Goku Black's true identity is the original incarnation of the present timeline version of Zamasu, and the true mastermind behind the events of this arc. Originally the same being as Present Zamasu, this version diverged when he used the Time Ring to create a paradox where he was able to continue existing despite Beerus killing the main timeline Zamasu, whereby the Time Ring protected him from erasure. This Zamasu was therefore able to pull off the scheme that the main timeline version was foiled in: murdering his mentor Gowasu when his guard was down (killing the God of Destruction Rumshii in the process), gathering the Super Dragon Balls, using them to steal Son Goku's body, and then killing him along with Chi-Chi and Goten. With the first phase of his scheme being completed, Zamasu, now using the name "Son Goku", embarked on the next steps of "Project Zero Mortals" by searching for a timeline where Beerus was also dead. That timeline was Future Trunks'.

An evil Saiyan, or [[HumanoidAbomination entity]], who calls himself Son Goku, but is known by his enemies as "Goku Black" or simply "Black", since they're familiar with the original. He looks and sounds a lot like Goku, except that he's thinner, has slightly darker skin, wears a gray gi along with a long-sleeved black undershirt, wears a single green Potara earring, and is '''''extremely''''' '''evil'''. [[MysteriousPast His origins are shrouded in mystery]], but he is in some way connected to [[Characters/DragonBallZamasu Zamasu]], the apprentice Supreme Kai of Universe 10.

* TheAntichrist: Zamasu was already a fallen Kai as soon that his hatred of mortals pushed him to a dark path. Then, he steals Goku's body, a Saiyan with a pure of heart, to start a rampage on a cosmic scale. His Super Saiyan Rosé, being his version of Super Saiyan Blue, which is imbued with divine ki, which further enforce him and (Future) 0Zamasu as [[SatanicArchetype the equivalents to the Christian devil]].

* InSeriesNickname: His actual name is Son Goku, at least Black claims. [[spoiler: However, his true, original name is Zamasu]]. The name Goku Black comes from Future Bulma, who named him such because he wears a black outfit and she didn't want to relate Black to her dear friend.
