He beats Aggron (Pikachu's counter) with Infernape, Gastrodon (Staraptor's counter) with Buizel, Ninjask (Gliscor's counter) with Infernape, Frosslass with Pikachu (the Mouse Pokémon's second counter), Drapion with Gliscor and Electivire with Infernape after the latter activates Blaze. Paul does claim he was using Aggron and Gastrodon to "figure out" Ash's strategy which lets his Drapion beat Buizel, Staraptor and Torterra, but considering this followed by the aformentioned "Ash foils Paul's counters" thing mentioned, it comes across as IMeantToDoThat.

He does this again when Luffy and Law make it to his castle -- this time he makes Bellamy fight Luffy, correctly guessing that even after he sent Dellinger to kill Bellamy, beaten him to near death and used him as a HumanShield, he would still fight Luffy out of his pride, while Luffy would hesitate to fight someone in his condition.
