* After the SOS mechanic is introduced, should you choose to do a bit of backtracking, it's possible to get a wild Bagon to call in a Level 9 Salamence as a rare encounter, granting you access to a fully-evolved Pseudo-Legendary before you even leave the first island!

* After Popplio received mixed reception with more negative outcries on social media, fans and supporters lended their support and praise for the little sea lion. They formed the "Popplio Defense Squad" to show solidarity and defend Popplio from hate. And this turns into an Ugly Duckling story, because Primarina is both beautiful and the strongest of the 3 starters, and the strongest of any starter that ever was. It has great storyline coverage to boot. It's super effective against a whopping 4 kahunas (Nanu, Hapu, Kiawe, and Hala, to be specific.) Decidueye has only 3 and Incineroar, a meager two.
* Raichu, who has been eclipsed by the fame of its Pre-Evolution for the past 20 years, finally gets to shine with a new Psychic-type Alola form (and its own unique Z-Move). What's more, Alolan Raichu's unique ability lets it double its speed, going from an already-good 110 to a whopping 220. That's even faster than Regieleki, the Pokemon with the fastest base speed stat of 200.
* The demo of this game features a special Greninja with a new ability called Battle Bond, which allows it to transform into Ash-Greninja from the anime. And if that's not cool enough, the Greninja can be transferred to the full game for even more fun!
* Just like in Gen V, it's possible to catch fully evolved Psuedo-Legendaries, and even Espeon & Umbreon, out in the wild. It requires a lot of patience but through SOS Chaining, Dragonite, Salamence, and Kommo-o can also be caught as wild pokemon.
** Salamence is an especially notable case, as it has a 1% chance of being called by Bagon, who on its own only has a 1% chance of being encountered in the wild on Route 3.
** Kommo-o as well, given that normally the new Pseudo-Legendary of each generation requires quite some effort to get to, but here all you require is patience; the wild Jangmo-o in Vast Poni Canyon will only call its two evolved forms, meaning that you're much more likely to see one call its fully-evolved counterpart as a result.
* The game's sale figures. First, it was the most pre-ordered game in Nintendo history. Then, it sold more copies in North and South America than any other video game Nintendo released in its first two weeks (that's 3.7 million copies, an 85% increase over X and Y), in Europe it sold 1.5 million copies in its first week, and in Japan it sold 1.9 million copies in three days.
* After fans failed the first two Global Missions and were subsequently mocked by the media, the third Global Mission was 1 million GTS trades. Seeing as how the GTS is frequently seen as a WretchedHive by fans, being largely comprised of either disproportionate or inadequate trades that are impossible to fulfill, one would think that the same would happen again. However, fans thought of a novel idea: bringing back the Magnemite Coil from Gen V.This was a simple technique which comprised of putting a Magnemite or similar common low-level Pokémon up on the GTS and asking for the same species in return. This strategy was so successful that the fans finished the mission in little more than three days.
** It gets better! The mission came with a bonus Friend Ball in the event players were able to achieve 2 million trades. Thanks to the above method, fans were also able to hit that milestone as well!
** Adding onto this, the fourth Global Mission (getting Battle Points at the Battle Tree) as well as its stretch goal were completed in less than 24 hours. By the end of the mission, 15671838 points were gained within two weeks, more than 6000% of the goal. Fans of postgame and/or the battle facilities such as the Tree, Maison and Frontier were absolutely ecstatic about this massive success, especially after Masuda's infamous quote about why Gen VI had lower difficulty compared to Gens IV and V, and why the Battle Frontier wasn't in ORAS, where he states only a small amount of people would enjoy difficult postgame content.
* This fancomic about Guzma and Wimpod, in which the latter makes absolutely sure that a certain someone never lays a hand on Guzma ever again.
* The games winning Famitsu's GOTY award and award of excellence sure would count! A perfect way to cap off the 20th anniversary.

* Leech Life is a TM. Now, you may be thinking, "What, that 20 Base Power move? Sure, the health steal is nice, but it's worthless on such a weak attack!" Not so anymore. Leech Life's base power has been boosted to a whopping 80, putting it on par with X-Scissor in strength, and making it the most powerful physical HP-Draining Move in the gameIt outranks Horn Leech and Drain Punch, both with a 75 Base Power, as well as outranking the special move Giga Drain. The only better HP stealing moves by the Move's stats alone are Dream Eater, which has 100 Base Power but only works on sleeping Pokemon, and Yveltal's signature move of Oblivion Wing, which recovers 75% of damage dealt rather than Leech Life's 50%.

** Lillie deciding to leave for Kanto at the end of the game in order to become a Pokémon trainer. ALONE. After spending a majority of the game relying on the protagonist, Lillie finally decides that in order to become stronger, she has to face the world by herself, without the protagonist by her side. It’s a really mature and brave decision that really showcases how much her character has developed over the course of the game.

** Mew's Z-move, Genesis Supernova has Mew accumulate orbs of psychic power rapidly as it moves the orbs in the definitive shape of a double-helix, just like a strand of DNA (referencing that Mew has DNA from just about every pokemon). It then launches this massive ball of power at the enemy, hitting them like a meteor and filling the battlefield with psychic power.
