Last time, we had stopped outside of a cave still on Boko. The cave did not exist on my previous exploration of this area, and it appears to be the way forward.

Lenna: I don't remember there
being a cave here...
Bartz: Probably opened up
during one of those quakes.

Bartz: Boko, I think this is
gonna be a little too dangerous for
chocobos. You stay here, okay?

Boko nods

Boko: Kweh!

If I exit the cave at this time, they get back on Boko.

Bartz: Giddyup, Boko!

Inside the cave the music changes to something more appropriate. So this is our first dungeon. Holding down the B button allows dashing, which I will be doing a lot. Encounters include Steel Bats, Stropers, and Iron Claws

Bartz: What's that spring?

Walking over to the pool of water.

(No portrait) This is a recovery spring.
HP and MP restored!
All status ailments removed!
KO'd allies revived!

Bartz jumps back and flexes. A pirate (I assume that's what a sprite with a bandana and eyepatch is), the party sees him ahead of time and hides against a wall. He goes over and presses a skull on the wall. It appears that it's a switch which opens a secret door.

Bartz: Aha! So that's how
you get in!

I walk over to a treasure chest and get a Leather Cap for Galuf. I use the cleaverly hidden switch to go to the next section. The party automatically walks to a doorway which looks lit by sunlight.

Bartz: What's that?

I see a ship sailing into a cove in the mountains.

Bartz: That ship just now...
How was it sailing with the wind
so weak?

Exiting through the door, I'm in a valley surrounded by mountains. This is the first time I've been on the overworld map without a chocobo. Let's see if I can encounter anything. Three goblins appear. I use this opportunity to save.

Re-entering the cave, I proceed in the only possible direction. It leads to an area with Jolly Rogers on the walls. Trying to go forward, I'm almost spotted by a pirate, but Bartz quickly jumps back. Bartz jumps out and back just to be sure he wasn't seen.

Bartz: This is a pirate
hideout... meaning that ship we
saw must've been a pirate ship!
Lenna: I wonder if they would give
us a ride?
Bartz: Um, I think the only ride
they'd be interested in would be a
keel-haul for all three of us.

Lenna looks sad.

Galuf: Yeah... you can't ask a favor
from a pirate! That's why we'll
just sneak on and steal their ship!
Bartz: Whoa! You're pretty
gutsy for an old-timer.

Galuf laughs. I can now walk around freely, there are a couple inaccessible areas because the watch pirates are asleep in front of doors. Talking to one, the pirate get's an animated thought ballon with Zs.

Bartz: Huh... sleeping.

Talking to the other one, same Zs effect.

Pirate: Hrn hum harr... buh?

Bartz panics and ducks behind a wall, the pirate wakes up and looks around, but doesn't see us. There's a skull switch which does something, but the something is in an area I can't see or access. I leave the area on the gang plank, which takes me to the ship.

It appears to be a normal ship with masts, but no sails. There doesn't appear to be anyone on board. Belowdecks is a locked room and a different room wtih another sleeping pirate. Talking to him.

Pirate: Zzz...
Cap'n... fixed the rudder...
... take the helm... (mumble)...
... Syldra'll... zzz...

Ok, I guess I need to take the helm.

Bartz: Yo-ho-ho, and stuff!
Time to cast off!

Bartz goes through some poses.

Galuf: ... Well? "Cast off" means
start sailing, kid.
Bartz: I know that! The wheel
won't even budge. How do you work
this thing?
(Offscreen No Portrait): Try working anything and there'll be the
devil to pay!

Faris walks aboard. Given that we (the player, not any of the characters) last saw Faris at the bow of a ship (in the introduction), that makes some sense.

Faris: Trying to steal my ship, are
you? You've a lot of brass...
... or mayhap you're just lacking in
brains! I'd wager it's the latter.

Lenna: Wait!
I am Princess Lenna of Tycoon.
Please accept my apologies for
attempting to commandeer your
ship.

Bartz and Galuf react in shock.

Bartz: Wha? Princess...
Galuf: ... of Tycoon!?

Lenna: Sir, this is a formal request
from the kingdom of Tycoon.
Please, allow us the use of your
vessel. I must get to the Wind
Shrine- my father is in danger!

Faris laughs.

Faris: Oho, the princess of Tycoon,
here on my ship? I'm sure we could
fetch a good price for this one.
Bartz: Hey! Leave her alone,
you degenerate, lecherous,
piratey... pirate!
Lenna: I beg of you, please...

Lenna suddenly has a pendant which flashes.

Faris: That pendant...!

Faris walks a little and looks worried.

Faris: ... Toss the lot of 'em into
the brig!
Pirates: Aye-aye, Cap'n!

We're now tied up in the locked room from before. There's sound of surf (I'm assuming surf since the wind is weakend).

Galuf: Well, this is a fine
how-do-you-do.
What genius came up with the idea
to steal a pirate ship, anyway?
Bartz: Look in the mirror, Pops.
Galuf: ... Ohh, my aching head!
I can't remember a thing!
Bartz: ... And your amnesia
oh-so-conveniently returns.

Bartz: Still... I can't believe
you're really the princess of
Tycoon, Lenna!
Lenna: I'm sorry... I didn't intend
to keep it a secret.
Bartz: It's not that big a deal.
But, if you're the princess, why
were you goin to the Wind Shrine
all alone?
Lenna: My father is there. He
hadn't been gone long when the
wind slowed to almost nothing...
I just can't shake the feeling that
something terrible is happening.
I slipped out alone to head to the
shrine, but then that meteorite
fell, and... you know the rest.

The lights go out, and we pan to the other room in the ship.

Faris: Why does the princess of
Tycoon have the same pendant as
I do?

Faris turns, and is suddenly wearing a pendant which flashes.

Faris: She said her father's at the
Wind Shrine...

Fade to black, the to the bow of the ship. Faris is standing there by the crew.

Faris: Prepare to cast off, lads.
Set a course for the Wind Shrine.

The pirates seem shocked for some reason. Bartz, Galuf, and Lenna are dragged up from below, still tied in ropes.

Pirate: But Cap'n... What about the
landlubbers?
Faris: Untie 'em.

Shocked looks all around.

Faris: I meant, sometime today!

We're untied and flex.

Lenna: But... why?
Faris: I reconsidered your request.
You can go back into the brig if
you'd rather.

Faris: Pull anchor! We sail for the
Wind Shrine!

Pirates: ...

Faris: Hey! Seomthing wrong with
your ears? I hope I don't have to
repeat myself!

Faris: Well!?
Pirates: Aye... aye-aye, Cap'n!

They get into position, one even climbing into the crow's nest.

Lenna: But the wind has stopped...
How can the ship move?
Faris: Full of curiosity, aren't you,
lass?

Lenna nods

Faris: Syldra!
Come up and say hello!

I giant sea-dragon (sea-serpent?) collared, and attached by chains to the boat surfaces from the water. Syldra cries out, Lenna looks shocked, and Faris laughs.

Faris: Beautiful, isn't she?
Syldra and I were raised together.
We're close as siblings.

Faris: All right, we're off!

I have control of a boat!... Until the end of the cove. We cut back to the closeup of the boat with Faris at the helm.

Pirate: Captain, shall I sail'er to the
Wind Shrine for ye?

I'm prompted yes or no, I pick yes for now, so I can say that I got within sight of the Wind Shrine.

I plan to do more tonight still, but I wanted to get this out here quickly before I forget, and because I was not doing this for over a week.

All, in all this is shaping up to be a good story. I would've rather skipped seeing Faris in the introduction, it would have made it more questionable whether we would get the use of the ship or not.
