Chapter 27: Tel'aran'rhiod

After a few pages detailing Verin acting weirder than usual and openly asking how they’re doing in public, the time for Egwene in the dreamworld has actually come. First she goes into Perrin’s dream only to almost get killed by Hopper, and then Rand’s, but he naturally thinks this is yet another visit by the Dark One and she can’t convince him otherwise. And then she manages to go to Callandor, where an old woman named Silvie helps her realize it’s protected by a shield of both halves of the Power, so presumably male and female channelers are both needed to get it out.

Silvie wakes Egwene up with a huge dose of pain, and she takes that whole bit as a sign that the Blacks really are in Tear, so they should sneak out of the city and go there. Except Elayne knows she has to let her mother know she’ll be leaving this time, which is a problem since Siuan doesn’t know they’ve told her anything. But Nynaeve figures out someone who’ll definitely help them; I’m guessing Mat.

After all that buildup, the Dreaming naturally isn’t quite as big a deal as I was hoping for, but we’re also left with the promise that this isn’t the last time Egwene will use it. And the bits with Perrin and Rand are pretty cool in their own right. Plus, new road trip! Which will undoubtedly see them running into Rand, who’s also heading for the sword.

Dreaming is a big thing throughout the entire series. More than once does something climactic happen within that world, including in the most recent book.

Fortuona! Maighdin! Mierin!

(Or on a different note, who can identify what these three have in common? Use hottip markup to answer.)
