Davram Bashere arrives in Caemlyn. Mazrim Taim escaped and he was sent to look for him, but Rand is hoping to get Taim on his side, and Bashere agrees to join him too. Asmodean is killed by a mysterious assailant. And in the country, Morgase has had bad luck forming an army, but still intends to return to her throne.
Lanfear killed Asmodean. That’s what I’m calling right now. As for the rest, it’s just your typical ending stuff for this series, just cementing people in their positions for the next book. Though it’s nice to check in with Morgase again, as her disappearance was getting weird.
In this book, the problems of The Shadow Rising become deeper. The pace has slowed quite noticeably, and not just because the characters are split up more permanently (the complete absence of Perrin here is proof of that). Jordan’s world building was great early on, but now that I’ve got a much better handle on this world and how everything looks, it just becomes tedious. And I’ve decided to stop the project here. I’ll probably continue the series sometime, but I’m just not getting nearly as much out of it as I was when I started, and I’m guessing it’s subsequently just gotten dull for anyone still reading these as well. So that’s it for The Liveblog of Time.
