Chapter 12: Tanchico or the Tower

Aviendha reveals that Amys is Rhuarc’s wife, but for now she wants to go to Tanchico with Elayne and Nynaeve, and suggests Egwene ask another Aiel to lead her there. But then Moiraine arrives, and after revealing that the attack was all to kill Joiya and Amico, she shows Aviendha a letter from the Wise Ones ordering her back, so she’s stuck and is quite unhappy about it. At least Egwene will get to go with her after all.

So we get another big mystery, with what Aviendha’s deal is with going back home. Given that we also learn that romance among the Aiel is female dominant, I’m sure it won’t feel derivative at all of Loial’s story, but that still leaves me with nothing to go on here. And I do look forward to our heading into more uncharted territory with the Aiel Waste.

While it's called the "Aiel Waste", I think it's probably best to think of it as a desert. From the various descriptions given, the Blight is more of a wasteland than the Waste itself.

Oh, and female-dominant cultures are actually pretty common in this series. You already know of four, and there are others.

That is: Aes Sedai, Seafolk, Aiel. What is 4th? Two-Rivers? Andor? No, they are only ruled by womens, not dominated by.
