Er, you know that book I was trying to comment on...you know, that one I started, like, last month? Well. Um. I...

sorry guys. I kinda forgot about this installment...hehe...and I returned it...but I'll give an overall overview of it :D

Not that anyone cares, but...

First off, the characters were okay. There were some who really shone, like our totally awesome protagonist Avery.

Avery's a great character because he's always trying to help people out. And he doesn't even sound like he's coming on too strong- I can actually BELIEVE that a boy his age would actually do stuff like that. And you know what? I'll even throw him a bone and believe that he doesn't even get boners. But only because he's so AWESOME and 'cuz I don't see a lot of heroes in YA literature who get boners either.

He's a bit like Percy from Percy Jackson- except better. Yes, Percy was a wonderful character who I could totally relate to. But you know what? He was a Gary Stu or Marty Stu or whatever you call them. I mean, besides his Fatal Flaw of having a Chronic Hero Syndrome, what other flaws did he have? He's a chick magnet, he has an awesome attitude, he's smart enough to not be monster chow, and he's badass enough to know how to use a sword (I 'm sure Annabell can attest to that XD). BUT WHERE'S HIS FLAW. WHO CARES IF HE HAS CHRONIC HERO SYNDROME- IT DOESN'T REALLY GET HIM INTO ANY BAD SITUATIONS, DOES IT? SURE, IT'S TREATED AS A FLAW IN-UNIVERSE BUT WHEN DOES IT EVER ACTUALLY IMPACT HIM SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!

But Avery's flaws actually matter- and are actually flaws that can be considered flaws. He has the flaw of being too reckless and too judgmental. By being reckless, he's landed himself in some trouble with the police and got sent to a juvie. By being judgmental, he's unfairly alienated one of the members of the group- and was subsequently taught a lesson.

What's even better is that he learns to develop into a more reasonable, sensible lad who can help make the world into a better place.

The supporting cast were all right. His love interest was...well, she was a Badass Action Girl. Okay. And she actually had a personality beyond 'badass action girl'. Oh, and she also had wonderful Character Development! Yeah!

Ooh! And my personal favorite- DARLA. Oh, God, she was the PERFECT SUPPORTING CHARACTER. And, and- get this- SHE WAS SO FREAKING ADORKABLE. And her backstory was okay, kind of a stereotypical Intelligence = Isolation past...at least she had a personality too. And character development.

The others, well...I didn't really care. Heh. Yup. BUT AVEYR AND DARLA OMFG WERE SO FREAKING AWESOME I WANT THEIR BABIES. Well, between Darla and me...not sure how that's gonna happen, but whatever.

For the plot...well...um, it was all right. It didn't strike me as anything too revolutionary, nothing too fancy...heck, I just read to see how Avery would finally overcome his original dilemma of not being able to do good in the world with his powers.

The narrative was fine. The prose was palatable. It wasn't beautiful, it wasn't fancy, it wasn't groundbreaking- BUT IT WAS BELIEVABLE. HA. So there. The voice was wicked likable and didn't overdose on the snark. Sure, it had its moments- but whatever.

Sorry for not being to commentate on more chapters. Perhaps in another lifetime, one where I'm not a procrastinator.
