MLLSD Chapter 31: Erased Memory

Anglerfish Team is in the Leclrec cafe, ordering tank cakes. Miho recognizes their server as a glasses-less Nekota, but she doesn't seem to remember them, her time a s "Nekonyaa" or even her love of gaming. Piyotan and Momogawa show up, saying that Nekota has lost her memory. Piyotan explains that in order to improve Nekota's social skills, they had her work various part-time jobs. Unfortunateley, Piyotan ends up delivering Suzuki's soup to her cold, and when Karina asks for an eraser and pencil at the school store, Nekota accidentally knocks a shelf full of goods onto herself, only succeeding in getting the eraser.

Nekota begins to despair, and even more so when they suggest having her work at Leclerc, where earnestly serving customers is something she won't be able to survive. However, Momogawa proposes an image change to "Nekota-san," and Nekota gets into it, discarding her old identity in the process. While she's excellent at her job, her coworkers want their old friend back, and so enlist Miho's help.

Miho starts a multiplayer game with Momogawa, Piyotan and a somewhat reluctant Nekota. The game begins as an RPG, and Nekota still doesn't awaken. Miho struggles with the game, from walking into the wall while typing gibberish, to using the wrong spell, to triggering various traps and dying, but enjoys the game.

Unfortunately, Nekota still doesn't remember anything, and locks herself in her cocoon inside cyberspace. Meanwhile, Anteater Team and Miho are running out of time, as the rest of Anglerfish Team is covering for Nekota. With no other choice, the rest of Anteater Team decides to delete Nekota's save game data, apparently thousands of hours' worth of gameplay, while saying their farewells to her, and it shocks Nekota to the point at which she returns to her old self. Nekota returns to work, promising to try her best, while Miho continues playing, enjoying the game.

It's another good chapter, even if it's highly unlikely that we'll see anything resembling long-term Character Development in a manga of this sort.

Next Installment: Emi's meets two people she never thought she'd see again- one to whom she owes an apology, and another who wants an apology from her.
