Chapter 46: Other Battles, Other Weapons
Rand is very weak after the battle, but still insists on entering Cairhein. Aviendha makes a game attempt to stop him, but he manages to beat it, and she comes with him. After seeing the Tairens have taken over the devastated city, he sets things straight by rearranging the crowd according to rank, and declaring Cairhein in charge of itself again.
This seems like the end of Rand’s story in this book, and if it fell apart a bit by skipping a good deal of the climax, at least seeing him put snobby nobles in their place is quite inherently satisfying and leaves a good feeling. We also get a natural Sequel Hook in his going after Sammael, though how long that will last is unclear.
