Alright, beginning of Sword of Seals!

20 years into the future of Elibe, after Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn defeated Nergal and the Dragon, Zephiel (who used to be such a nice boy...) prepares to lay waste to the rest of the continent with his enormous army.

This run is going to be written a bit differently than usual. Since I haven't played this game before, I'm not familiar with the characters, and thus there likely won't be much character related stuff, like the VS sections or anything. Instead, since this game is known to be fairly tricky and mean, I'll simply be narrating the gameplay and some story stuff as I go through the chapters.

Okay then, now Dawn of Destiny will begin!

Bandits have attacked Pherae! Are Roy and pals bad enough dudes to beat the bandits and save the Marquess?

Okay, seriously though, that is a lot of bandits. Let's take a look at who we have so far. Roy, who I've heard less than pleasant things about as a unit, but he doesn't look too bad right now. And there are our Christmas knights, Alan and Lance; the latter looks pretty good, although Alan seems a bit lacking. Bors is... ew. Those bases make me sad, outside of the expected high defense. Wolt is lacking but doesn't seem terrible, and the years do not seem like they've been too kind to Marcus, though he will likely save my tail if a really ugly situation rears its head, thanks to that silver lance of his

Now, onto the chapter! Gonna try to limit the early game units that I use, so that I don't have a huge group by the time some of the cool later characters show up, but Roy and Lance should be able to take these mooks by themselves. Had Alan give Lance his stuff, and Marcus gave Roy an iron sword so he doesn't waste his rapier, and then parked himself off to the side, in case anything went wrong. Roy waited on top of the bend and took out a mook while Lance drew most of the first wave to him, smashing them. Roy joined him next turn, and they pretty much mopped up the incoming people, while Marcus went to the village and got us 5000 gold! Roy and Lance went over to some trees and took out a pair of fighters, before going for Damas. They stuck to any nearby forest, and provoked Damas' lackeys, taking them all out with no hassle.

The two of them healed themselves since Damas actually looks pretty threatening with that steel axe, and then Lance waited in front of him. A couple of turns later, and Damas was down. Roy then conquered (odd choice by the translators) Castle Pherae, and saved the day!

A nice little reunion. Glad to see Eliwood not dead, but less glad to hear Lilina won't be able to join us, though at least we have Merlinus. Hopefully that means an early convoy, which is always nice. Next time, we meet some mercenaries!

Marcus is absolutely essential in Hard Mode, not as much in normal.

Both times Alan turned out better than Lance for me and then was himself outmatched by one of the best prepromotes ever.

This game hates knights and I commend you if you manage to use Bors or the other two for long, although they get a triangle attack which is reason enough I'll probably try to train them seriously next time.

Merlinus, unlike the sequel, has absolutely no reason to be brought on the map once you can ditch him, so I suggest doing so (chapter 6 I think).

I know you want to do a blind run but I highly recommend looking up the gaiden chapter requirements since without reaching all 8 you'll miss, in addition to them, two chapters and the best ending, not to mention otherwise you'll feel like "What? That's it?" since it cuts off kind of abruptly.

You'll usually know if you'll miss the gaiden requirements though. Chapter 12's has a soldier talk about sealing off the cave for Armads and Chapter 14's Fog will clear up.

You probably won't miss 8 if you're used to keeping everyone alive. 16's is probably one of the more difficult chapters to unlock because it involves making sure an enemy does not die.

I would also say that Wendy is a lot like Amelia except for the fact that she has to contend with a lot of axe users in the chapters after she joins you so she's a little harder to train, but better than any of the other possible Generals.

Why doesn't Merlinus need to be brought? Can I just send stuff to the convoy so long as I have him?

I will be keeping an eye on the Gaiden requirements, since I want all of the chapters.

As for the units, I've heard of Marcus' usefulness, and I'll likely keep him handy until my units get some really good stats, and I've also heard of the knight triangle attack, although I wasn't aware all of the knights were as bad as Bors.

Yup which makes him infinitely better than FE 7 Merlinus.

Well, I hear Wendy grows up to be the best, but she starts at level 1 with bad bases and the next several chapters of the game are axe country. The triangle attack could probably help with that which is why she's not completely hopeless.

Barth is a good wall when you get him. I didn't try to seriously use him so maybe he turns out decent. I dunno, he just didn't interest me.

Barth is basically garbage. Yes he'll get HP every level up and Strength is rather likely, Defense pretty average, but everything else is garbage. 20% Speed, 20% Luck, 25% Skill, 2% Res. He won't dodge anything, ever, and if he gets Defense screwed, well, crap.

2% res growth? That's amusingly specific. Constantly being able to send stuff to the convoy will be nice. Wendy is the best of the lot, eh? Might try to use her, although if axes are everywhere, I doubt I'll have the patience.
