Finally it’s the big moment, as Rand is sent back in time to relive key points in Aiel history. The Jenn we’ve heard so much and so little about were a separate group who traveled with Aes Sedai and encouraged the others to not be slaves to tradition. And each vision goes farther back in time, showing that the Aiel Waste used to have water, and they used to have a strict code against killing, with anyone who did it being exiled. In between, he keeps finding himself standing closer to Muradin, Couladin’s brother.
Hello, backstory. It’s a risk to tell the story this way, with a ton of new characters who it’s hard at times to keep straight, but each little vignette is interesting enough that it never quite bogs down. And from that abrupt ending, I would guess we’re not done with it, and I have no idea what the ultimate point will be, but I have hope it’ll be good.
