* {{Terraform}}: Mars was terraformed to a degree that humans can walk around outside with a breathing apparaturs covering just the face ([[WeatherControlMachine special machines are still needed to keep up the atmosphere]]), but since the colony is in its early stages and rather small, it's like the [[SpaceWestern wild west in space]] (cowboys, (robotic) horses, stereotypical wild west saloons, [[WretchedHive a lack of consistent law enforcement on the frontier letting crime run rampant]], etc.).

* ChildSoldiers: When Emily's (who is a child robot not unlike, say, Astro Boy or Uran) parents get abducted by space pirates, she demands to join Blue Knight's rebel group and to be rebuilt into a battle robot to free them ([[EveryoneHasStandards something even he, the robot rebel leader, is not really comfortable with]]). She insists, and gets her wish of freeing her parents (together with Astro Boy, Blue Knight and his group). Shadow, Blue Knights benefactor, later reverses the battle upgrades, but she seems to be somewhat traumatised by the experience.

** Emily's battle robot form had red, pupil-less eyes (unlike with the previous examples, Emily was turned into a battle robot willingly to free her parents from the terrorist Katari. Shadow, who rebuilt her, was later able to revert these changes, including restoring her previous personality).

* CardboardPrison: The prisons of Metro City are ridiculously easy to break out from, judging by how criminals like Skunk and terrorists like Katari are sometimes back on the streets in the next episode after being arrested with the help of Astro Boy (whatever country Metro City is located in does seem to fare little better, as e.g. Dr. Minimini broke out from some kinda "federal prison").
