Especially in the second and third tasks, they decide to team up to protect Harry from the various beasts and traps.

* The members of the [[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague Justice League]] see [[Franchise/Ben10 Ben Tennyson]] as a little brother in ''Fanfic/Ben10Unlimited'', and for good reason: they find out early on that an enemy of Ben's (later revealed to be [[spoiler: [[ArchEnemy Vilgax]]]]) [[SoleSurvivor murdered Ben's entire family and team]], leading him to [[DrivenToSuicide try to kill himself]], but it was [[BungledSuicide bungled]] and [[TraumaCongaLine he ended up in the midst of the Thanagarian invasion with barely any time to grieve his loss before being thrust into another fight]]. As such, they do what they can to deal with his trauma, and end up becoming a surrogate family for him.

** In the sequel, Ben and [[spoiler: Kara]]'s son Ken holds a massive protective instinct of his little sister Jen, and develops a similar instinct to [[spoiler: [[CuteGhostGirl Secret]], becoming absolutely furious when he learns [[TheSociopath Harm]] [[CainAndAbel killed her]] to become [[OnlyThePureOfHeart pure]] [[PureIsNotGood evil]] and wield the Sword of Beowulf]]. When [[spoiler: Harm]] insinuates that Ken could be like [[spoiler: him if he killed Jen]], it pushes the [[BewareTheNiceOnes normally]] [[GentleGiant soft-spoken]] [[spoiler: [[HalfHumanHybrid half-Kryptonian]]]] into an UnstoppableRage, brutally beating [[spoiler: him]] so badly that [[spoiler:[[TheStoic Raven]] and Artemis]] are left in complete shock. Afterwards, Ken works to specifically assure Jen and himself that he will never hurt her.

** Harry tends to take this attitude to anyone [[{{Protectorate}} he feels needs protecting]], such as Luna Lovegood, Bobby Drake, and in the sequel, Clark Kent. Since he can pass for Clark's brother for a number of reasons, and looks older thanks to his more traumatic experiences, he even fits the visual archetype. Since he qualifies as a PersonOfMassDestruction by the end of the first book, becomes a fully fledged ApocalypseMaiden in the sequel, and has a nasty temper combined with a creatively ruthless streak, this makes him dangerously effective.

** All of the Strauss siblings look out for each other, and greatly worry whenever one of them is in danger.

* In the ''Anime/OnePiece''[=/=]''{{Anime/Naruto}}'' crossover ''Fanfic/GrowthThroughChaos'', this trope is simultaneously gender-inverted and age-inverted between [[Characters/OnePieceNami Nami]] and [[Characters/NarutoNarutoUzumaki Naruto]] after she learns his DarkAndTroubledPast of [[AllTheOtherReindeer being an outcast]] thanks to being [[SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan a Jinchūriki]], with Nami becoming Naruto's CoolBigSis. On the one hand, '''do not''' harm or insult Naruto around Nami, or she will be furious, as when he is denied [[TrademarkFavoriteFood ramen]] for being a pirate, she actually goes swinging, surprising since she's normally the OnlySaneMan of the Straw Hats (MoneyFetish aside). Even before then, she attacks both Zoro and Sanji when a fight between them ends up with Naruto getting knocked unconscious and attacks Luffy because he stole Naruto's ramen from him. On the other hand, '''do not''' insult or hurt Nami in front of Naruto, or he will get mad, as when Buggy calls Nami a "treasure-stealing she-bitch", he doesn't take it well, and when Alvida nearly hits her, Naruto gives her "[[DeathGlare the same face a certain Mizuki witnessed]]" and uses [[FlechetteStorm Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu]].

* In ''Fanfic/HarryAndTheShipgirls'', the [[VideoGame/KanColle destroyers at Yokosuka Naval Base]] view Franchise/HarryPotter as their younger brother, and will visit grievous bodily harm on anyone who even thinks of hurting him.

* ''Fanfic/ImNobody'': Shepard, Ashley and Axel take a "protective older sibling" role towards Roxas and Xion, though Axel is more of an enabler than a protector at times. Though Axel is quite embarrassed and in disbelief when Yen Sid point out that the other Nobodies consider him an older brother figure. At another point, Ashley bluffs that she's Roxas' older sister to get a crowd of rather lustful women to lay off him.

* Chloe Cerise in ''Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomingTrail'' cares for her little brother and was ''pissed'' when her bullies not only drenched her in red paint, but also attacked her brother with the same paintcan. While she does try to be the bigger man and walk off, she snaps when [[AlphaBitch Sara]] mocks how their dad never cares for Chloe. This makes Chloe snap and wail on her bully before threatening to kill her and all her students if they ever play a horrible prank like that again, call her "Monster Lover" or hurt her brother ever again.

* ''Fanfic/TheLastSeidr'': While SHIELD is highly suspicious of Harry Potter and where he (along with Fawkes) came from (except for Coulson, who's life was saved by the kid), the Avengers quickly become protective of twelve-year-old Harry, with Tony, Bruce, and Thor quickly forming strong bonds with him. Clint, Natasha, and Cap, while not as immediate, also have their moments of this trope with Harry, and actively take steps to make sure SHIELD doesn't get their hands on him.

* While they're shown to protect all of their adoptive siblings in canon [[note]] Well, Jason [[DependingOnTheWriter depends on the writer]][[/note]], in ''Fanfic/PeterParkerNeedsAHug'', Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Jason Todd/Red Hood are this trope in full force. Even when they aren't helping their adoptive siblings fight crime lords and super villains, they are there for their younger siblings emotionally. Jason Todd actually forms a very sweet bond with Peter Parker/Spider-Man even before he becomes a member of the Bat family.
* ''Fanfic/APossibleEncounterForAPhantom'': When asked to visit Middleton by his current crush, WesternAnimation/KimPossible, [[WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom Danny]] is first ecstatic. Then she sends a picture of someone he knows, that being Danielle. He quickly gets serious and became angry when he learned Skulker and Shego attacked her.
* The ''WesternAnimation/{{Megamind}}'' & ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheGuardians'' crossover story ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8772736/1/Protectors Protectors]]'' has Rikki, the elder sister of Roxanne, who is not only protective over her sister, but the other kids as well, especially Teal (Megamind). During the story, it's realized that [[spoiler: Wayne's (Metro Man) father and her mother have been conspiring to turn poor Teal into a villain with Wayne as the hero.]] When Rikki comes face to face with them both, she's ''not'' happy.

** She then yells at her mother, but refrains from hitting her. That is, until her mother goes for Roxanne. Then she's on the floor with Wayne's father.

* In ''Fanfic/ThievesCanBeHeroes'', [[VideoGame/Persona5 Makoto Niijima]] is this for her ChildhoodFriend, [[Manga/MyHeroAcademia Izuku Midoriya]], who is two years younger than her. When they were kids, she would protect him "like a lioness would her cubs" from bullies who wanted to poke fun at him for his Quirkless status. While he's more independent as a teenager, she still tries her best to help him through his troubled situation at Shujin, but is frustrated at the fact that he keeps her LockedOutOfTheLoop to keep her safe from the potential fallout if he fails to steal Kamoshida's heart.

** Aoi's hostage to try and get her to commit murder is her little brother Yuta. However, because Katakuri told them it would be better to not give into fear and paranoia, she feels that she's weak for letting it get to her. However, Big Mom's second son counters that as long as she doesn't let it twist her into a KnightTemplarBigBrother and drives her to become someone she's not, she's not weak for worrying about him.

* Invoked in ''Fanfic/VoyagesOfTheWildSeaHorse'', where Nabiki Tendo gets very angry on her little sister Akane's behalf when she learns that Akane's beloved pet pig P-chan was actually Ryoga Hibiki in a Jusenkyo cursed form all along. Despite, as the other crew pointing out, the fact Nabiki has a history of exploiting Akane for profit herself, such as routinely selling pictures of her to CasanovaWannabe Tatewaki Kuno.

* In ''Fanfic/TheWizardInTheShadows'', Boromir and Aragorn see Harry as a little brother, Aragorn in particular. In the sequel, Boromir outright refers to Harry as a little brother, and spectacularly tears into a guardsman who mocks Harry. As he tells Aragorn, that is something he will not let past.

She's the first to realize that the orphanage where Mirabel and the kids lived was a horrible place just by noticing her stocking up food.

* ''Fanfic/FellHorizon'': Veyle is the one person (after Lumera dies) who Alear is capable of opening up to and treating with unconditional love. And if you do anything to hurt or threaten Veyle, start praying.
* In ''Fanfic/GoldenThreadsTieUs'', one of the [[VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening Severa]]'s regrets is that she was unable to protect her little sister Morgan. Severa even goes so far to compare herself unfavorably with Lucina, who has always been able to keep her own little sister Cynthia safe.

Anyone who actively and seriously messes with one of the two beings who compose Monster X is in for a world of agony and likely death from the other half. * In ''FanFic/MegaManReawakened'', Robert is protective of Roll, and doesn't want her to make the same mistakes he did.

* In ''Webcomic/ScarletLady'', Nino's little brother Chris gets kidnapped by the Akuma duo Sapotis[[note]]Chris had earlier tattled on Ella and Etta Cesarie, which lead the twins to get revenge after they are transformed[[/note]]. This causes the normally calm teen to throw caution to the wind and give chase to rescue him. [[spoiler:It's what leads Chat Noir to pick Nino as the Fox Hero Fox Trot]].

* In ''Fanfic/KarmaInRetrograde'', Touya Todoroki was always looking after his younger siblings, playing with Fuyumi and Natsuo as much possible to cheer them up for being neglected by their father. He'd also intentionally piss Endeavor off to deflect his attention from Shouto onto him, allowing Touya to [[TakingTheHeat face the brunt of his father's wrath]] in Shouto's place.

* In ''Fanfic/AftermathOfAFallenStar'', Shining Armor borders on Knight Templar Big Brother. During the trial, he looks at the murderers and plotters like he wants to kill them. When two ponies crack a mean joke about Twilight in front of him, he beats them up. And last but not least, it's implied that the, as Flash Sentry put it, "well deserved justice" he and the guards gave to Blueblood was his idea. In his chapter Shining says that he enjoyed beating him to an inch of his life.

* ''Fanfic/DreamingOfSunshine'': Shikamaru is quite protective towards his younger twin sister Shikako. So far, he intimidated Sasuke into guilt when the Uchiha harmed her under the Cursed Seal's influence, plans to take down Itachi for [[MindRape mind-raping]] her and even stood his ground against a '''[[GeniusLoci god]]''' when it possessed her.

* Orochimaru exploits this in ''Fanfic/SonOfTheSannin'' by kidnapping Naruto's adoptive brother and sister during the pandemonium of his invasion, then make sure that he finds out about it so he'll leave the safety of the village and run right into a trap set by Akatsuki.

* ''Fanfic/OnceMoreWithFeelingCrazy88'': Shinji returns to the past knowing Rei is his sister and instantly becomes very protective from her. When someone asks him about it, he tells Rei is like a sister he did not know he had (which is actually accurate).

* ''Fanfic/YoureBackMari'': Played for drama. Hero wants to protect Sunny and keep him out of danger, but this stems from his guilt over not being able to prevent the death of Sunny's older sister Mari and fear that any harm that comes to him would be letting her down, which his mind processes as flowers clouding his vision and his arms itching until the danger passes. He goes overboard by protecting Sunny over the most minor of dangers, such as switching out his colored pencils for markers in case he pricks himself and carrying him up and down stairs, and even [[spoiler:pushes Sunny's mother into traffic to prevent him from going home to a toxic environment.]] This only increases after [[spoiler:Sunny is put under the legal care of Hero and Kel's family]], and came at the expense of ignoring his own brother Kel. His overprotectiveness becomes the focus of several conflicts over the story, and at its worst [[spoiler:warps into becoming a manipulative BigBrotherBully when he kidnaps Sunny in the Bad ending.]]

* In the oneshot ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8530881/28/For-Her-Who-is-More Protection]]'', Candace attacks a man who had snatched up Phineas. (That being said, she needn't have worried: the man in question was [[HarmlessVillain Doofenshmirtz]] and he didn't want Phineas stepping onto a trap that was meant for Perry.)

* In ''Fanfic/TwinklingInTheDark'', [[Anime/SmilePrecure Nao]] snaps out of her Bad Energy daze with Akaoni begins to threaten her baby sister Yui.

* Jon Snow in ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/20365015/chapters/48293053 The Dragon's Cub]]'' is a FriendToAllChildren who is deeply protective of kids he acts as a big brother towards, but special mention goes to Joy Lannister. When he first meets her, she only 2 name days (or years) old and crying because she's been left alone by her maid, so Jon proceeds to keep her company by playing with her until her maid returns, upon which he has her reassigned to a different job. And that's not even getting into what Jon did to help her [[spoiler:after she got poisoned]].

* A female example in ''FanFic/TheLegendOfSpyroANewDawn'' is Cynder towards Ember. Ember is ''slightly'' younger than her, but is very childish and naive. Despite the fact Ember has her characteristic crush on Spyro (though in this case, it's due to being to socially naive to realize Cynder and Spyro are mates), Cynder ends up having this mentality towards her, even describing her as being like "an annoying little sister" at one point. This makes hurting Ember in front of Cynder will make her go berserk., which [[EvilDiva Cyros]] finds out the hard way when she [[spoiler:performs a BreakTheCutie on Ember and gets her kidnapped.]] Cynder [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge reacts]] [[SuperpoweredEvilSide violently]].

* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13886333/1/The-Ultimate-Weapon The Ultimate Weapon]]'', Leo, Raph and Don's protectiveness of Mikey is taken up to eleven when they find out [[spoiler:he's the Ultimate Weapon.]]

* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13501363/1/Chaos-Effect Chaos Effect]]'' Self Insert Edwin Chaos tries VERY hard to not to alter canon, understanding this could lead to the end of the world. He lasts until the second chapter after he and Mako save Yugi and Joey from drowning after Weevil threw the Exodia cards into the sea. Edwin storms towards Weevil, every duelist parting to let him pass, then grabs Weevil and threatens to toss HIM overboard unless he gives Yugi and Co his room key.

** During the Shadow Game between Yami and the Spirit of the Ring Edwin refuses to lt Joey send himself to the card graveyard, even though he knows Joey will be fine. Instead he decides to challenge the series' Big Bad purely to protect Yugi and his friends.
