Chapter 19: Memories

Morgase is informed by Tallanvor of the Two Rivers rebellion, and when she hears Gaebril dismissed it, she snaps partly out of his spell. After a direct confrontation fails, she goes to see Lini and learns that she was forced to exile all her supporters and now only her enemies are left, plus Gaebril has several mistresses inside the palace. She sneaks out with Tallanvor and Lini and heads to The Queen’s Blessing, where she adds Gill and a street punk and his exiled noble follower, Lamgwin and Breane, to her team. They all head for Kore Springs, not knowing Bryne isn’t there.

Fain finds the cursed dagger removed from Mat, and kills an Aes Sedai that catches him. Then Alviarin freezes him, and he realizes she’s a Black. He convinces her he’s on her side, and then flees the city, intending to find Rand again.

It’s not clear why the spell isn’t working on Morgase anymore, except maybe that Gaebril has all the power he can get from it and doesn’t think she’s a threat anymore. Either way, this is a very promising new subplot and meshes with Min’s very nicely. The reveal about Alviarin isn’t much of a surprise, but Fain becoming an active problem again should also lead to some good stuff.

Of all the "evil" characters, I think I like Fain the most. Well. The person who was once Fain. His sense of identity is weird.
