Chapter 28: Another Story, part 1

{Yellow pays a brief visit to Lavender Town to give suitable nicknames to Omanyte and Aerodactyl: They are given the names Nyte and Aero. Afterwards, he returns to Cinnabar.}

Yellow: The gym is locked... I guess there's only one thing left to do on this island...

  • Battle Team Changed:
    • Elliot the Lapras, Lv 22
    • Nyte the Omanyte, Lv 30
    • Torte the Wartortle, Lv 30
    • Bruce the Hitmonlee, Lv 32
    • Lumina the Pikachu, Lv 36
    • Leviat the Gyarados, Lv 36

  • Cinnabar Mansion

Yellow: It didn't look that bad from outside, but the inside of this place is trashed. Lumina, do you get any wierd feelings from this place?

Lumina: Pi Ka. Not a thing, It's simply another nest of wild Pokemon.

Yellow: Well, let's take a look around...

{Yellow finds a moon stone lying on top of a decorative block of marble. A wild Growlithe attacks, but it Elliot is able to defeat it to grow to level 23.}

Yellow: Yeah, I thought there might be Fire pokemon here. It'll be a great place to train for the gym.

{Yellow finds an escape rope, as well as some familiarly designed shutters.}

Yellow: There should be a way to open these...

{In a room in the northwest corner of the building, Yellow finds a secret switch and activates it. Checking it's effect, it becomes clear that it opened at least one shutter, but closed others. Unfortunately, it didn't open any important areas. Meanwhile, wild Rattata wear down Elliot with their Super Fang attacks. Nyte has to switch in to deal with a Raticate.}

Nyte: So, these are the creatures of the land... I hadn't thought such beings possible.

Lumina: It's been eons since your previous life. A lot has changed... Honestly, I'm surprised you accepted Yellow so readily.

Nyte: I... am not sure why myself. For one thing there is an aura of command around him...

Lumina: Pi. That must be the Gym badges. They're supposed to be symbols of tactical victory, but they seem to have some other powers, including coercion.

Nyte: So that is why he is followed... why we must fight to protect him...

Lumina: No. He earned my trust before he started obtaining them. You met him afterwards, so that's why it stands out to you.

Nyte: I see. And those spheres?

Lumina: They have many functions, including storing Pokemon like us, and acting to keep us alive if we take serious injury. That safety is another reason to follow humans, but I prefer not to rely on it.

Nyte: But what is the use of being alive, but trapped inside?

Yellow: Tch. Elliot is in bad shape. No point sticking around when he's like this. Lumina, we're headed back to the Pokemon center.

Lumina: That's what.

{On the next visit to the Pokemon Mansion, Yellow goes up the stairs to the second floor}

Yellow: I've never seen wild pokemon this strong before.

Lumina: True enough. Live must have been difficult... but they still haven't learned strategy.

Burglar: I can't get out! This old place is one big puzzle!

{The burglar uses Lv 34 Charmander and Charmeleon. Elliot is able to take them on with a little item support, but the wild Rattata are up to level 40. Elliot grows to level 24}

Burglar: Oh no! My bag of loot! Switches open and close alternating sets of doors!

Yellow: I'm a bit surprised they're still working properly. (Why were they needed in the first place I wonder...)

{Wild Grimer have also been attracted to the building... or perhaps they achieved life here? In any case, these living sludge creatures also ooze forward to bar the path. And there are many paths to take. There is a stairway up to the third floor immediately by the stairs that led up to the second, but the wreckage has isolated the part of the third floor it leads to.}

Burglar: This place is like, huge!

{This one has a Lv 38 Ninetales.}

Elliot: Hmm. It looks like I'm going to need to get my flippers dirty if I want to keep up against other kinds of opponents.

{Elliot grows to level 25 and learned Body Slam over Growl.}

Burglar: Ayah! I wonder where my partner went.

Yellow: (Looks like I was right. This has been good training. Hm, what's this book on the table?)

Scientific-looking diary: Feb. 6 Mew gave birth. We named the newborn Mewtwo.

Yellow: (What in the world...?)

{Yellow finds a Max potion and Max Revive, then goes back down to the second floor to look for other routes.}

Diary: July 5 Guyana, South America. A new Pokemon was discovered deep in the jungle.

{Nyte grows to level 31 fighting a wild Muk, and Elliot grows to level 26 fighting off Rattata. He finds a Calcium lying around.}

Diary: July 10 We christened the newly discovered Pokemon, Mew.

Yellow: Okay, that explains a bit about what Mew was...

Lumina: Pi? Did you say Mew?

{Yellow finally reaches another staircase up to the third floor, where he finds an Iron supplement. Elliot grows to level 27.}

Scientist: My mentor once lived here.

{This scientist catches most of Yellow's team off guard with Lv 33 Magnemite, Magneton, and Voltorb. Bruce helps take down Magnemite, but is Paralyzed. Lumina comes in against Magneton, and Nyte endures Voltorb's Selfdestruct.}

Scientist: Whew! Overwhelming! So, you're stuck? Try jumping off that ledge over there!

{Before Yellow can, Elliot is defeated by a wild Raticate, and Torte grows to level 31 counterattacking.}

Torte: Alright, another new move- ah, lame! I can't win any fights by hiding in my shell! Pass!

{Torte chooses against learning Withdraw.}

Yellow: I'll keep that in mind for later. Right now, I've gotta go!

Lumina: R-right! ...I wonder, was the Great Mother really here?
