* SpoilerOpening: [[spoiler:Nicol]] is notably absent in the third opening, despite appearing in the first two. This is a war story, so it's not hard to guess what that means.

A lot of machines appear earlier with their intended pilots such as Creuset with the Legend and Cagalli with the Strike Rouge.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: In the final episode, Kira's DivingSave to protect [[spoiler:Flay's shuttle from Providence Gundam's beam rifle shot by using his shield]] does indeed work. However, [[spoiler:because the Providence is equipped with [=DRAGOONs=] that can attack from any angle, there's no way for Kira to protect the shuttle from any follow-up shots that come from any direction his shield isn't pointed at, and the shuttle blows up anyway]].

** Downplayed. When the ''Archangel'' docks at Orb, the mechanics find that a lot of the Strike's equipment needs repairing or replacements as the Agni cannon's parts are completely worn out. Kira's programming for the Strike's OS helped make it move a lot more efficiently but the parts themselves have not been equipped to handle the extra output as the OS demands.

* ElitesAreMoreGlamorous: The prominent ZAFT pilots in the series are the elite red coats. The red coats are either elite pilots or the top ten graduates of the military academy, although they still have the same rank as the ordinary green coat.

* ForgottenChildhoodFriend: Athrun and Kira towards each other.

* GrayIsUseless: Mobile Suits with Phase Shift Armor depend on the color of their activated armor to determine its strength and power consumption. If the armor is deactivated from the suit being on standby in a hangar or the battery running low on power, the only color the armor will have is gray and leave the machine vulnerable.
