episode 17: when time passes, even things you don't like

The episode image has Tsukasa running. She seems worried about being late.

if you can't push...

Miyuki's mother reminds hir that she should have her teeth checked before school starts. She knows, but says she doesn't deal with it well. Her mother feels bad about sending her to the office, so she starts to call to see if a dentist would come to their home. Miyuki doesn't like that solution, either.

let it sit

Konata's in charge of making dinner, so she's going shopping. Tsukasa asks what she'll be making. It's everyone's favorite: chicken curry! Tsukasa relates something she heard about curry getting tastier when you let it sit overnight. Konata decides to try it out by making a little extra. (Oddly, in that panel, she has "I see." above her head outside of a speech balloon, and also as the first thing she says in one.)

The next day, she calls Tsukasa, and sadly reports that it rotted, and had mold growing in it. Tsukasa seems shocked.

miss play-along

Kagami remarks that it's been a while since they last wore these (summer) uniforms. Tsukasa greets Konata. Konata greets them by name, using "-san", and with a "How do you do?" or whatever it is in Japanese. She points out that Tsukasa's ribbon is tied crooked, and sets to straightening it. Tsukasa asks her what's wrong. Kagami seems to consider it gross. Konata then reveals that she's gotted hooked on [[Maria-samaGaMiteru a certain series]]. Tsukasa wonders what it's about, but Kagami just thinks she gets influenced too easily.

already leading

Kagami jokingly warns her not to mimick costumes from things like that, but Konata says she wouldn't go that far, as she already cosplays at work. The Hiiragis are reminded that she works in a place where that's done.

a year for storms

Tsukasa mentions the amazing Olympics that year, and says they (Japan) got so many medals. Konata is reminded that once every two years... so many "special programs" get aired. (Thus bumping her anime out of the way.)

a large typhoon

Kagami asks if she doesn't get touched by the idea of athletes doing their best, but Konata doesn't, even though she did watch some. She says that they do the satellite feed during late nights, and thinks they should show it again during the day or in the evenings, with special programming. In the worst case, both prime-time and late-night anime gets canceled. Kagami reminds her that it only happens once every two years.

rubbing salt on a wound

Kagami asks her why she doesn't subscribe to cable if she wants to watch it that much. Konata would get it, but none of the companies provide service there.

one reason to dislike

Miyuki seems gloomy. Tsukasa greets her and points this out, asking if something happened. Miyuki went to have her cavity treated. She asks why it is when you go to a dentist once, you have to keep going back. Tsukasa knows how that is, saying she hasn't been able to finish something in one or two visits.

cardboard soldiers

Konata is feeling sunk. Yui comes over, and Konata relates that she took her advice (see last episode, "answer that can be made immediately"), and now, she has to do it over. Yui figures that if she tries to get help from her, she'll end up having to do it over yet again.

let's go shopping

Kagami is reminded that the new light-novel is out today. Konata is reminded that the new issues of Comptiq and Newtype are, as well, and invites Kagami to go to Gamers with her. Kagami is settling for the normal bookstore, and she has errands to run. Konata says this is where she comes to nurture their beautiful friendship. Kagami thinks she's coming on strong, but Konata reveals that it's just because she wants points from everyone's purchases. Kagami thinks it's cheap that that's what friendship is to her. In the sketch space, Kagami asks if it wouldn't be easier to invite a boy, since she's going to Gamers, and they never see any to begin with. Konata is just all about the points at the moment.
