Meetin' Mercenaries.

In which we also see Guinevere, because this chapter is The Princess of Bern!

Starts us off seeing Miledy (who looks kinda like Minerva to me) berating a soldier for losing Guinevere. She flies off back to Bern, and BAM, suddenly they actually have Guinevere captive to sell her to Bern's enemies. Luckily, her servant has escaped...

Cut to Roy's group, and we seem to have not yet met the Mercenaries. Instead, a cleric runs into Roy and after discovering he is from Lycia, asks him for help. She is Guinevere's servant, and wants Roy to help rescue the princess from the lord of the castle, Rude (what a fitting name), who has captured her when she went to meet with the Lycian Alliance. After some discussion and being discovered, we enter the chapter proper.

Ellen is a cleric, which is nice, although with 1 magic, she ain't healing much. Her speed and luck should help her dodge, but 0 defense and 16 health is gonna make her really frail. Still, a healer is always nice to have around. Merlinus is pretty fragile too, but he is mostly unimportant, so I won't really pay him much heed, stat-wise.

Alan visits the nearby village and gets an Armorslayer, while Bors prepares to go to the Armory to make himself useful. Marcus picks up some vulneraries at the nearby shop (the shop tune is a lot less pleasant in this game, I find), and then Lance javelins a soldier while Wolt softens up on for Roy to take out.

After turn one (where a whole bunch of foes are trudging along on the other side of the mountain), the mercenaries we were going to meet appear! Lets break 'em down. Thany, the first pegasus knight, is basically what you'd expect. Fast, low strength, and decent skill, though 6 defense looks pretty good for a level 1 pegasus knight. Ward is just full of strength, but that skill makes me doubtful of how much he's going to hit, and his speed isn't too good either. Lot looks better, with all around superior stats across the board, and only one level more, at 3. Dieck is level 5, and looks awesome. As fast as Thany, as stronger than Ward, quite good skill, and decent defense and health.

Dieck then plants himself on a fort, with Lot joining him soon, while Thany flies into the nearby mountains to go grab Ellen. Roy and Lance take down a fighter, with Roy getting a nice level up, and Lance waits on a fort to take out two more fighters. Enemies throw themselves at Dieck and get smashed, while Roy and Lance pick off a couple a fighters. Ward and Dieck then stave off the rest of the foes, while Roy and Lance catch up, and Thany brings Ellen over to do some healing. She fixes up Ward and Roy, and then Roy provokes a fighter after having a nice little conversation with Dieck. Roy takes out his foe, and Lance runs up to draw out a mercenary, but runs to far, and if not for a surprisingly fortuitous 84 missing, he would have gotten his lance holding self an axe to the face. He then misses again with a Javelin, and Dieck finishes the enemy, while Roy steps forward to take out the fighter. Bors buys up some iron swords and lances, as well as a couple of javelins in the meantime. The fighter decides not to attack me, so Roy goes to him and stabs him, taking him out the next turn and dodging the nearby archer as well. The archer is taken out swiftly by Roy and Lot, and then only Rude is left.

Roy, annoyed by the unkind knight, decides to teach him some etiquette with the business edge of his Rapier, stabbing him, dodging his counter, and then nailing him with a critical. Lance then pulls him out of there and lets Lot do the rest. Then castle seizing occurs.

Now we find Guinevere in the basement, and she is thankful for our help. She reveals her name to the cast with a load of fanfare and a fair bit of shock from Roy (I can see why, given she was being held captive by Bern soldiers), although FE 7 spoiled me to that little factoid. Discussion ensues, and Roy decides that the lot of them will be visiting Hector as scheduled, and hopefully find a peaceful solution to the war.

Next time, it seems we will meet with Hector and discuss how this war is going to go. Something tells me these peace talks aren't going to stop Zephiel, though...

Heh, it's too late for me to say, but it's always a good idea to use both Alan and Lance in the first few chapters, just in case one of them gets screwed in stats. Sounds like Lance is doing fine, though.

Also, a support with Roy benefits either cavalier, as it is fast, and mitigates their problems.

And ditching Bors was a good move :P I wasn't so wise the first time I played this game...

Roy can support the cavaliers? That'll be helpful. Lance is doing fine so far, although I worry he might get strength screwed if I'm unlucky.

Good to know my decision to avoid Bors was good then. Hopefully I'll get a unit with good defense later on, but at least the units I've got are decent at dodging.
