ThanksForTheMammaries: Tigre's modus operandi of {{accidental pervert}}hood.
* UnwantedHarem: While he remains mostly oblivious to the fact, he's developed quite a circle around himself with Elen, Titta, Mila, Sophie, Liza, Olga, Lim and Regin, all showing interest, and it just keeps growing as even [[TokenEvilTeammate Tina]] is starting to show sincere interest in volume 11.
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard not to give away that Tigre [[spoiler:ends up with amnesia]] since it's the basis of almost three entire light novels.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: The question on the lips of many people after Elen takes him prisoner (since she just kills people rather than bother) and goes to war for him. [[spoiler:The answer is that he's the first male to match her in any of the arts of war since she became a Vanadis.]]
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Tigre's only real skill is archery. He solves a surprising number of problems by shooting something.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Elen. To a lesser extent with his other {{love interest}}s.[[spoiler: they do at volume 13]]

!!Titta
->Voiced by: Creator/SumireUesaka (Japanese), Creator/TiaBallard (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/09_titta_5550.jpg
[[quoteright:300:[[labelnote:CLICK FOR SPOILER PICTURE]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/titta_possesed_125.png]][[/labelnote]]
[[caption-width-right:300:Possessed by Tir na Va]]

The housemaid of the Vorn manor, and Tigre's childhood friend. Two years younger than Tigre, Titta is the daughter of a priestly family who took up service with the Vorns first as an escape from her priestly duties and later because she was crushing on Tigre. Titta spends the first volume awaiting Tigre's return to Alsace, and later follows him to war, and thereafter to Zchted.

[[spoiler: Her ancestors served the Goddess of Death, who has a keen interest in Tigre and therefore needs a vessel. At several points in the story the goddess has possessed Titta either to speak with Tigre or send him aid.]]
----
* ACupAngst: Titta is moderately or even generously endowed for her age DependingOnTheArtist, but the weight class of the competition gets her down sometimes.
* AttemptedRape: Towards the end of Volume 1, Zion attempts to do this to her during his invasion of Alsace. Fortunately, [[BigDamnHeroes Tigre and Elen]] stop Zion before he could have his way with her.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Titta gets a little bit... ''strange'' sometimes. Namely when she's playing host to the local death god.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to Elen's Veronica.
* TheCaretaker: As Tigre's maid.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Whenever Tigre is around other girls, Titta ends up taking Tigre away from them
* ChildhoodFriends: With Tigre.
** ChildhoodFriendRomance: Averted for now, while Titta clearly wants something more, Tigre only sees Titta as his little sister.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Titta found out that Tigre became a prisoner of war, she's much more worried more about Tigre being forced to marry to someone then getting sold off as a slave.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: She has matching brown hair and brown eyes.
* DefiantToTheEnd: When Zion infiltrates Tigre’s mansion, Titta attempts to scare him off. Unfortunately for her, it doesn’t work.
* GirlishPigtails: She wears twin pigtails in her usual outfit, although during some of the second arc, she turns it into a single pigtail.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Titta’s eyes glow a bright red when Tir na Va possesses her body.
* {{Maid}} / {{Meido}}: Titta became a maid to stay near Tigre's side.
* MeaningfulName: “Titta” is Swedish for “to look.”
* OhCrap:
** In volume 1, Titta gets this [[RuleOfThree three times]]: when Zion’s troops invade Alsace, when Zion enters her house, and when she is about to be raped.
** She does this again when Tigre shoots her in Volume 3, freeing Tir na Va from her control.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When she is possessed by Tir na Va, her eyes turn red.
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Tigre. She stays in a town being raided by rapacious soldiers for him, joins an army to be near him, goes haring across a foreign country during the heart of winter to look for him...

!!Bertrand
->Voiced by: Creator/TakayukiSugo (Japanese), Mark Stoddard (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/11_bertran_6266.jpg

An old friend of Tigre's late father who, similar to Titta, promised that he would look after his son.

After Tigre initiates his campaign to rebel against Thenardier, Bertrand joins the Silver Meteor Army to command its Brune recruits.
----
* BadassGrandpa: His age hasn’t slowed him down.
* BaldOfAwesome: He is half-bald.
* CharacterDeath: He dies in Volume 5 shortly after taking a fatal blow to the chest that was aimed for Tigre.
* HeroicSacrifice: He dies trying to save Tigre from Steid.
* TheLeader: Acting as such for the Brune soldiers in the Silver Meteor Army.
* MentorOccupationalHazard: In Volume 5, he saves Tigre from certain death, but at the cost of his own life.
* ParentalSubstitute: For Tigre and Titta.

!!Urs Vorn
->Voiced by: Creator/JurotaKosugi (Japanese), Creator/KentWilliams (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/19_urz_3726.jpg

Tigre's late father, and the previous owner of the Vorn estate in Alsace.

Urs is often mentioned amongst his living friends such as Bertran and Marthus as a means to help Tigre grow into a person as strong as his father was. Tigre also shows his deep connection with his father by using his name as a replacement when he came across Mila during the assault on her castle, and when Tigre ended up with amnesia; Urs being the only name he could remember.
----
* PassingTheTorch: From Urs to Tigre when it comes to safeguarding Alsace.
* PosthumousCharacter: Died long before the story started, but his character is brought up several times as a means to help develop Tigre into a man as great as he once was, and to show that Tigre once had a great connection with him.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Territoire]]

!!Hughes Augre
->Voiced by: Creator/HiroshiIto (Japanese), Charlie Campbell (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/21_huguesaugre_8062.jpg

The Viscount of Territoire.

Huges is one of the many territory leaders Tigre comes before seeking aid to further his rebellion against Thenardier and Ganelon. Augre agrees to lend aid, including the services of his son, on the terms that Tigre clears out a group of bandits that have been hounding his territory for weeks.
----
* NiceGuy: Decides to help Tigre in his time of need.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Compared to every other noble Tigre came up to, Hughes actually agreed to help him as long as Tigre did something for him in return. Hughes ''did'' follow through on the deal.

!!Gerard Augre
->Voiced by: Creator/TomoakiMaeno (Japanese), Creator/IanSinclair (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6d38599f350fcd7f872b102e71321cf8.jpg

Hughes' son who joins the Silver Meteor Army, and becomes one of Tigre's closest friends; fighting alongside each other on several occasions.

After Elen and Lim are forced to return to Zhcted to end an inner war, Gerard becomes Tigre's second in-command next to Ryurik, taking Lim's role as the person who forms the strategies for the army to follow.
----
* MeaningfulName: Gerard is an old Germanic word derived from the words “spear” and “brave.” Gerard is a brave person who would often use weapons in battle.
* TheStrategist: Becomes this for the Silver Meteor Army after Lim had to temporarily leave the Brune Kingdom with Elen.
* TrueCompanions: With Tigre and Ryurik when they became the leaders of the Silver Meteor Army in Elen's absence during the Brune civil war.

!!Donalbein

The leader of the bandits that have been giving the people of Territoire a rough time.
----
* CharacterDeath: Tigre kills him so that he can complete a deal with Hughes to gain his soldiers.
* TheLeader: Of Territoire's bandits.
* PragmaticAdaptation: While the battle against him took an entire chapter in the second light novel, the manga completely skips over him with only a brief mention of the aftermath and the anime adapts it out entirely.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Knights of Navarre]]

!!Roland
->Voiced by: Creator/HirokiTochi (Japanese), Creator/VicMignogna (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/22_roland_2316.jpg

The leader of the Knights of Navarre; a group of elite soldiers who safeguard the western border of Brune from attacks by the neighboring kingdom of Sachstein.

Roland is ordered by Duke Thenardier to put down a rebellion that has risen in eastern Brune. Wielding the mighty sword, Durandal, Roland takes his entire Navarre force west to put an end to Tigre and Elen's Silver Meteor Army.
----
* ArcVillain: He serves as this for Volume 3.
* BlackKnight: His nickname in battle, given that he wears black armor and has black hair and is an all-around badass.
* CharacterDeath: Ganelon traps him in a room to be stung to death by bees at the end of Volume 3 for his failure to kill Tigre]].
* DarthVaderClone: He wears black armor, has black hair, wears a cape, is a {{Badass}}, has a booming voice, is a respected knight, as well as an unstoppable fighter and a PunchClockVillain to boot.
* TheDreaded: The very mention of his name instills people with fear; even after his death.
* TheDragon: Thenardier’s second one in the first arc.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: When he is defeated by Tigre at the end of Volume 3, Roland decides to plead his cause to King Faron. However, Ganelon ends up trapping him in a room containing bees and Roland gets stung to death.
* TheLeader: Of the Order of Navarre [[spoiler:until his death at the beginning of Volume 4]].
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Being called the “Black Knight” discourages anyone to pick fights with him.
* RedBaron: The “Black Knight”. He lives up to this name.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: After realizing Tigre’s true intentions at the end of Volume 3, he doesn’t stay alive for long]].
* YouHaveFailedMe: Gets killed by Ganelon after failing to kill Tigre.

!!Olivier
->Voiced by: Yasuaki Takumi (Japanese), Creator/BrycePapenbrook (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/27_oliver_1907.jpg

Roland's much more narrow-minded second in command.
----
* TheLeader: [[spoiler:Becomes the new leader of the Knights of Navarre after Roland's death.]]
* NumberTwo: To Roland.
* UndyingLoyalty. To Roland [[spoiler:and Princess Regin]].
* YouAreInCommandNow: [[spoiler:He takes Roland's place as the leader of the Knights of Navarre at the end of Volume 3]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Brune Nobility]]

!!King Faron Soleil Rauy Blainville de Charles
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Japanese), Creator/JasonDouglas (English)

The king of Brune.

The death of Faron's son at the Battle of Dinant took a huge toll on his sanity; reducing his mind to that of a sick, 5-year-old, child. As a result, he stays locked in his throne room, and stays out of the political affairs going on outside. To which Thenardier and Ganelon claim themselves as "temporary" leaders of Brune.
----
* BigGood: He is this for the first arc until Regin takes over towards the end of Volume 5.
* CharacterDeath: He dies near the end of Volume 5. It is implied heavily that someone, Ganelon being the most logical guess, had been slowly poisoning him to death over the course of the story.
* DespairEventHorizon: The death of his only child caused him to retreat into seclusion. At least, that's the story...
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Faron being unable to stop Ganelon or Thenardier from gaining power due to his poisoning, as well as indirectly allowing Zhcted to attack Brune when he summoned 25,000 troops at the Dinant Plains, kind of resembles what the British Prime Minister UsefulNotes/NevilleChamberlain did when UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler rose to power in Germany before UsefulNotes/WorldWarII.
* TheGoodKing: He serves as the wise King of Brune for most of the first arc [[spoiler:until his death in volume 5]].
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He has blonde hair and is a very personable king.
* HeadInTheSandManagement: Due to Ganelon’s poisoning, he is unable to stop Ganelon and Thenardier’s power struggles in Brune.
* HeroicBSOD: All he can do is isolate himself in his bedroom when his heir seemingly dies at Dinant.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Despite his role as King of Brune, Faron only appears in the first and fifth volumes.
* MeaningfulName: Faron means a “good-looking servant” in Old English and Soleil means sun in French.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His sickness at the hands of Ganelon allowed the dispute between Ganelon and Thenardier to go virtually unchecked and Zhcted declaring war on Brune.
* OlderThanTheyLook: When he meets Tigre and company, he is described to be old and wrinkly despite his youth.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He tries to help with serious situations, such as when he dispatches Regnas, Tigre and his allies to fight Zhcted in the Dinant Plains, but it does little good in deescalating the dispute between Ganelon and Thenardier.
* TamperingWithFoodAndDrink: Ganelon's been poisoning him, possibly for years. That's the real reason he's disappeared from public view.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: He dies after the Brune civil war. For a monarch who suffered the trauma of losing his only heir to Ganelon’s poisoning, he was a kind-hearted man who ruled Brune with justice.

!!Queen Regin Estelle Loire Bastien de Charles
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25_regin_4588.jpg
[[quoteright:300:[[labelnote:CLICK FOR SPOILER PICTURE]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25_regin2_3969.jpg]][[/labelnote]]

[[quoteleft:300:[[labelnote:AS PRINCE REGNAS]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/24_princeregnas_8280.jpg]][[/labelnote]]

The daughter of King Faron of Brune who took on the name Regnas and posed as a boy for her mother’s sake because of the scorn she might receive if the heir was a girl.

Forced to escape a group of assassins during Elen’s assault in the Dinant Plains, Regnas goes into exile in Agnes under her true name. During Brune's Civil War, she is eventually discovered by Tigre in Agnes during Muozinel’s invasion. After Thenardier's death and the end of Brune's civil war, she returns to Brune and becomes Queen following her father's death.

----
* AchillesInHisTent: After being attacked by assassins sent by Thenardier at the Dinant Plains, Regin exiles herself to Agnes, leaving Thenardier and Ganelon to their own plans.
* TheAloner: With Jessica’s death, Regin has become a loner in Agnes.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Regin was really the prince Regnas who pretended to be a male to get the throne.
* BigGood: She is the Queen of Brune following the death of her father Faron after Brune’s civil war is finished.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Tigre. They met during their excursions outside their homes.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Regin was Tigre's childhood friend and fell in love with him after he hunted a bird for her.
* FakingTheDead: In the first arc of the story after her escape at the Dinant Plains.
* TheHermit: After fleeing from the Dinant Plains, she spent much of the first arc away from being involved in wars. Upon Jessica’s death, Regin completely isolated herself in order to avoid being pursued by Thenardier’s forces.
* TheHighQueen: At the end of Volume 5, following Faron’s death, she becomes next in line as the first queen of Brune.
* InTheHood: She wears a hood during her exile after her escape from the Dinant Plains.
* LastOfHerKind: In Volume 5, Faron dies due to the poison, leaving Regin, and ironically, Melisande Thenardier, as remaining survivors of the nobility. [[spoiler:After Volume 12, Melisande is dead, which means that Regin is the sole survivor of the House of Charles.]]
* MeaningfulName: Regin is named after Reginn, the dwarf smith of Norse mythology. It also means “ruler’s advisor” in Latin. Estelle is French for star, Loire is named after a river in France and Bastien is the French variant for Sebastien, a male name. Fittingly enough, her male name, Regnas, is Latin for “reign”.
* PassingTheTorch: She becomes Queen of Brune following her father’s death at the end of Volume 5.
* RequisiteRoyalRegalia: Since becoming Queen, she wears a variety of royal outfits.
* RightfulQueenReturns: Faron is poisoned by Ganelon, and Regnas is sent out to fight Zhcted. The prince [[FakingTheDead fakes his death]] and goes incognito after Brune’s defeat at the Dinant Plains. In Volume 4, the prince is discovered to be a girl named Regin in Volume 4. After Thenardier’s defeat, Regin returns to Brune, where Faron acknowledges that Regin is his heir. After the king’s death, Regin assumes the throne.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She is a royal monarch who gets involved in important matters.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: In Volume 12, Badowin reminds her to seek an alternative way of announcing of Melisande’s death out of fear of some of the public not accepting it, but Regin decides to go along with announcing Melisande’s death and the truth behind the uprising.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When Regin (as Regnas) was attacked by Thenardier’s assassins at the Dinant Plains in Volume 1, she decides to bail as fast as she can and [[FakingTheDead fake her death]].
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: In volume 4, Regin reveals that she was really the prince named Regin all this time due to females being unable to claim the throne.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Her FakingTheDead in the Dinant Plains helps plant the seeds for Brune’s civil war. It’s not entirely her fault, however; if she had revealed her true identity, things may have turned out different and Thenardier and Ganelon would have gone on with their plans.
* WalkingSpoiler: As you can see, it's just hard to discuss her without mentioning a huge twist occurring in Volume 4.

!!Duke Felix Aaron Thenardier
->Voiced by: Dai Matsumoto (Japanese), Creator/RBruceElliott (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/16_felixaaronthenardier_6447.jpg

One of Brune's two strongest ministers vying for the throne, and follows the belief that only the strongest can survive; controlling an army built around sheer destructive power.

Felix orders for the burning of Alsace due to Tigre being taken prisoner; finding that the territory is now a stain on Brune's reputation. However, the failed invasion, which also resulted in the death of his son, took its toll on Felix; destroying the little humanity he had remaining, and swearing to kill Tigre and his rebel followers out of revenge.
----
* BigBadDuumvirate: He is this with Ganelon for most of the first arc. They fight each other for the throne when King Faron contracts an illness and Thenardier organizes an assault on Alsace after Tigre is captured by Elen, leading to the kingdom’s civil war.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler:Tigre kills him off in a one-on-one duel at the end of Volume 5]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Even as one of main villains, Thenardier loved his son as he deemed as the only person who reflected his humane side. [[spoiler:He also survived under his wife,Melisande.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In Volume 4, Thenardier is disgusted that Ganelon had tortured Roland to death.
* EvilMentor: To Zion, whom he raises to be as ruthless as himself.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:He is killed by Tigre, the very same archer that was ridiculed in Brune. Also, he wants to exact revenge against Tigre for Zion’s death, which leads to his ultimate death]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears red and black armor as well as a red jacket in his regular clothes, and is one of the [[BigBad Big Bads]].
* {{Revenge}}: Swears to kill Tigre, and his followers, out of revenge for the death of his son.
* SocialDarwinist: Like his father before him, and his grandfather before that, if you're "weak" you have no right to call yourself "human" and deserve to be cut down.

!!Duke Maximilian Bennusa Ganelon/[[spoiler:Koschei]]
->Voiced by: Creator/NobuoTobita (Japanese), Barry Yandell (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17_ganelon_3113.jpg

One of Brune's two strongest ministers vying for the throne, and follows the ideal of cunning, bribery and blackmail to reach his goals.

Ganelon controls Brune from the shadows through a wide variety of connections due to his affluent intellect, wealth and level status, and does whatever it takes to seek power. He sees Tigre as a major roadblock for his goal to take the throne, but fails to put down his rebellion during the initial stages of his uprising.
----
* AgentProvocateur: [[spoiler:Stirs up trouble in Zhcted to repay Tina for safe housing him and Greast]].
* AristocratsAreEvil: Everything that he does is planned for in advanced.
* BadBoss: Roland found this out the hard way after one too many failures.

* BaldOfEvil: He has no hair and is the BigBad.
* BigBad: Along with the demons, Ganelon is the definitive main antagonist of the entire series. Most of the conflicts are the result of his meticulous planning.

He also had Greast plunder villages, he is responsible for the death of Roland and [[spoiler:the eventual death of Faron]].

Duke Felix Aaron's son, and prince of Brune.

Zion is first introduced instigating a fight with Tigre before he took part in the Battle of Dinant. However, Zion survived, and turns up again after the war where his father orders him to raise Alsace to the ground.
----
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: He led the assault on Alsace.

* AttemptedRape: Pulls this on Titta during the Alsace invasion, but it fortunately gets interrupted thanks to [[BigDamnHeroes Tigre and Elen’s intervention]].
* CharacterDeath: Zion dies when he gets shot by Elen and Tigre’s combined attacks just as he is about to escape.
* DeathByPragmatism: Tries to flee a losing battle on dragonback. Tigre shoots him down with a little help from Elen's draconic tool.
* DirtyCoward: Despite having not one, but two dragons, and an army twice that of Tigre's he fled Alsace the moment he met any actual resistance.
* [[EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas Even Bad Men Love Their Papas]]: He clearly loves his father despite being a {{Jerkass}} to everyone.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He may be the son of an aristocrat and a merciless soldier, but he draws the line at attacking temples because he knows that if they do so, all of Brune’s temples will turn on him. In the anime, he also reveals that he can’t use dragons in Alsace as it would go against his father’s wishes.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: He wears pink and red, indicating his evil nature.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Decries Tigre for being captured by Elen, proclaiming Tigre should have fought until his weapon broke instead of trying to run away. (Despite the fact that Tigre ''did'' indeed fight until his weapon failed.) Guess what he does the moment he faces actual combat as opposed to butchery of unarmed peasants? Never mind using archers on Tigre despite condemning Tigre's use of a hunting bow at the start of the story.
* {{Jerkass}}: Not only did he ruthlessly belittle Tigre for his archery skills before Elen’s assault at the Dinant Plains, he also tried to invade Alsace and attempt to violate Titta to further insult him.
* KarmicDeath: He dies after having his hand and arm shot by Tigre, and is disintegrated by Elen and Tigre’s combination attack just as he is escaping.

* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears red and pink armor, has black hair and is a villain.
* StarterVillain: He is this for the first saga, and the entire series in general.
* TooDumbToLive: It’s rather inadvisable to invade Tigre’s mansion, rape Titta when she point blank tells you to get out of the mansion, and mock Tigre for his archery skills and his affiliation with Zhcted.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He seriously underestimates Tigre’s archery skills and nobility. Zion pays for this with his life.
* WouldHitAGirl: He has no problems attempting to rape a maid.

After Volume 12, Melisande is dead, which means that House Thenardier is no more and it ironically leaves Regin the last surviving member of the Brunish nobility descended from Charles.]]
* MeaningfulName: Melisande is named after the character of the same name from the stage play ‘’Pelleas and Melisande’’ by Maurice Maeterlinck, as well as the compositions of the same name by Arnold Schoenberg and Music/ClaudeDebussy.

->Voiced by: Creator/HitomiHarada (Japanese), Creator/MonicaRial (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/06_valentinaglinkaestes_6802.jpg

The wielder of the Dragonic scythe of shadow, Ezendeis, and the lord of the Osterode territory in the Zhcted Kingdom.

The most mysterious of the Vanadis, Tina is the type that shows a sweet, gentle, smile on the outside, but is actually cunning and manipulative on the inside. In addition, Tina has within her the royal blood of the Zhcted nobility, and will go to any length to make her wish to become the queen of Zhcted a reality. Her ambition prompts her to initiate, and put down, a civil war in the Zhcted Kingdom in an attempt to raise her reputation, and status, for when the time comes to take the throne for herself.
----
* AffablyEvil: Unlike most of the [[BigBad Big Bads]], Tina is a NobleDemon who just wants to become the queen of Zhcted. Her reasons for conquering the kingdom are out of necessity as she has the royal blood of the Zhcted nobility. She has several opportunities to give Tigre and the others a fighting chance.
* AffectionateNickname: Volume 14 reveals her nickname as Tina.
* BeneathTheMask: Tina shows a gentle smile, but deep down, she is cunning and manipulative, and willing to do anything to become queen of Zhcted.

* CastingAShadow: Tina's main ability thanks to her Dragon Tool, Ezendeis.
* TheChessmaster: How she plans to become queen of Zhcted.
* FakeDefector: Does this as part of a ploy in Volume 11, Chapter 4.
* FlowerInHerHair: She wears a white rose on her hair as an accessory.
* FreudianExcuse: Her territory is in straits very similar to Alsace back at the beginning of the story. Unlike Tigrevormund Vorn, however, she can't simply go round up an army and attack the threat directly for several reasons, the most prominent of which is that the King of Zhcted is silently in collusion with those that want to bring harm to her people and seize her territory, out of greed and jealousy, and she knows it. She's faking illness to avoid being sent on a UriahGambit because she's well aware of the king's near paranoid fear of the Vanadis, and their power, her territory becoming too prosperous for the king's taste, and her neighbors hasn't helped. Becoming the High Queen is basically her only option to protect her people.
* FreudianThreat: Does this to Tigre in Volume 11 with her scythe, after ''she'' walked in on ''him'' while he was bathing in a river. She was also naked at the time due to bathing herself, out of sight, somewhere upstream. (She let him go because he was honest about seeing her naked, and [[SomethingElseAlsoRises enjoying]] [[BathingBeauty the view.]])
* TheGadfly: She just loves to taunt and tease her fellow Vanadis, Tigre, and any movers and shakers she comes across just to get a reaction. Justified in that said reactions provide valuable intel.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Tina wears a white, red and purple dress, and sports black hair and purple eyes, indicating her sinister nature.
* IknowYouKnowIKnow: She suspects that her deployment with Tigre and Elen in Volume 11 is more than King Victor's usual UriahGambit.
* IllGirl: Tina suffers from an illness that keeps her physically weak. [[spoiler: She is faking it.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: All the nasty things she's done in the series have been done purely for the sake of keeping her people safe. She not only loves them dearly, but is loved by them in turn.
* LightIsNotGood: She wears light-colored clothes but she is a cunning war maiden.
* ManipulativeBitch: Tina is willingly to do anything to become queen...anything.
* MeaningfulName: Tina is a German, Latvian, Italian and Spanish given name derived from the Latin word Valentines, which means “healthy”. Glinka is a Polish and Slavic name and Estes is derived from the Old English term which means “of the East.” Tina lives in Zhcted, which is in the eastern lands of Europe.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Her nickname, the Illusory Princess of the Hollow Shadow, is a scary name.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Tina's FakeDefector plot in Volume 11 ends up causing Brune to brand Tigre as a “traitor” by Brune’s nobility again.
* NobleDemon: She does have a code of honor, given that she is a war maiden and is well loved in her native Osterode.
* NomDeGuerre: She is known as the Illusory Princess of the Hollow Shadow.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Her eyes are colored purple, appropriately enough given that she is the war maiden of Osterode.
* RapunzelHair: She has long, waist length hair.
* SinisterScythe: Tina's Dragonic Tool, Ezendais.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: The anime has her sitting at a chess table playing a game against an unseen opponent in the opening.
* SmugSuper: When she shows her true face.
* SomethingAboutARose: Tina has different colored roses: a white one on her head, a purple rose on her waist and several red roses on her uniform and shoes.
* TeleportSpam: Unlike the other Vanadis, Tina is able to teleport to wherever she wants and doesn't get tired from it.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Compared to her fellow Vanadis, her actions have been the most dark and troublesome.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:
** In Volume 6, Tina sends Tigre out to Asvarre to end a civil war there along with Sofya and Olga, inadvertently causing Tigre to lose his bow and his memory after being attacked by Torbalan, and Liza to discover him.
** During Volume 11, her FakeDefector plot during the Sachstein invasion causes Tigre to be branded as a traitor ‘’again’’ and indirectly leads to the insurgency in Brune. [[SarcasmMode Good work there]].
* WeComeInPeaceShootToKill: Discussed. She offers this to Elen and Tigre to help defeat their mutual enemy. She is turned down.

!Demons

[[OutsideContextVillain The ultimate antagonists of the series]] are seven ancient powerful demons with connections to the Vanadis as well as Tigre's bow. Each one has a unique power in addition to near total immunity to conventional weaponry, resistance against magical weapons, teleportation, the ability to take human form, and a complete disregard for the sanctity of life.

Their origin and ultimate objectives are yet unknown. What is known is that they have infiltrated positions of power in every country on the continent and are involved in (if not responsible for) all the wars and national tensions in the series. They are divided into two factions based on their intention towards Tigre and the black bow: half want him dead, the other half want him alive and captured.

Several have already perished at the hands of one another or the Vanadis.

[[folder:The Seven Demons]]

!!Drekavac
->Voiced by: Akihiro Nemoto (Japanese), Creator/ChuckHuber (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/18_drekavac_1866.jpg

A fortuneteller, and one of Duke Thenardier's most loyal subordinates.

Drekavac is the key as to why Thenardier's army is so overwhelmingly powerful; training several types of dragons to make up the the firepower of Thenardier's forces. He also seems to have knowledge regarding the black bow that is currently in Tigre's possession.

----

* TheBeastmaster: Trains dragons as a means to power up Thenardier's army.
* DevilInDisguise: Thenardier himself acknowledges there's something off about him, but Drekavac serves loyally until the Duke's death.
* FortuneTeller: His implied occupation when he's not working for Thenardier.

!!Vodyanoy

A man that works under Drekavac.

He is actually a frog demon that knows about the black bow Tigre wields. Vodyanoy tries to kidnap Tigre to learn more about the man who wields the bow, but ends up losing in a fight against him and Mira; forcing Vodyanoy to retreat. He returns later on to act as a roadblock to keep Elen away from Baba Yaga's fight with Liza and Urs (Tigre).

----

* CharacterTics: Carries around a bag of gold coins to chew on.
* DevilInDisguise: A frog demon that disguises himself as a human.
* TheDragon: While he ''does'' technically work under Thenardier, he's Drekavac's right-hand man.
* OverlyLongTongue: Being a frog demon, this is a given.
* PragmaticAdaptation: The anime skips over his fight with Tigre and Mira. However, when you look at it from the anime's perspective, which will only be adapting the Brune arc, Vodyanoy's fight would have felt completely out of place as the demon lore only starts to expand further out after the Brune civil war concludes.

!!Torbalan/Leicester

A giant white demon who disguises himself as an Asvarre general named Leicester. He sides with Prince Elliot in the civil war; commanding a group of soldiers that hold down the Asvarre Kingdom's Fort Lux.

Torbalan was forced to reveal his true-self when he fought Tigre and Olga during their invasion of Fort Lux. Torbalan ends up losing the fight, and is forced out of commission for a brief time, but later on, he returns to fight Tigre on his return home from Asvarre, and launched an invasion on Zhcted with a vast pirate army.

----
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler:Finally met his end in a fight against Sasha in Volume 8.]]
* DevilInDisguise: A white-horned demon who disguised himself as an Asvarre general.
* TheLeader: Of the Asvarre soldiers that hold down Fort Lux, and later, a legion of pirates to launch an invasion on Zhcted.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: In its human form, it has a long (off-screen) history of raping women, especially virgins, and then eating them, until not even their bones are left. It explicitly threatens both Olga and Sasha with this, in its demon form.

!!Baba Yaga

A demon that disguises herself as an elderly woman of Lebus.

At some point prior to her introduction, the Vanadis, Liza, formed a contract with her in exchange for the demon’s power. In the present, Liza seeks her out to confront her after Baba proves to be a major threat for the people of Lebus.

----
* BigBad: Of Volumes 8-10.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler:Near the end of Volume 10. After escaping, weak and battered, from possible death against a newly awakened Tigre, she runs into her fellow demon, Koschei, who finishes her off in order to eat Baba for more demonic power]].
* DealWithTheDevil: Liza formed a contract with her at some point in the past when she wished to Baba Yaga for power in order to not lose to anyone if she was ever in a pinch.
* DevilInDisguise: A demon that takes the form of an elder woman. She reveals her true self when she decides to get serious in a fight with Liza and Urs (Tigre).
* FinalBoss: Of the second arc.
* {{Flight}}: Can fly.
* SuperpowerLottery: After awhile, it becomes clear that Baba Yaga is just ''loaded'' with abilities to use.
** CharmPerson: Is capable of mind manipulation; forcing 15 Lebus soldiers to fight for her. However, it can only be done on the WeakWilled such as said 15 soldiers who were jealous of Urs interacting with Liza.
** DishingOutDirt: Similar to EnemySummoner, she can form humanoid soldiers made of nearby soil/clay to fight for her.
** EnemySummoner: Can summon black creatures of miasma, such as snakes, to fight for her.
** PlayingWithFire: Can shoot fireballs.
** MasterOfIllusion: Can create illusions to confuse/manipulate her opponents.
** {{Telepathy}}: Can speak to others, such as Vodyanoy, through her mind.
** ShockAndAwe: Can fire lightning bolts.

!Kingdom of Brune

Tigre's home country.

[[folder:Alsace]]

!!Tigrevurmud Vorn
->Voiced by: Creator/KaitoIshikawa (Japanese), Creator/JoelMcDonald (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/01_tigre_3876.jpg

* MyGreatestFailure:
* ThanksForTheMammaries: Tigre's modus operandi of {{accidental pervert}}hood.

* TheCaretaker: As Tigre's maid.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Whenever Tigre is around other girls, Titta ends up taking Tigre away from them
* ChildhoodFriends: With Tigre.
* {{Maid}} / {{Meido}}: Titta became a maid to stay near Tigre's side.
* MeaningfulName: “Titta” is Swedish for “to look.”
* OhCrap:

* BaldOfAwesome: He is half-bald.
* MentorOccupationalHazard: In Volume 5, he saves Tigre from certain death, but at the cost of his own life.

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/19_urz_3726.jpg

[[folder:Brune Nobility]]

!!King Faron Soleil Rauy Blainville de Charles
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Japanese), Creator/JasonDouglas (English)

* ChildhoodFriends: With Tigre. They met during their excursions outside their homes.

* FakingTheDead: In the first arc of the story after her escape at the Dinant Plains.

* InTheHood: She wears a hood during her exile after her escape from the Dinant Plains.

However, the failed invasion, which also resulted in the death of his son, took its toll on Felix; destroying the little humanity he had remaining, and swearing to kill Tigre and his rebel followers out of revenge.

* KickTheDog:

* YouKilledMyFather: To Elen, since she killed Rodian in her TroubledBackstoryFlashback.
* ZettaiRyouiki: She often wears thigh-high leggings and garters, although most of it is covered by her dress.

!!Naum

A veteran knight loyal to Liza who acts as her supervisor.

Similar to Lim's development, Naum is skeptic about Tigre (Urs at the time) being chosen as Liza's servant due to the possibly of it putting a damper on his lord's reputation, but starts to come around after seeing Tigre's work under Liza's guidance. The two eventually begin to trust one another as Naum discusses to Tigre about Liza's past, and her history with Elen.

----

* LoyalToThePosition: His first loyalty is to the Vanadis of Lebus. However, he's very proud of Liza on a personal level.
* {{Mentor}}: To Liza; teaching her the necessities to be a good lord.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Is this for Liza to make sure that she makes a good lord for her people, and later to Tigre after he starts to trust him.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Liza.

!!Lazarl

An old civil official of Lebus that serves as an aid for Liza.

Like Naum before he befriended Urs (Tigre), Lazarl questions his lordships favoritism towards her new servant, and the possible feelings of animosity that will come of it amongst the soldiers of Lebus.

----

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Didn't think Urs would complete his task as a mediator, or that Liza was more cunning then he thought.
* NumberTwo: To Naum.
* OutGambitted: He does his best to make sure that Urs doesn't get over-rewarded for his previous accomplishments. He succeeds at first, but ends up getting played by Liza which resulted in Urs getting a high reward anyway.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Liza to the point that he tells her straight out that he will always be there or her. Later Urz as well after coming around to accepting him, even willing to help Urs if he decides to live in Lebus despite the feeling of jealousy/animosity that the people of Lebus have towards Urs Urs.

!!Valentina Glinka Estes
->Voiced by: Creator/HitomiHarada (Japanese), Creator/MonicaRial (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/06_valentinaglinkaestes_6802.jpg

* BitchInSheepsClothing: The soft spoken, polite and noble war maiden was simply a role for Tina to hide behind - the truth is that she is a ManipulativeBitch.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:

!!Olga Tamm
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/07_olgatamm_4486.jpg

The wielder of the Dragonic axe of lunate, Muma, and the lord of the Brest territory in the Zhcted Kingdom.

Due to her young age, Olga would often run away from her territory, and travel the world, as she doesn't feel ready to rule her land. One such adventure brought her before Tigre who had been tasked by the king of Zhcted to carry out a secret mission related to the Asvarre civil war. Olga herself hopes that Asvarre might have the answer shes looking for, and together, the two end up traveling to Asvarre; becoming involved in its war soon after.

----

* AnAxeToGrind: Olga's Dragonic Tool, Muma.
* BoyishShortHair: She has short hair and anyone can mistake her for a boy when they first see Olga.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: Combined with JailbaitWait. Tells Tigre that, although she'd like to marry him, she recognizes their obligations would keep them apart. She asks if he would accept fathering her children instead, in the tradition of her people. He gets her to agree to wait four years.
* CuteBruiser: Olga might be tiny, but she is strong and a hard worker.
* DishingOutDirt: Olga main ability thanks to her Dragon Tool, Muma.
* HairDecorations: Wears a pink ribbon on her head.
* InTheHood: This is how she makes her entrance in Volume 6 when Tigre encounters her.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Saw nothing wrong with stripping and bathing right in front of Tigre who could not leave the room because they were at sea to Asvarre. She also had no problems sharing Tigre's bed on the voyage, [[RealityEnsues even when a certain part of Tigre's anatomy had the usual morning response.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: 14 years of age is quite high for a TokenMiniMoe.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She did have instinctive misgivings about doing the same when Torbalan demanded it, however, although she consciously did not understand why.
* StockingFiller: Wears fishnet stockings on her standard uniform.
* TokenMiniMoe: Despite being 14 years old, Olga has the appearance of a child.
* WalkingTheEarth: Before she met Tigre, Olga was traveling the earth due to not feeling ready to rule her land.

->Voiced by: Katsumi Cho (Japanese), Jim White (English)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20_kingofzchted_8998.jpg

The current monarch of Zhcted.

Despite being king, Victor allows the Vanadis to do whatever they desire so long as they keep Zhcted's well-being first and foremost, and to keep the Vanadis users happy due to the fear that the power of their Dragonic Tools could be used against him if one is treated unfairly. However, how much a Vanadis can get away with comes to question when he learns that Elen has invaded Brune to protect the territory of Alsace from its own people, and is only convinced otherwise when Elen offers him new land, and better relations with Brune, should Tigre's revolution succeed.

Later on, he decides that the time has come to finally pick out who will be the successor to the throne of Zhcted.

----

* TheEmperor: The monarch of Zhcted.
* GrumpyOldMan: Acts like this towards Elen regarding her actions in Brune.
* NotSoDifferent: Tells Tigre that before he became king he wanted nothing more than to spend his life hunting in peace.
* UriahGambit: Does this to the Vanadis, often, and they are all well aware of it. He also has a habit of sending their troops away purely to chip away at their strength.
* WhatTheHellHero: Calls out Tigre's lack of ambition and that his humility may backfire on him one day considering Tigre's a noble and a war hero.

!!Eugene Shevarin

The Earl of Zhcted's Pardu territory, and Elen and Lim's former mentor.

Due to King Victor's age catching up to him, Victor picks out Eugene to be his successor to the throne despite having no ambition to ever wanting the throne of Zhcted.

----

* {{Mentor}}: Formerly to Elen and Lim.
* SpareToTheThrone: In line to the throne of Zchted. [[spoiler: And the king personally assigns him to it.]]

!!Ilda Krutis

The Duke of Zhcted's Bydgauche territory, and King Victor's nephew.

Ilda is, at first, bewildered as to why Victor chose Eugene to be the new King over him despite being one spot higher in line to the throne, but he comes to accept it and decides to work with Eugene for the sake of Zhcted. That all goes south however when its set-up by Valentina to make it look like Eugene had tried to kill Ilda through poisoned vodka. The result being a declaration of war against Eugene.

----

* {{Revenge}}: Aims to kill Eugene; believing that he had attempted to kill Ilda through poisoned vodka which ended up killing one of his advisors that drank the vodka before him.
* SpareToTheThrone: In line to the throne of Zhcted. He's technically ahead of Eugene, being Victor's nephew, while Eugene married into the family.

!!Orgelt Kazakov

A feudal lord of Zhcted's Polus territory.

Orgelt is someone who came to disliking the Vanadis, Liza; loathing her odd-colored eyes, as well as her recent actions against Ilda, who Orgelt admires. He attacks the Lebus territory after getting word that Liza had been keeping Tigre as her "captive."

----
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:There’s not much sympathy to be had for Kazakov, especially when he is a mass murderer and mocking Liza’s eyes]].
* CharacterDeath: [[To repay Liza for safe housing Tigre during his amnesia state, Elen decapitates Kazakov's to take the blame, and means of revenge by the people of Polus, put solely on her instead of Liza.]].
* TheDreaded: Nicknamed, and feared, as "Bloody Kazakov" due to his cold, and bloody, actions on the battlefield.
* FinalBoss: He shares this role with Baba Yaga at the end of the second arc.
* {{Jerkass}}: Most of his hate towards Liza stems from her heterochromatic-colored eyes; even thinking that its a curse.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:He is killed by a friend of the war maiden who considered her eyes a bad omen]].
* OffWithHisHead: [[spoiler:Courtesy of Eleonora Viltaria]].
* WeaponOfChoice: A large mace.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler:He was around only to provide a brief strategic battle involving army movement in a Volume that is mostly devoid of it due to the Baba Yaga chapters, and to strengthen Valentina's influence in the northern Zhcted territories after his death.]]

Germaine now rules the kingdom, but suffers from paranoia and rules as a ruthless tyrant at the expense of his general, Tallard.

----

* {{Jerkass}}: Attempts to kill off all his siblings, and tries to kill Tigre and company; both for no justifiable reason.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:In Volume 6. Tallard kills him due realizing that Germaine's actions were going to cause them to eventually lose the war against Elliot]].

!!Prince Elliot

The younger brother of the two survivors. Elliot decides to rebel against Germaine; swearing revenge for the deaths of his family.

Elliot forms an alliance with Muozinel thanks to his capture of Sophie as a bargaining chip, who was sent before Tigre to also attempt an Asvarre alliance.

* {{Jerkass}}: Acts like one towards Sofy; having no problem shipping her off to complete a deal with Muozinel for soldiers.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:In Volume 7, he attempts to run after his failed invasion on the Asvarre mainland, but ends up getting shot by one of Tigre's arrows]].

!!Princess Guinevere

----
* BigBad: Of Volumes 8-10.
* {{Flight}}: Can fly.
