[[folder:Yume Nijino]]
->'''Voiced by''': Miyu Tomita (speaking), Sena Horigoshi (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yumenijino.png]]

Cheerful and restless, Yume is a long-time fan of Hime who entered Four Star Academy in order to become a member of S4 and meet her. In the first episode, a strange phenomenon caused her to put on a performance that amazed everyone, until she passes out and is unable to remember anything upon waking up. She is a cute-type idol from the Flower Song Class who uses the brand My Little Heart. In Season 2, she created her own brand, Berry Parfait, which she later upgrades into Rainbow Berry Parfait with the help of Koharu.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Koalas. Her brand's mascot is a koala and she includes a drawing of a koala in her autograph.
* AscendedFangirl: A fan of Hime's whose dream was to enter S4, which she accomplished at the end of season one.
* BadLiar: The poor girl is unable to lie to save her life.
* ButtMonkey: Early on in season one she was shaping into one. She has not only fallen out of tree, but also ran straight into a bush, tripped over her own feet a few times, and some characters treated her poorly.
* BigEater: Almost always seen with a large plate of food, usually something sweet.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Koharu.
* CloudCuckooLander: Hoo boy.
* CompositeCharacter: Most fans compare her to being a cross between prior protagonists Ichigo and Akari. Not only in looks but personality.
* {{Determinator}}: What else to expect from an Aikatsu! protagonist?
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Hime.
* GirlishPigtails: Held by knotted hair. In season two, they're longer and wavier.
* TheGlomp: Most often towards Rola and Koharu.
* HairDecorations: A big pink ribbon.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* HotBlooded: Can be quite competitive and extreme when fired up too much, especially while training. This usually results in her getting hurt.
* IdiotHair: A small one.
* MeaningfulName: Her given name means "dream", while her surname contains the character for "rainbow", a recurring theme for her.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Koharu confirms in the first episode that Yume has always done poorly with them.
* PinkHeroine: It's very rare to find her in anything without [[PinkMeansFeminine pink]] on it. Even her ''hair'' goes from blonde to pink.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Rola's blue.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Rola, more evident in season two and made very blatant in the movie. Also later with Koharu.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The one time she didn't have an appetite, everyone immediately noticed something is troubling her.
* UnwittingPawn: Some fans viewed her this way at first due to the mysterious Headmaster.
* TheKlutz: Best demonstrated by her first meeting with Subaru, which with ends with her falling from a high branch in a tree on top of him.
* {{Tsundere}}: To Subaru, when he acts like a {{Troll}} towards her.
* TechnicolorEyes: Her eyes are three separate colors: red, orange, and yellow.
* ToBeAMaster: She aims to be the top idol, [[spoiler:which she finally accomplishes in Season 2 by defeating then-current reigning idol Elza Forte]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rola Sakuraba]]
->'''Voiced by''': Ayaka Asai (speaking), Rie Fujishiro (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/laurasakuraba.jpg]]

A haughty girl who becomes Yume's first friend and rival at Four Star. A talented singer, she becomes interested in Yume after the latter does really bad in training, despite her amazing first performance. Laura is a cool-type idol in the Flower Song Class who uses the brand Spice Chord.
----
* AnimeHair: A thick ponytail that splits at the middle into three separate drills.
* TheAce: One of, if not THE, best singers in her year. She also managed to get first place in the Song Class audition (which is considered the most difficult one to pass) and shows talent in many fields.
* ButtMonkey: Despite starting out as TheAce, the series slowly starts giving her [[TheWorfEffect some pretty bad losses throughout the first season]]. Come the second season, Rola has become something of a punching bag to the point that the rival school's headmistress [[DudeWheresMyRespect shows very little respect for her despite her talent]] and mocks her even when Rola has success.
* CantCatchUp: Despite her large amount of talent, she's only won a handful of the competitions she's participated in, and compared to the likes of the new S4 she can't really compare. [[spoiler:By the time she makes her international debut, Yume had been the top idol for quite sometime.]]
* CatchPhrase: 'Omoshiroi janai', which roughly translates to "Isn't that interesting?".
* DefrostingIceQueen: While she was never that cold to begin with, befriending Yume has made her a lot softer.
* HairDecorations: A dark purple ruffled hairpiece. In season 2, she swaps it out for a bow.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Starts out with the impression that she thinks pretty highly of herself; almost arrogantly confident. She was very quick to show her superiority over Yume at the beginning of Season 1 by trying to knock her down in regards to making it into S4. Mostly likely influenced by being from a prominent musical family and being raised on high expectations. By episode 7 you can already see that her supposed superiority was a mask for a complete lack of confidence. Mild compared to other more arrogant characters under this trope. See also BreakTheHaughty as the facade breaks down as she continues to lose to Yume and then gets repeatedly insulted by Elza.
* NotSoDifferent: Rola, like Elza, knows what it's like to suppress the emotions she wants to express more than anything, and wants to make Elza realize that.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Yume's red.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Yume, more evident in season two and made very blatant in the movie.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Her name is officially romanized as "Rola Sakuraba". Most fans however find Rola to be a strange name and often refer to her as Laura and less commonly, Lola, both of which were theorized names before it was confirmed.
* StepfordSmiler: Hides her emotions behind emotional walls all while smiling like she's always fine. Tsubasa called her out for always smiling yet sighing to herself when she was alone.
* {{Tsundere}}: Originally displayed a softer variation of this this attitude with Yume whenever she did something nice for her.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Vinegar kelp. An ice cream was made based on it for her.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Bubblegum pink.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Koharu Nanakura]]
->'''Voiced by''': Megumi Yamaguchi (speaking), Nanase Matsuoka (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koharu.png]]

Yume's childhood friend encouraged to become an idol with Yume after being unable to determine her own future career. A delicate and caring girl who always supports Yume and her goals. She idolizes Yozora and attended the Moon Beauty class as a Sexy-type idol. Her preferred brand is Romance Kiss.
----
* FamilyThemeNaming: Her parents and her follow a four seasons theme. Chi'''aki''', her father, has autumn; '''Natsu'''na, her mother, has summer; and Ko'''haru''' has spring.
* TheFashionista: While the nature of the job makes it a necessity for idols, Koharu in particular is interested in fashion design and is later revealed to be helping design for Elza's brand.
* FlowerInHerHair
* {{Meganekko}}
* PaletteSwap: Her school dresses, the first one being a Palette Swap of Mahiru's and the second a Palette Swap of Kirara's.
* PutOnABus: Koharu was forced to drop from the academy due to her father's work requiring him to go to Italy for an extended period.
** She returns in season two attending Venus Ark as a fashion designer. And she finally gets a chance to sing during the Halloween episode.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Yume. One episode even has them having a late night conversation where Koharu goes on about how much she loves Yume, and Season 2 really expands on how close the two are.
* ShrinkingViolet: Slightly. She is openly friendly and sweet but she is soft-spoken and lacks much faith in herself at first.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Lavender.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ako Saotome]]
->'''Voiced by''': Natsumi Murakami (speaking), Miki Mirai (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akosaotome.png]]

An energetic girl who became an idol to pursue her crush on M4's Subaru. When it comes to being an actress and Idol she is serious and displays a huge amount of talent with a cool personality, but she has a tendency to lapse into a frenzied Cat Girl personality whenever upset. She is a Pop-type idol of the Bird Theater Class who uses the brand Fuwafuwa Dream.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her hair is a shade of caramel in the game, but vibrant vermilion in the anime.
* TheArtifact: The Drama song-type being phased out in Season 2 and the introduction of Kirara as the initial muse for FuwaFuwa Dream put Ako in this status. She doesn't have a whole lot to do, but since she's [[spoiler: an S4 member]], she still needed some screen time.
* AnimalMotifs: Cats. Her personality is that of a CatGirl when very happy or upset, along with wearing a cat bell, having cat-ear-like buns, a cat-like tic, etc.
* BelligerentSexualTension: A mild version with Kanata.
* CompositeCharacter: Fans note that she has a similar personality to Yurika and Tsubaki from the original Aikatsu series.
* ClingyJealousGirl: A PlayedForLaughs variety. Originally she would appear to violently shove Yume or threaten to claw her if she saw her interact with Subaru. This has faded away as she grew closer to her.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Subaru.
* FieryRedhead: Rather passionate when it comes to Subaru.
* HairDecorations: A yellow bow with a sky-blue cat bell on it. Her coords usually give her bows of some type.
* HimeCut: She's a downplayed case; she has the general look of it but the "frenzied cat girl personality" that sometimes comes out is far from this trope. This is represented by how it is combined with a large bow made of hair that resembles cat-ear shaped Odango from the front.
* OffModel: At times, Ako's hair can't seem to decide if it's trying to be a hair bow with a common meeting point at the center of her head, or a set of cat-ear type buns that are noticeably separated on either side of her head. The anime frequently switches around between both, while the game has it always shown meeting at the center.
* OutOfFocus: In season two. She doesn't transfer to Venus Ark along with the other girls, cutting down a significant amount of her screentime, and she's the only S4 member who's not been made the muse of her own brand, eventually sharing Fuwafuwa Dream with Kirara.
* ShipTease: Gets tiny amounts of it with Subaru, her crush. But she gets even more of it with Kanata Kira, the guy who is able to encourage her to be herself and admires her.
* {{Tsundere}}: Originally towards Yume, but moreso is this towards Kanata. Despite being annoyed by his presence and his cleverness, she is very in denial about her feelings for him.
* TsurimeEyes: Bright teal ones.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mahiru Kasumi]]
->'''Voiced by''': Yume Miyamoto (speaking), Kana Hoshizaki (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mahiru_kasumi_0.png]]

A mature girl who comes off as unapproachable due to her strong aura. She's the younger sister of M4's Asahi and S4's Yozora, the latter of whom she initially displays animosity towards. Mahiru is a Sexy-type idol of the Moon Beauty Class and uses the brand Romance Kiss.
----
* TheAce: In addition to being the best model in her year, her performance skills are widely recognized by other characters. [[spoiler: During the S4 Selection, her score was the second highest, only behind Hime's.]]
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: The youngest of the Kasumi siblings, who is ironically, very mature.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Comes off as standoffish to others, and even acts bluntly when first meeting Yume, whom she hasn't heard of up to that point. Quickly melts after befriending the others, then even further after she makes up with Yozora. As of late, she's very nice.
* {{Determinator}}: Hell bent on surpassing Yozora and will not let anything stop her.
* FamilyThemeNaming: Like Yozora and Asahi, Mahiru is named after a phase of the sky. Her name in particular represents daylight, or the midday sky.
* FreudianExcuse: Grew to hate Yozora after thinking she abandoned her when she was little and didn't know how to cope with it.
* HairContrastDuo: Short, dirty-blonde hair to contrast the longer, dark brown hair of her sister.
* HairDecorations: When performing she usually wears a bows or clips.
* MsFanservice: Tends to wear some of the more [[BareYourMidriff revealing]] [[BoobsOfSteel outfits]] compared to her classmates.
* MulticoloredHair: Part of her hair is orange.
* RedOniBlueOni: Ironically, the blue to Yozora's red.
* SiblingRivalry: Her older sister doesn't see it this way, though Mahiru is always quick to give her the DeathGlare and has a really competitive spirit, making her goal to one day surpass her sister.
** After the reveal, it cools down to FriendlyRival.
** Upgrades to full on SiblingTeam in the finale, where [[spoiler:the sisters have formed their own idol duo]].
* SweetTooth: Really likes sweets. Her initial aura has an arch composed of them.
* TechnicolorEyes: Her eye is mostly purple with dual coloring, pale orange and gold.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chocolate, mostly in the form of cake or muffins.
* {{Tsundere}}: At times.
* YoungestChildWins: During the S4 Selection.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lily Shirogane]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/ReinaUeda (speaking), Nanase Matsuoka (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lily_0.jpg]]

Composed and elegant, Lily has a weak body and spends her time off-campus at a rehabilitation facility where she can rest and train. She enjoys fashion and wishes to become a designer. A cool-type Idol who originally used Spice Chord until developing her own brand, Gothic Victoria.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Called "Lilyenne" by Yuzu.
* AnimeHair: Long, thick hair separated in four equally thick drills with an ice-blue ombre. Her straight cut bangs blend in with two more, smaller drills.
* AnimalMotif: Caged birds. They often appear in her coords in some form and her first performance features a giant broken bird cage, while her second features her in one. Her appeal involves her gaining feathery wings near the end.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Yuzu.
* HairDecorations: A purple ruffled piece with a gem and feathers.
* HurricaneOfAphorisms: Well known for throwing proverbs at the drop of a hat.
* AnIcePerson: Nicknamed the "Tundra Songstress" and whenever she's present a rush of cold air blows in.
* IllGirl: A naturally weak constitution forced her to go on a 6-month hiatus during the spring and summer, though this hasn't affected her talent.
* InformedFlaw: Though she is depicted frequently as lacking stamina and body strength, this does little to affect her ability to perform. While her movements in her character songs aren't necessarily wild, she does enough jumping around and spinning (on top of singing), especially in The Wasteland's Miracle, that you'd wonder how she can't even manage two push-ups.
* OutOfFocus: Season 2 has her on the back burner due to the Venus Ark drama.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Yuzu's red.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Yuzu.
* TechnicolorEyes: Red and purple.

->'''Voiced by''': Minami Tsuda (speaking), Ruka Endo (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/himeshiratori.png]]

An Idol Princess said to be an overwhelmingly Idol-like Idol and the representative of the Song Class. She is very popular and polite, and cares very much for the students of Four Star Academy. She took personal interest in Yume after seeing her first performance. and has since kept an eye on her. She is a Cute-type idol who uses the brand My Little Heart.
----
* BadDreams: Was shown suffering from one regarding a past experience, and may very well have had them at other points.
* HairDecorations: A turquoise bow holding up a small ponytail. During performances or when wearing coords, she wears a crown or decorated bows.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: A sweet and compassionate Idol with pale blonde hair.
* LongHairIsFeminine
* PassingTheTorch: To Yume as an S4 member. She also passed My Little Heart to Aria Futaba.
* PimpedOutDress: Her Premium Dress.
* PinkIsFeminine: Several coords in My Little Heart are pink, as is Hime's Premium Dress and casual attire.
* PutOnABus: Goes on temporary leave in season two traveling the world.
* RefusalOfTheCall: Rejects Elza's offer to join Venus Ark twice.
* SpiderSense: Knows when rain will fall, even if it seems sunny.
* StepfordSmiler: Lightly implied in episode 11. She routinely overworks herself to maintain her public image and gets weaker when it's raining, which she's somehow able to detect. There's also the Headmaster's plans somehow involving Yume, which also worried Hime.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Extremely spicy curry
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her theme color is light blue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tsubasa Kisaragi]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/SumireMorohoshi (speaking), Nanase Matsuoka (singing)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsubasa_7.png]]

Reliable and cool in both temperament and appearance, Tsubasa is not only a hard worker, but makes sure to put love into it. Originally she planned to become a Flower Song student until meeting Hime and then Momoko, the teacher of Bird Theater. She is also the Student Council President and the representative of the Theater Class. Tsubasa is a Cool-type Idol who uses the brand Spice Chord.
----
* AnimalMotif: Bird, with many of her dramas involving bird-based puns (eg. "Bodybird" where she plays as someone's bodyguard) and her general backstory of finding freedom.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Evident during the Valentine's episode, where her pile of chocolates (all given by female students) is noticeably bigger than the rest of S4's.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her school coord. Seems to be a common theme in Spice Chord as well.
* HairDecorations: A gold band.
* PassingTheTorch: To Ako as an S4 member.
** Later, she passes on Spice Chord to Rola.
* PutOnABus: In season two, she left for Hollywood to become a professional actress.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Of Four Star in season one. She's shown to be quite strict, but generally fair about enforcing the rules.
* TomboyishPonytail: Seems the least feminine of the S4.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Indigo with a streak of purple.

* ChildhoodFriends: With Koharu.
* CloudCuckooLander: Hoo boy.
* CompositeCharacter: Most fans compare her to being a cross between prior protagonists Ichigo and Akari. Not only in looks but personality.
* {{Determinator}}: What else to expect from an Aikatsu! protagonist?
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Hime.
* GirlishPigtails: Held by knotted hair. In season two, they're longer and wavier.
* TheGlomp: Most often towards Rola and Koharu.
* HairDecorations: A big pink ribbon.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* HotBlooded: Can be quite competitive and extreme when fired up too much, especially while training. This usually results in her getting hurt.
* IdiotHair: A small one.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Bubblegum pink.

----
* FamilyThemeNaming: Her parents and her follow a four seasons theme.
* FlowerInHerHair
* {{Meganekko}}

[[folder:Ako Saotome]]

* {{Fangirl}}: Of Subaru.
* TsurimeEyes: Bright teal ones.

----
* TheAce: In addition to being the best model in her year, her performance skills are widely recognized by other characters.

* MulticoloredHair: Part of her hair is orange.
* RedOniBlueOni: Ironically, the blue to Yozora's red.

** After the reveal, it cools down to FriendlyRival.
** Upgrades to full on SiblingTeam in the finale, where [[spoiler:the sisters have formed their own idol duo]].

----
* AffectionateNickname: Called "Lilyenne" by Yuzu.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Yuzu.

* {{Troll}}: More of the DeadpanSnarker variety, but he sure knows how to push Ako's buttons.

* CantCatchUp: Despite her large amount of talent, she's only won a handful of the competitions she's participated in, and compared to the likes of the new S4 she can't really compare.

* CantCatchUp: Despite her large amount of talent, she's only won a handful of the competitions she's participated in, and compared to the likes of the new S4 she can't really compare. [[spoiler:By the time she makes her international debut, Yume had been the top idol for quite sometime.]]

See also {{BreakTheHaughty}} as the facade breaks down as she continues to lose to Yume and then gets repeatedly insulted by Elza.

* AdvertisedExtra: The boys were announced alongside most of the main cast in the beginning of the show, but ultimately they didn't amount to much in the actual series. Season 2 demotres them even harder than they did in Season 1, to the point where they only make a few appearances the whole season before flying out of the country.

* ParentalNeglect: A victim of it, from her mother's hand. Seeing that her mother us a very successful actress, she barely had time to give Elza the affection she wanted, which resulted in 15 years' worth of familial baggage manifest in showing everyone up.

A character can't be an expy purely based off looks. Mikuru and Mahiru have very different personalities.

* {{Expy}}: Fans were quick to notice how much she resembles Mikuru Natsuki from the original series.
