Subway Rides Make Me Sleepy

The next chapter opens with, unsurprising, yet another email from Yuuchiro. He’s found the location of the WWW’s base, but apparently it’s way the hell away in the mountains, and there’s no way to easily get there. Yet, he wonders, how did all of the WWW agents manage to get to Den City? That’s a question to ponder.

Going downstairs we find that Wily’s pulled one of the classic evil villain clichés: Do Not Adjust Your Set. Imagine if Youtube or widespread video streaming had been around when this game was made – it would’ve been more topical had he used something like that to disseminate his message given the setting. Or maybe not, since I think one of the Star Force villains did the same thing. Anyway, Wily gives the views at home a brief outline of his Endgame plan. Basically, he’s going to launch a rocket into orbit to transmit the Life Virus to the country’s military satellites, take them over, and presumably start World War III. Talking to Megaman gives us the suggestion that we should talk to “that ex-member” to find out how exactly to get to the WWW base. However when we go to Higsby’s the man is not there. Talking to one of the children hanging out around the shop, we learn that he was kidnapped. Darn, looks like the WWW got to him first. However, he did manage to leave something at the front counter, a WWW Metroline pass? So the WWW must have their own subway line. Snazzy. Unfortunately it’s expired, though. Oh and despite Higsby’s absence, we can still buy chips from the register itself since it’s automated.

Talking to one of the conductors in ACDC Station reveals that we can’t simply use the WWW Pass, but the man does mention that sometimes he hears a subway car passing by, even though there should be no track. Suspicious.

Entering ACDC Elementary’s schoolyard, Lan and Megaman hear the train for themselves, coming from underground. Megaman suggests looking for a secret entrance, and sure enough we discover one behind the statue at the pond. They go inside, unaware that Mayl has seen them, and discover an underground station. They can’t get through the stile with the expired pass, so Megaman suggests visiting Yuuchiro again.

By the way, Chaud’s now hanging around ACDC, and we can challenge him. Protoman’s Navi chip has him attacking the nearest enemy with a Wide Sword. Since he always attacks from the center row, it’s possible to attack multiple foes at once with the right setup.

When we visit Yuuchiro and explain what we need with the pass, he resets it without any protests this time. Now we can so directly to Wily’s hideout.

Taking a little detour to the power plant, there’s a scientist here who’ll give us another quiz, this time with ten questions:

  • Q1: Whose Navi is called Gutsman? (Dex)
  • Q2: Who’s the summer school teacher in Dentown? (Ms. Yuri)
  • Q3: Who owns the chip shop in ACDC Town? (Higsby)
  • Q4: How many chairs are in the school’s AV room? (9)
  • Q5: What musical instrument is in Mayl’s room? (a piano)
  • Q6: How old is Yai? (8)
  • Q7: What chip do you use to escape from battle? (Escape)
  • Q8: The antique shop is on what Block of Dentown? (Block 2)
  • Q9: What kind of toy is in Mayl’s room? (a stuffed animal)
  • Q10: What are Ms. Mari’s measurements? (33-22-33)

Answering all those gets us a Ratton 3 M.

Finally there’s a man in the Waterworks’ filtration room who wants the following chips: Woodman 3 W, Skullman 3 S, Sharkman 3 S, Dropdown B, and Iron Body C. Yeah, he doesn’t ask for much. If one actually bothers to trade with this guy, he’ll give us a Hero Sword B. Is it worth it? Well Hero Sword by itself is one of the rarest and most powerful chips in the game, and since it’s in B code it can be used to assemble the strongest Program Advance in the game, Double Hero, along with Fighter Sword B, Knight Sword B, and Protoman’s Navi chip.

Once we go back to the secret Metroline station, the pass works, and off we go.

But one last scene before we end this update. We cut back to Yuuchiro in his lab when he receives a phone call from Haruka. She’s worried about their son, but Yuuchiro says not to worry. He won’t let what happened “before” ever happen again. As soon as she hangs up a scientist runs over to inform Yuuchiro that he’s got a report on the Life Virus. After reading it, Yuuchiro grimly determines that Lan and “Hub” don’t stand a chance.

Will Lan and Megaman succeed in stopping Wily and the WWW? What does Wily have against Hikari? And who’s this mysterious “Hub”? (almost) Everything will be revealed next as we near the conclusion of Megaman Battle Network!
