Hello everybody, we've got some stuff to do. First, we'll step into the town of Baron. Everyone in town is either scared of us or respects Cecil's status as a dark knight. Despite this the cheapskates don't give us anything, except for a dancer who does a little dance for us. Also, oddly enough, the weapon and armour shop is closed. Not like we need it right now anyway.

People in Baron, however, do tend to have stuff lying around on the ground. We take this chance to pick up quite a few healing items. There's also a few items we can take from the inn by pressing some swords on the wall, which somehow opens a storeroom.

We leave Baron and head southwest, taking us to a Chocobo forest. We could get a Chocobo here to take us straight to our destination, but I prefer fighting things.

Speaking of fighting things, I better look at our two current characters:

Cecil Harvey is our main character for this tale, and he's a Dark Knight. Cecil pretty much revolves around pure melee, his attacks are quite strong, with the Dark Blades he equips being very powerful weapons, and he has Darkness, which allows him to attack all enemies for some of his HP. Cool, but impractical to spam. He starts at level 10.

Kain Highwind is a Dragoon. Kain can equip a variety of bladed weapons, but he'll mainly be using Spears, as they tie in with his special command, Jump. After a small charge, Kain will fly into the air, making him immune to damage, and after a turn has passed, he comes back down on an enemy, causing damage which is increased when he's got a Spear equipped. As you can tell, he's another pure melee character. He also starts at level 10.

I guess I should also explain the battle mechanics. Final Fantasy IV was the first game to use FF's Active Time Battle system. Essentially, a bar fills at a speed based on your Agility stat, and when that bar is filled, a character can act. Most special abilities also require some casting time, but it's not that bad in the Complete Collection version, compared to some other versions of the game.

The enemies around Baron are all pitifully weak, we mow through them as we head northwest. This takes us to the Mist Cave. As the name implies, it's quite misty. The path is also very linear, aside from one or two chests, but as we progress...

TURN BACK.

Cecil: What? Who's there!?

Probably nothing. Continuing further, however...

LEAVE AT ONCE.

Kain: Could that be the Eidolon of Mist Valley?

We continue even further...

KNIGHTS OF BARON, I SEE...

Kain: Who are you!?

LEAVE NOW, OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.

Kain: Show yourself!

YOU CHOOSE TO IGNORE MY WARNINGS?

Of course I do.

Cecil: We have to get to Mist! We're not turning back.

SO BE IT.

Kain: The mist is gathering!

The mist does gather, and we fight the Mist Dragon, our first Boss Battle. Simple fight, we just have to out damage it. Cecil attacks and Kain Jumps. After a while, however...

The dragon turned into mist!

Now it's untouchable, and attacking causes a nasty counter attack. We just have to wait it out, then go back on offence. Still easy. After killing the dragon, we leave the cave.

That's all for now guys, next update will have us enter the village of Mist.

I'll post some stats here, for people who are interested (Anyone who needs an explanation, just ask):

Kain: Lv 11 HP:216 MP:0 Strength:10 Speed:12 Stamina:10 Intellect:6 Spirit:12 Attack:13 (2 attacks) Defence:15 Magic Defence:1

Cecil: Lv 11 HP:222 MP:0 Strength:14 Speed:11 Stamina:12 Intellect:6 Spirit:3 Attack:15 (2 attacks) Defence:18 Magic Defence:1

You know, I think FFIV has a very interesting start, mechanics wise.

It's always a bit of a problem with RP Gs, they start you off terribly weak and limited. FFIV does well in avoiding this. Cecil and Kain both feel like powerful warriors, and they have some interesting tactical options in their commands.
