Lundgren always proves a surprising challenge.

He's one of my favorite bosses, since even with a small, powerful party, he proves a decent challenge and generally requires a bit of teamwork and strategic weapon use to defeat.

Chapter 10 - The Distant Plains: Finished.

Base: After looking over everyone's stuff, I don't do much else, so we just head out straight away.

Stats: Seeing as this is the end of Lyn mode, here are everyone's stats as of just before Lundgren's defeat:

  • Lyn: Level 12 Lord - 23 hp, 8 str (after this chapters energy ring), 14 skill, 16 spd, 13 luck, 5 def, 5 res.

  • Florina: Level 10 pegasus knight - 22 hp, 9 str, 11 skill, 18 spd, 13 luck, 4 def, 6 res

  • Wil: Level 10 archer - 26 hp, 10 str, 10 skill, 10 spd, 7 luck, 7 def, 0 res

  • Lucius: Level 6 Monk - 27 hp (due to an angelic robe), 10 mag, 7 skill, 11 spd, 4 luck, 2 def, 7 res.

With that finished, we're off!

Lyn, Wil, & Lucius: Head around the river, luring out and smashing the foes who approached along the path. They continue along the path and cross through the forest near the village, meeting up with Florina and fighting off the cavalier reinforcements while Florina heals up. With Florina alongside them, they then approach the castle. Before attacking however, Wil goes shopping, purchasing a steel bow and a heavy spear from the armory.

Florina: Flew over the mountain and river, entering the range of two mercenaries and killing them, while following up by taking down their archer. The rain comes, and she slowly makes her way to the dark mage near the village while the others trudge toward the forest. She lures out and kills the dark mage, and then finishes off the approaching bandit as well, before the others catch up and she flies back to get healed. Together with the others, she heads towards castle Caelin, flying over the river to buy Lucius another light tome just in case while Wil does his own shopping.

Lundgren: Took a combined effort from Lyn, Lucius, and Wil to defeat (Florina couldn't attack him directly since his silver lance would one shot her, and she couldn't hurt him with her javelin). Wil fired on him twice with his steel bow but missed both times, Lucius blasted him for two rounds with his lightning tomes (missing once out of four shots), and Lyn used the Lancereaver to slowly but surely whittle him to low health, before she equipped the Mani Katti and allowed him to attack first. She got hit, but struck once with the Mani Katti and finished the battle with a critical hit.

Vs Lundgren: Lyndis' Legion approached Castle Caelin, where Lungren stood resolute at the gate, as though he were a brave knight fending off invasion.

"This is my realm, and you've entered without my permission. You will not leave these lands alive!"

Drawing a Lancereaver, Lyn approaches Lundgren directly. Disgust contorts Lundgren's features as he readies his own lance and addresses the girl.

"So you're the girl claiming kinship with my brother!"

"You'll play this farce to the end, won't you Lundgren?"

"The royal house of Caelin has no need of a Sacaen mongrel! I'll put an end to this foolishness here and now!"

"To further your own black ambitions, you've harmed my grandfather and the very land you ought to serve. I have neither pity nor mercy for you. Lundgren! Prepare yourself!"

"Whelp!"

Lyn charges the knight, sidestepping the lance and bracing her left hand against the wide edge of the lancereaver to force aside her uncle's lance as he thrusts the weapon toward her. She strikes at the chinks in the armor, but the wide edge prevents any serious wounds, and she only succeeds at glancing blows to his arm and chest. He pulls back his lance, swinging it horizontally while she was striking, and forcing her to pull back and block. She braces herself against the ground, trying to get under the lance, but feels herself being lifted by the force of the strike, unable to move out of the way. A glowing bolt strikes Lundgren in the arm, and she feels the force pull back from the strike as Lundgren retracts his arm in pain. An arrow flies toward him just as another bolt of light does, but he sidesteps the bolt and positions himself so that the arrow harmlessly strikes his pauldron.

Lyn attacks again, aiming low this time, at Lundgren's legs. Though the strikes are shallow, she successfully wounds him enough to crumple him beneath the weight of his armor. From his kneeling position, Lundgren thrust his lance once more at her, and Lyn is forced to dodge, the close proximity preventing a parry. another dagger of light strikes at Lundgren, connecting squarely with his chest, though doing little to further damage him. Lundgren, with strength born of hate, shakily ascends to his feet as Lyn sheaths the lancereaver and draws the Mani Katti, preparing to put a decisive end to the battle. They stare each other down for a few moments, guessing at what the other will do. Lundgren thrusts his lance at her again, and without her lancereaver, she is forced to dodge the strike, leaping to the left, only to find the lance swinging at her legs as she lands. She falls hard upon the rain-soaked ground, and quickly tries to pick herself up. She sees a thrust coming towards her head, and falls flat to the ground, as the lance rakes across her back. An arrow whistles toward the general before he can move in for the finishing blow, and he pulls his head back to avoid the projectile, only for a bolt of light to strike the back of his head. The blow topples him forward, and he lands upon his knees, bracing himself against his lance to keep himself from falling over. A blur of motion rises from the ground in front of him as Lyn swings her blade up and cuts loose Lundgren's helm. She rises to her feet, shaky from the pain, as blood drips from her back, joining the rain in pooling upon the ground. She regains her balance and leaps at Lundgren, swinging her blade horizontally, the thin sword smoothly tearing through the usurpers throat beneath the disheveled helm.

Afterwards: Reissman leads Lyn to meet her grandfather, and they have a loving reunion, free of Lundgren's meddling. Lyn informs her grandfather that up until the attack, her parents had lived happily, and Hausen is relieved, feeling he can now die happy. Lyn pleads with her grandfather not to give up to the poison, assuring him that she is with him now, and he can survive, for he has much living he still must do. Lyn explains that she will be staying in Caelin for now, so as to reacquaint with her grandfather while he heals, and Florina says she has been accepted into house Caelin's service. Wil also reveals he aims to stay, and will send word to his family of his decision later.

Up Next: We continue on to Eliwood mode (because this rom is new, and as such I can't play the more entertaining Hector mode).
