* CallingYourAttacks: This is ''Yu-Gi-Oh'', so practically every monster attack has to be screamed to the heavens (for some monsters it ends up being different every time), and even a fair few EFFECTS have names. New to 5D's, it overlaps with BadassCreed and CatchPhrase with just about everyone spouting a short phrase for their Synchro Summoning. See the quote section for the list of chants.

* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: The show is set at least a few decades after the events of ''GX'', with the titular card game having become an [[SeriousBusiness even more integral part of society]], technology having visibly progressed, and Domino City having devolved into a poorly-kept slum. Kaibacorp remains the biggest corporate conglomerate in the world, however, and at east in the dub several characters from the first two series are still suggested to be active as duelists.

** Brave definitely qualifies, considering his '"Oh noes my life points!!!--just kidding lol" acts and that he rides his D-Wheel STANDING UP half the time, even through battle damage almost-wipeouts. Along with all his other dramatics.

* DyingReconcilliation: After their final duel, Yusei gets to speak to Kiryu Kyosuke (known as Kalin Kessler in the dub) one last time, where the latter makes peace with him after wrongly accusing Yusei of betraying him. Kiryu admits that besides revenge, his other purpose as a Dark Signer was to carry out Team Satisfaction's (the Enforcers in the dub) last duel. It's subverted however when Kiryu is resurrected as a human.

* SelfInsertFic: The entire Story Mode of ''Stardust Accelerator'' and ''Reverse of Arcadia'' essentially inserts your player character into the main protagonist role of the anime plotlines. DoubleSubverted in ''Over the Nexus'' -- the player character is a native to Crash Town with their own friends and family and only has brief run-ins with the anime cast, but by the later half of the game they're forced into the protagonist role once their story intertwines with Team [=5D's=].
