The Monster known as Bertram!

He's a fairly tough foe, and he's legitimately eerie when you fight him, since the music, his appearance, and his lines all fit together quite well.

Chapter 26 - Clash!: Finished.

Party: Everyone pretty much stuck together, some branching off to do their own thing really quickly before rejoining the pack. Ike and Jill once again got the lions share of kills due to being lowest in level, but they've pretty much caught up now. Ike, Soren, Mist and Jill took on the main group of warriors northwest of the starting position, while Stefan and Mordecai intercepted the Swordmasters coming at them from the west. After those groups were cleared up, Jill took off to hunt down the paladins coming from the north, and Ike, Soren, Stefan, Mist, and Mordecai took down the five man platoon of foes approaching. Jill went for the Meteor Sage once the Paladins had been dealt with, and the rest of the group dealt with the incoming Feral Ones. Ike then slowly but surely lured out the Wyvern Lords and Snipers while Jill went after the Sleep Bishop. Once they had fallen, the final line of foes came in, and everyone regrouped to charge upon their position. Everyone took down foe after foe until there were none left, and Mordecai got healed and fought with the boss. As this was going on, reinforcements came in a few times, and anyone not providing Support for Mordecai took them down while the battle went on. After Bertram finally fell, Ike seized for the victory.

Bertram: Mordecai fought with him, and the fight was mostly traded blows for 4 turns before Mordecai got the chance to kill him.

VS Bertram: "...I will eat...your ssssoul..."

A chill ran up Mordecai's spine as the man spoke those words.

Something seems... wrong. This man is mad, but beyond the scent of metal, I can also smell a deep scent of blood. He smells much like a Feral One...

Mordecai quickly ran to the side, charging forward and ramming his shoulder into the man. The blow nearly pushed the man off, but he seemed to ignore the pain and pulled himself back up, raising his sword into the air as he did so. Mordecai suddenly felt a rush of fatigue, and noticed a bright yellow light floating off of him and into the mans blade.

Magic? So this was like the wind making sword that Mist used? This will be much harder than I thought.

Mordecai circled the horse and rider, and when the man raised his blade again, Mordecai charged, ignoring the tugging sensation. He jumped up and slammed into the man once again, this time following through with a swipe at the mans breastplate, dislodging it as he landed to the right of the man.

His foe remained stoic to the pain, only giving a tug on the reins and turning himself to face Mordecai, growling like a rabid animal all the while. Mist ran forward, and after restoring Mordecai's energy with the soothing light of a Heal staff, was promptly ignored by the deranged, single-minded predator before them. As more light exploded outwards, Mordecai again felt his energy being drained, but he cringed and waited for the light to reach the mans blade. As it brought the stolen energy back, the sword was stuck waiting for its prize, and Mordecai used that time to make the decisive blow.

He jumped, digging his claws into the openings in the mans offset armor, and tore downwards, finally succeeding at removing the rider from his mount. He felt a sharp pain in his side as the man slashed him once they hit the ground, but he ignored it, roaring fiercely to scare off the undirected horse, and then turning to the man currently slashing at him from beneath his feet. He slid one paw over his sword arm, and used the other paw to smack the mans head against the ground, knocking him unconscious. Mordecai kept the man pinned until the others came, and then allowed them to deal with the unsettling man.
