Tom never married because he could not feel love and so wasn’t interested in a relationship, while Rionach decided to stay single so that there would be no more descendants of Salazar. Tom's parents played no part in raising him while Rionach’s parents raised her. Tom also failed to become a D.A.D.A teacher at Hogwarts (founded in part by Salazar) while Rionach had no problems becoming the D.A.D.A teacher for Ilvermorny (founded in part by her mother).

A witch from Ireland that, when young, was abducted by her aunt, Gormlaith Gaunt who killed her parents. When she is old enough to figure this out, she steals Gormlaith's wand and escapes to North America during its colonial period. Eventually she becomes a founder and co-headmistress of the Ilvermorny school of witchcraft and wizardry alongside her muggle husband, James Steward.

* AnimalMotifs: Is associated with serpents like other descendants of Salazar, and names one of the Ilvermorny houses Horned Serpent after the creature she had befriended.

* {{Foil}}: To her ancestor, Salazar Slytherin. Both are founding members of wizarding schools that would later become immensely well respected in the countries they reside in, both picked a serpent to represent their houses, both could understand serpents as well, and are purebloods. Unlike Salazar, Isolt lacks his elitist attitude and bigotry, to the point where she falls in love with, marries, and has children with a muggle, and cannot speak parsletongue herself. Salazar eventually left Hogwarts due to conflicts he had with the other members, while Isolt eventually became co-headmistress of her school, and she chose to name one of the Ilvermorny houses "Horned serpent" because she felt a kinship with the one she visited, which was wise, and helpful to her family - a much different relationship than what Salazar and his other descendants had with the [[spoiler:Basilisk of Hogwarts.]]

When he was older, he and Webster helped defend their home from their evil step aunt Gormlaith Gaunt. As an adult, he married the witch Josefina Calderon, a healer from Mexico, and the Calderon-Boot family would go on to become one of the most prominent wizarding families in America. Exceptionally skilled with charms, he wrote a seven-volume book set called “Chadwick’s Charms”, which became standard textbooks used in Ilvermorney’s curriculum.

Eventually, Gormlaith murdered the couple, but failed to capture Isolt, who managed to escape to the New World.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Despite the sole Squib in the family, Angus' siblings went through great lengths to hide his secret from their parents until the day they found out. Although their father forbids them from seeing Angus again, they revolted against him and attended their brother's first rugby match where he scored the first try for Scotland against England and won the match.

* EarnYourHappyEnding: After spending his childhood pretending to be something he's not and getting kicked out of the house when he's exposed, Angus eventually becomes the most famous Squib in history, especially since he is well known by both wizards ''and'' Muggles.

* HistoricalDomainCharacter: Angus Buchanan was actually a real person, but in the Wizarding World universe he's also a Squib.

* MassiveNumberedSiblings: If you think the Weasley have a big family, the Buchanan are even bigger, having eleven children, with Angus being the third son.

* AmbiguousSituation: It’s unclear if she’s Dumbledore’s maternal or paternal aunt. Some translations in languages where there are different words for aunts and uncles depending on their exact relation list her as father’s older sister.
