Chapter 12: The Amyrlin Seat

Another one that’s mostly reminding us of what’s already happened, but this time it gets a real boost from giving us the book’s first new viewpoint character: Siuan, as Verin reports to her. There’s not much we didn’t already know, but we do get a deeper look at how much she loves fish-related metaphors. New stuff is that Rand declaring himself the Dragon caused those two false ones to lose their power, and they’ll need to debate long and hard over what to do with the Horn. Um, maybe someone could tell Illian about it now?

Again there’s little to say, as it’s mostly exposition, but I do look forward to seeing more from someone with such authority, who’ll have a view of the big picture that none of the other viewpoint characters can match.

Don't worry about the Horn. To my knowledge, there is nothing significant about Illian which says it must go there, and it wont be a plot point again for quite some time.

You don't want Illian to have the Horn until after book seven, trust me.

Heh. I can't believe I've never thought of that. The Horn getting taken to Tar Valon was rather fortunate. But Moraine doesn't learn what's going on behind the scenes in Ilian until she's there, so I'm still uncertain as to why...

Well, Matrim blew the Horn. If anyone important enough (eg Moiraine) knew about that (I can't remember how many people know he blew the Horn), that would be a good reason to take it to the Tower.

Maybe some spoilers? Probably not, though.

Also, considering that Darkfriends and Shadowspawn are looking for it, it's probably decided it would be safer in Tar Valon. Hell, they never really stop searching for the Horn, just not as hard. I think I can come up with a few other minor reasons, such as Mat needing to get to Tar Valon as fast as possible anyway due to the dagger of Shadar Logoth. Plus, if I recall, some people decided that not many others should even know the Horn has been found, probably for reasons of safety.
