Chapter 41: The Craft of Kin Tovere

Rand has reached the outside of Cairhein, where the armies of the city and Tear have a very uneasy alliance. He’s had a tower built, and invented the telescope with the help of a glassmaker, enabling him to form a battle plan. And the people trapped inside the city have managed to make a weapon of their own that can send spears flying huge distances with accuracy.

Coming back to this story we again just find a bunch of setup for the new situation, but it’s rather more interesting than usual here as Rand develops into a war leader, and this is clearly going to be the climax of this story. It’s already shaping up to be one of the standouts of the whole series. Also, it’s nice to get an explanation for Couladin’s fake dragon tattoos, even as rushed as it is.

I had forgotten that the telescope was invented at this point. Makes the skills of the four Great Generals even greater, when you consider that they were skilled before these had been developed.
