Talking some crap about how Katarina "wrestled away from her control" and then sending her horde of mind-shattered orphans after us. The fuck, woman?
Chapter 20x - Depth of the Abyss: Finished.
Base: Conversations to be had are Robert and Lyra (3), where Lyra explains that she feels she has been too focused on gaining strength, and not on what she plans to do once peace has been achieved, as Marth dreams she of. Robert understands her point of view, and she asks him for assistance in treating a wounded horse she had found earlier. Next is Sheema and Lyra (2), where Sheema looks for her doll, and has it returned by Lyra. She explains that it is a memento of her mother, and feels if anyone found out, she would lose her dignity as princess of Gra, and so she asks Lyra to forget about the whole incident. Wolf and Lyra (1) follows, wherein Lyra introduces herself to him, and notes the skills she heard he possessed in the previous war. He states that he will not be surpassed as a knight if it is within his power, and that the power of the Wolfguard is not his alone; it belongs to Sedgar, Reshea, Vyland, and most of all, Hardin, for they have all lent their strength to it. How's everyone grants us a strength potion, a glass sword, and 24 experience for Sheema. Inventory wise, not much happens yet, since there are only the snipers and Warren going along, and they are well equipped to handle any threat.
Marth: Sneaks through the dark after any foes are cleared out in order to grab the treasure, and then seizes a bit after that.
Party: Pushes through the abyss, laying to rest all of the assassins one by one as they slowly advance towards their target. Once they enter Eremiah's range, they weather a few meteor blasts, and eventually reach the throne of the compound.
Eremiah: Defeated by Lyra, who took a Thoron strike before putting down the mad woman with a critical hit, and ending her ring of assassins once and for all.
Afterwards: Jagen reveals that, according to some villagers, Eremiah was a kind bishop who took in many war orphans, but after the war led to her orphanage being burnt down and all the children killed, she changed. Marth finds her fate tragic, though not a justification for her sins, and the party moves on. Gharnef is marginally annoyed by her passing, but thanks her in the end for kidnapping the clerics, and congratulates himself for putting the spell on her. Gharnef reveals she had been wracked by grief over the children's deaths, wondering how she could have saved them, and Gharnef bent her will, convincing her that they needed to be made stronger. The methods to do so left them twisted, but they were strong enough to match many a skilled soldier, and thus survived. Gharnef mocks her hypocrisy and insults Marth as well, mocking how she tortured the children and smiled through their suffering. Eremiah is once again left to an endless despair, but Gharnef promises her that the grief she feels now is nothing, for he shall call down a greater terror upon the world than any she could possibly dream of.
Man, fuck Gharnef. He's like Manfloy in this, just an unapologetic dick for damn near no reason beyond the whole "dark god revival" deal he has going on.
Up Next: Wyvern's Dale, where we shall face down dragons once more.
