A New Definition to the term "Book Burning".

So yeah, Soren enjoys his new reading material.

Chapter 7 - Shades Of Evil: Finished

Ike & Soren: They stuck together this time, Ike leading and taking out the main foes while Soren hung back, biding his time and saving the last four charges of his book. After Petrine appeared, and Greil decided to go fight her, Ike and Soren then took out the reinforcements, where Soren got his new tome, this one of Fire. After they cut their way up to where Shinon and Gatrie were holding out, Soren blasted every enemy harassing Gatrie, and then went off to kill Balmer.

Balmer: Fought with Soren, and didn't actually deal any damage. Soren's Resistance was too high, and Balmer was stuck doing zero damage with Elfire, while Soren was dealing four damage (and doubling) with a measly Fire tome. It was pretty one sided.

VS Balmer: "Hmph. You wretches...You're not worthy of General Petrine's attention. I will roast your bones and present them to her as a trophy!"

Well at least he was confident.

The man quickly raised his arm, reciting the incantation for the Elfire tome he wielded, and then letting loose an enormous sphere of flames that engulfed the child. As the wall of flames lowered, Soren stepped out of them, completely unscathed, much to the mans apparent shock. Soren didn't understand why he seemed so surprised. When you lack any actual talent for magic, you shouldn't expect to defeat a foe who is your superior in every way.

Soren countered with two smaller balls of flame, having memorized the Fire tome incantation easily enough, and only needing the book for the spells charges. The blasts struck the mans chest, sending him sprawling on the ground, though only partially burned. He rose, and shot another wall of flame down towards Soren, though he simply ignored it as he did the previous one, creating his own counterspells in the meanwhile. The first shot struck the man in the leg, and Soren saw the perfect opportunity to fit in a third strike, the Adept scroll he studied with the other mercenary group finally showing it's use in a real fight. The man was consumed by an onslaught of flame soon after, and Soren followed the rest of the group as they went to look for Greil.

Up Next: A lot of plot stuff leaves the group disheveled, and even what seems safe may not be so, when dealing with people as determined as Daein soldiers...
