Twentieth update. And we're still with the ugly things. Ugly things basically come in groups and change color to get different properties. In this case, I believe they get ice resistance and ice damage. See the rainbow, kill the rainbow.

As you'll remember last time, Demi Fiend barely escaped death multiple times in a row and is now busying trying to get upstairs. And meet the first of several newer, tougher enemies that now appear. This is a cyclops, they're like ogres except they can actually take a hit and have a ranged attack, namely toss huge honking boulders at you that hurt real bad. Just lure it in close as a melee character and engage from where it can't hit you with those big honking rocks.

Your +0,+0 war axe emits a brilliant flash of light!

It was a scroll of vorpalize weapon.

Okay, so scrolls of vorpalize weapon, if you weapon has new temporary brand on it, it just becomes a vorpalized weapon, which means it simply does extra damage. If it does have a temporary brand on it, like a wizard enchanted his sword to have flames on it for a while, it permanently keeps that property. Nice, right?

Salvation? Give any other situation, I might actually give a damn what's in there, but reaching the horde is the current number priority. Floor 12 goes by without anything really big happening.

The Lair is a branch of the dungeon that contains lots and lots of animals. We'll get there eventually. However, me and that staircase have a date in the very near future.

Having used too many smites down stairs, I can't exactly use the regrouping ability right now due to insufficient piety, but I did meet two of my followers. Anyway, this is a troll. Like the player race, they hit hard and tank like a pro... and that's all they do, aside from insane HP regeneration, but you shouldn't give them a chance to do that. It goes down easy since I've already taken on much, much tougher stuff.

*sniff* It's so good to see you guys again. Onto the next floor! This is Urug. He's basically a fighter orc and I don't actually know if I can convert him.

You kill Urug!

Beogh accepts your kill.

Well, darn, he stayed defiant to the end. Joseph shows up again, except, you know, I've gained levels since then and so he quickly becomes a bloody splat. Grum is similarly out gunned.

You feel extremely strange.

You feel robust. You feel frail. You begin to radiate repulsive engery.

It was a potion of mutation.

So mutations are basically things that can be good or bad that cause your body to change. In this case, this mutation caused Demi Fiend to gain 10% max HP, and then lose that 10%, and then gain +2 EV. So I got profit of one good (but minor) mutation from this.

You fall through a shaft!

OH COME ON! I don't have time for this shit! Back down three floors. Anyway, these are slime creatures. They're relatively unnotable except for the fact that they can merge, which heals them, makes them stronger, and hit harder. If it's gone colossal, just don't bother, that's death right there.

Back here, I found there was a portal here that timed out. Oh well. Anyway, the trip back up this time isn't nearly as eventful. But now we're at the home land. The Orcish Mines is home to tons and tons of gold, orcs, and other such things. And Harold, some melee/caster hybrid unique.

Aside from being a very open place to mob or get mobbed (which you will get mobbed down here), there's also a variety of uniques, like Maurice, who will try to steal stuff from you. He goes down anyway. And looky at what I can afford now. Demi Fiend is now running around with a whomping 27 strength. Who's awesome? Demi Fiend is.

This is an ettin. They're basically hill giants with two heads and the same gimmick as two headed ogres. We are just hitting up the uniques today, aren't we? Erica is a pure caster and if you'll remember Sprint, she's quite resistant to a variety of enchantments and has a flaming sword as well as a handful of okayish spells.

And Maud! Maud is basically a fighter and a bit of an in joke among the Roguelike community. I don't know much more about her than that. She's known for carrying a demon blade with her and sometimes generating with over the top awesome armor. Anyway, that's enough for now, we'll see more of the mines later.
