Elayne stays behind with Rand, and starts putting the moves on him. It goes on for a while, and I really don’t care. Then Gaul (do he and Perrin know each other are here?) announces that the High Lords are there, and she leaves. Unfortunately, it’s replaced by more Upper Class Twits talking about politics, which isn’t much more interesting.
Mat asks Egwene for her advice on what he should do, and she tells him about the magic door. He refuses to touch it, and she makes him promise not to use it without Moiraine’s permission, but now the seed has been planted and we’ll see where it goes.
The chapter’s first half is quite a slog through two equally dull scenarios, but then we get some intriguing setup for Mat’s story, as inevitably something will drive him to use the door. This indicates that things in Tear may seriously break down, and if that happens I just hope some of these boring assholes go down with it.
