Hello people. Today, we're have to get over Mount Hobs, but we need a Fire spell to get past it. We can't do anything else though, so we may as well check it out.

Mount Hobs is a bit northeast of the Antlion's Den, so we have to hovercraft our way over there. The opening is indeed blocked with ice.

Rosa: Rydia, can you try casting the Fire spell?

Rydia: ...

Edward: What's wrong?

Rosa: Give it a try. I know you can do it.

Rydia: ...No.

Rosa: ?

Rydia: I... I hate fire.

Cecil: That's right... Her village was destroyed by fire when...

Damn it Cecil, this is all your fault!

Rosa: Rydia, you're the only one who can melt this ice.

You know, I think I have some Fire casting items in the inventory at the moment.

Rosa: If we can't get to Fabul, more people will be in danger. Please, Rydia.

Edward: Rydia... You've helped me, you've helped Cecil, you've helped Rosa... You have the power to help many more people. Please, we need your strength and courage.

Rydia approaches the wall.

Rydia: Fire!

She melts it.

Rydia has learned Fire.

Edward: Rydia, that was incredible.

Rydia: Hee hee!

Rosa: I knew you could do it!

Cecil: Thank you, Rydia.

Good thing Rydia learned Fire too, because there's quite a few undead on this mountain.

Oddly enough, there's a save point in the second screen. This place isn't very long. 5 minutes and we're already at the summit.

Cecil: What's going on?

A fight is going on at the top.

Edward: That garb... He's one of Fabul's monks.

Monk: Hyah!

Said monk proceeds to KICK ASS! The battle screen shows up, calling him Yang, and he proceeds to Kick the monsters to death. Afterwards, there's just a Bomb left.

Edward: Good grief! That's a Bomb!

I just said that.

Rydia: Let's help him!

Before the battle starts, let's look at our new party member. Yang Fang Leiden is a Monk. He can equip Claws, which change the elemental/status ailment effects of his attack, which stays the same for nearly to entire game. He can equip two as well, although he only has one right now. As for abilities, there's Kick, which attacks all enemies, but is a bit weak, Focus, which deals double damage after a short charge, and Brace, which makes him Defend with large damage reduction. The guys A really powerful tank. He starts at level 10.

Now for the boss. The Mom Bomb is weak to Dark, which means Cecil does quite a bit of damage, but is otherwise just mainly a hard hitter. Nothing special. Cecil and Edward attack, Yang uses Focus, Rydia uses Chocobo Kick and Rosa heals.

After a while, however, the Mom Bomb becomes huge.

IT'S GONNA EXPLODE!

Edward Hides, Yang Braces and everyone else Defends. The Mom Bomb uses Massive Explosion and deals damage to everyone, but splits into 3 Bombs and 3 Gray Bombs. Yang Kicks, Rosa heals the damage done, Rydia casts anything (no Ice weaknesses here, unlike other FF games) and Cecil and Edward just Attack.

Rosa levels up and learns Raise after the battle.

Monk: You have my gratitude. Yang is my name. I am a high monk of Fabul. I came here to train with my men, but all were killed by a swarm of marauding monsters... They were Fabul's finest monks...

Cecil: My name is Cecil. We bring urgent news to Fabul.

Rosa: A villain named Golbez is using Baron's forces to seize the world's Crystals.

Yang: So he covets our Wind Crystal as well...

Probably. Yang realises that all the monks at home are weak, and we figure that Golbez sent monsters after Yang to get rid of Fabul's only defence. So they must be on their way.

Cecil: We will fight with you, so let us hurry!

Yang: I am grateful. However, this matter does not concern you.

Cecil: But it does.

Edward: ...For I am the prince of Damcyan.

Cecil: And Rosa and I are citizens of Baron. This girl is one of the victims of our kingdom's recent attacks... which I personally led.

Rydia: ...It's true.

Yang: I see... Then I humbly accept your assistance.

I'm sure the right reaction here is "Why should I trust someone who led one of Baron's attacks?"

High Monk Yang has joined the party.

And after that, we're already right near the exit. On the way out, Rosa learns Protect.

And we're out already. That was short. Next time, we head for Fabul.

Ah, yes. Yang is one of the powerhouses of the game, and I preferred bringing him to the Final Dungeon over Edge.

Yang's a total Bad Ass. Totally worth being in any party.

Yang is my favorite FFIV non-spellcaster. A zero-MP hit all enemies attack is great. Plus, he does some pretty awesome things in the plot as well.

I love Yang because, at least in the DS version, he's clearly a white blond kung fu master from a normal Western fantasy kingdom. Just like Edge is a white ninja from a similar place.

Yang's definitely one of my favorite party members. Also, glad to know that I get him back eventually. Do you get Cid back, too? Please?

At the endgame of the GBA/PSP versions, you get all but 2 party members back. If you know the story, it should be obvious who is out.
