Mat arrives in Amirgill, and we spend a very long time just seeing over and over how much it sucks in this city, as refugees from the war keep crowding in so that Morgase has ordered it closed the next day. Mat wins a couple horses with his gambling, and a room in the stables. Which happens to be the same one that Aludra wanders into, having been fired from the fireworks people (as I’ll probably always call them, as making them such Serious Business is still bizarre to me) who are now after her. Mat saves her, and she gives him a bunch of fireworks that will inevitably be used to blow something up. She’s also invented matches, so there’s two Chekhovs Guns.
Aludra’s someone I wasn’t really expecting to see again, and while I still really don’t get the fireworks people, pairing her with Mat results in some good times. She’s probably going to become his love interest eventually, though just like Perrin and Zarine, we’re being eased into it.
