* TheUnchosenOne: Can be qualified as this since his powers came from a FreakLabAccident and he [[JumpedAtTheCal ultimately chose to use them for good]].

The main hero of the series. Upon obtaining his [[ArtificialHybrid ghost powers]] through a FreakLabAccident, 14-year old Danny uses it to combat the various ghosts that inhabit his [[CityOfAdventure hometown]]. He starts off shy, naive, BookDumb, and emotional, constantly trying to find a place in the world, whether it be gaining popularity or through his ghost powers. By the end of the series, Danny [[CharacterDevelopment gains confidence, courage, and matures considerably]], and finds his path as a hero.

* AmazonChaser: [[ItRunsInTheFamily Apparently, he inherited this from his father]].

*** [[spoiler:Clockwork also gave Danny a second chance to live as a normal human again (only this time ''[[PointOfNoReturn permanently]]''). Likely boasted from the last time he tried that, Danny acknowledges that his powers are now a part of him and he CantStayNormal, even if he had another chance. He ultimately chooses to remain half-ghost to continue protecting humanity.]]

* EyeColourChange: His human side has blue eyes, and his ghostly SuperHero alter ego has green eyes, but whenever he turns evil (either BrainwashedAndCrazy or as his [[spoiler:[[FutureMeScaresMe evil alternate-future self]]]]) his eyes turn [[RedEyesTakeWarning red]].

* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Danny is a half-ghost who fights other ghosts. Danny is a brutal hunter, who usually throws the first punch, but he is merciful towards ghosts that aren't threatening his town and the world.

* IJustWantToBeNormal: Danny has expressed this desire from time to time due to the large amount of danger and stress that comes from having ghost powers and needing to protect his town.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Danny can be intentionally cruel and selfish, but he always aims to save the day.

* SaveTheJerk: Danny will save humans that are cruel to him.

* TaughtByExperience: Danny became a badass through constantly fighting ghosts.

* TheUnchosenOne: Can be qualified as this since his powers came from a FreakLabAccident and he [[ComesGreatResponsibility ultimately chose to use them for good]].
* UngratefulBastard: Jazz has been a loving and supportive big sister since the start. Danny often treated her only as a nuisance.

* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Downplayed. Unlike other [[VanHelsingHateCrimes ghost hunters, like his parents, the Guys in White and Valerie Gray]], Danny has no interest in destroying his enemies as there are some he at least tries to befriend and is capable of understanding [[NotAlwaysEvil not]] ''[[NotAlwaysEvil all]]'' [[NotAlwaysEvil ghosts are evil]]. As for his clones, it's played straight with the more non-sentient ones, but averted with Danielle, as by the time he found out what she is, he had already started to grow fond of her and accepted her as family.

** Sam is the reason Danny gets brainwashed by Freakshow. She was the one who wanted to skip school and forcibly dragged Danny to the circus. This is never openly acknowledged, and she never apologizes.

* OnlySaneWoman: Jazz is the only person who doesn't [[FantasticRacism hate ghosts]] and instead diligently uses her skills to [[BigSisterInstinct protect her younger brother]].
* ParentalSubstitute: She thinks she's more capable of taking care of Danny than their parents, mostly because their [[VanHelsingHateCrimes hate-fueled obsession with ghosts]] which makes them [[ParentalNeglect inattentive and selfish parents]].
* PromotionToParent: Jazz is an unconditional source of support for Danny. She knows he's [[HalfHumanHybrid part ghost]] and loyally protects him from his enemies and their [[VanHelsingHateCrimes ruthless ghost hunting]] [[ParentalNeglect parents]].

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Jazz is correct that her parents obsession with ghosts is detrimental for their family. It's [[ManChild Jack]] and Maddie's fault that [[FreakLabAccident Danny becomes half-ghost]] and the ghosts that terrorize the town come out of their portal.
** Jazz is also correct that Jack and Maddie Fenton's [[VanHelsingHateCrimes openly murderous attitude towards ghosts]] would prevent Danny from wanting to tell them his secret.

* TookALevelInKindness: She wasn't exactly mean early on just very stuck up and condescending even though she did mean well. She humbles up a lot becoming one of the most likable characters in the entire series.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Danny, always.

* WackyParentSeriousChild: [[FatIdiot Jack Fenton]] and Maddie Fenton are [[VanHelsingHateCrimes ruthless ghost hunters]] who often put their obsession over their [[ParentalNeglect children]], [[MamaBear unless their]] [[PapaWolf kids are in danger]]. Jazz Fenton is levelheaded, rational and [[BigSisterInstinct attentive]] to her younger brother.
* WhatTheHellHero: Does this to her parents in "Reality Trip," spelling out to them that the reason Danny never trusted them enough to tell them of his ghost powers is because they constantly ranted about [[VanHelsingHateCrimes wanting to destroy all ghosts]], ''right in front of him''. [[FatIdiot Jack]] and Maddie both have a JerkassRealization at that.

* ParentalSubstitute: She thinks she's more capable of taking care of Danny than their parents, mostly because their [[VanHelsingHateCrimes hate-fueled obsession with ghosts]] of makes them [[ParentalNeglect inattentive and selfish parents]].
