Manga Chapter 17: Smoke And Mirrors

As Miho gives the pre-match strategy talk, Yukari ponders how Erika is the vice-captain of Black Forest this time. She notes that Black Forest is much stronger than Oarai, with 20 tanks to Oarai's eight, and assumes Miho is reluctant to openly discuss how badly they're outnumbered (although one would think that Oarai knows this already, and finds it standard). More than anything, Yukari wants to be of use to Miho. At this point, it seems Yukari has something of a two-track mind- thinking about tanks and thinking about Miho.

The scene in which Yukari says that Koume proves that Miho's decision wasn't wrong after all follows, and Yukari seems pleased that Miho "got over something," as might be expected of Yukari.

The scene in which Saori gives more professional radio commands follows, as does the attack by Black Forest. Anteater Team is taken out, without Miho checking on them. Yukari notes that if Anglerfish had been hit, it would have ended right there.

As Miho puts "Operation Smoky" into effect," Yukari narrates about how useful this plan is, and how composed Miho is being even considering that "H-Team" has been eliminated. Once again, the newer arrivals don't get letters, and I'll also point out that it's not always clear whether Leopon or Anteater joined first.

"Operation Biker Gang" begins, and Yukari hopes that the split smokescreen will hinder the effectiveness of Black Forest's guns. Hana worries about whether B and F Teams' smoke screens will hold out, and Yukari insists that it will, but realizes that if doesn't, they're "in deep shit". Enemy HE fire breaks up the smoke screen, but the student council helps out; the part in which they the Jagdpanther happens off-panel.

The chapter ends as the battle on the hill begins, with Maho ordering her troops to surround Oarai.

Next Installment: Miho is faced with the task of overcoming Black Forest's many advantages over Oarai.
