ThatOneBoss #7 - Trumpeter

Hard Mode Video Guide

One of my favorite fights, though simple if you an think outside the box. If you successfully anticipate the melodies and regulate party member health accordingly, you will win every time. Trumpeter isn't actually hard, people just have trouble because the required strategy is very unorthodox.

Like Aciel, Trumpeter isn't much worse if you're playing on Hard Mode, given that the biggest threat isn't from his straight damage. Although, you may want to use Rakukaja just to be safe if you're on Hard. Actually, you'll want to take at least some damage in this fight, as, if you don't, you will lose, due to the way the melodies work.

The Melodies come every 8 press turns Trumpeter takes. They also work on percentages, not raw numbers. You will need to count turns and calculate percentages the whole way, as the melodies target the lowest health percentage. This means keeping track of how much damage you've done to Trumpeter, lest he be healed by Holy Melody. When he does use the Holy Melody(not counting the one at the start), you'll want him to be around half health, or 5500/11000(with someone in your party below half of theirs, obviously), then burn his health down as quickly as possible so that he doesn't get to use another. If he does, he'll probably succeed in healing himself.

Evil Melody is a threat too, but as it's easy to keep the Demi-fiend in good health, it's not the real problem. However, you won't want to heal the whole party, or it'll target someone at random. However, you'll find it useful as a gauge since it means his next melody will be Holy Melody. Unlike Holy Melody though, it doesn't seem to ever target Trumpeter himself. It merely targets the lowest percentage among the party.

Do NOT use Sukukaja whatever you do, even Debilitate is pushing it, but is acceptable because it reduces press turns needed for debuffing. Dodging his attacks makes it difficult to regulate your party's health, which is suicide in this fight. You can get lucky and win anyway, but don't chance it.

Also be advised that he has both Dekunda and Dekaja, and although he uses them infrequently, he'll use them both at once every blue moon.

It helps to have Endure in this fight, because that will allow the Demi-Fiend to survive the Evil Melody, albeit with one HP.
