Technical Difficulties are the Worst Difficulties (a.k.a. Attack of the Hardware Failures)

Hello everyone... Remember that promised ending...? Well... If you were expecting a long and detailed chronicle about Jabo's castle... Well... The good news is that I wrote it... The bad news is that my computer's hard drive and motherboard both failed on me. Meaning that the Update 33 that would have been is now completely dead.

As such, I can give a few pointers based upon what I encountered... But obviously, play-by-plays are long gone at this point. We wound up stopping *right* in front of the fight with Jabo, and what I presume will be the last battle. Barring a kinda sad scene and rather tough boss battle with Magaru (you thought that we were done with him, didn't you?), there's not that much that you missed here.

Takeaway Points - Memory Recovery Edition:

  • You can apparently get EXP and G for enemies that you defeat even if you flee from battle... As long as you KOed something. Why this took 80 hours to figure out still surprises me.
  • Jabo's castle as a dungeon is rather long... And kinda brutal relative to everything you've run into so far in-game (Oliver had an unfortunate tendency of getting KOed every so often due to having the defense and HP stats of a wet paper bag). You should fight the following imagines, no questions asked before attempting to flee:
    • Black fish-dog things: They bite hard, and LOVE to spam what appears to be an equivalent of Mamudo. They are weak to physical hits.
    • Horned red-armored skeleton fighters: These things can do as much as 100 HP damage in a turn thanks to blade spam. I never found their weakness, but simply throwing the toughest spells I had at them seemed to work.
    • Red-armored chicken elephants: They love to gang up on you, and can deal between 40-60 HP damage per turn. They die fast to thunder magic.
  • There's a section in which you will need to manipulate a set of weights to move through a set of 3 doors. The center is opened with Fireball, left and right are opened via using the 33rd spell in the book, which this video called "gravity" on the left and right sides of the weights respectively.
  • The fight with Magaru (he gets a fairly freaky One Winged Angel form) can be a legitimately tough one if you're underprepared, mostly because he is REALLY fast and hits hard. Keep your HP above 60 at all costs, or else risk being outsped and KOed by Magaru (which happened to Oliver).
    • Magaru also has this nasty charge attack that will sweep into the first target it finds in a row. Put your toughest party member at the first row and DEFEND. Because this one REALLY hurts to eat without mitigating its damage (was taking something on the order of 80 damage each from Rucci and Kree on the middle row).
    • Magaru also has a tendency to occasionally chuck rocks at everyone without warning for 40 damage each.
    • Magaru's weakness is thunder spells. Which unfortunately for Oliver in my run, was sucking up 16 MP at a time.
    • As such, have SOME way of replenishing HP and MP. This is a fairly long fight, but still manageable if you are vigilant.
  • Oliver has traded places with Totoko for "squishy wizard". If you're going to be using him, be prepared to heal, a LOT.
  • Rucci has since been outpaced by other Familiars in the "hard hitting wall" category. Kree right now is giving him a strong run for his money.
  • If you see a save point. USE it. The dungeons and boss fights WILL severely deplete your health and MP in between them.
  • Meta, but still worth mentioning: Back up your computer periodically! >.<

Stats:

  • Totoko: Level 37: 465 HP / 317 MP (He is wearing items to pull this one off. Has a +250 HP and +150 MP boost, and remember, Oliver was KOed in fight.)
  • Rucci: Level 39: 282 HP / 153 MP
  • Kree: Level 38: 211 HP / 126 MP*
  • G: 176389. (We fought a lot of Familiars.)
  • Play Time: 85 hours, 18 minutes, 08 seconds.

Next time, we will end this saga... As well have a bit of a postmortem of this game and the whole process of liveblogging it.
