episode.2: Wastebasket Woes

After a couple of exterior panels, we find Chika sitting in a wastebasket, and Nobue and Miu playing Super Famicom. Chika says, "This is so stupid," then sends us back half an hour...

Episode 2: Wastebasket Woes

(On the episode page: the four girls are represented three times each in an oval around the middle of the page. They have on different outfits in each iteration. The general direction that their torsos are facing is clockwise; I'm saving the exceptions for the end.

Starting just above the lower right-hand corner: Chika is looking at John with a "heart" floating near her face. John is being carried by Nobue, who has a question mark. Matsuri has her head turned to look at John, as if worried about what he might do (e.g., jump down and run off). She's also wearing wings, for some reason. Miu has a hand on her own head. Chika has her head turned partway, and is looking back with her eyes. She seems to be saying something to Miu. Nobue is frowning at the reader. Matsuri is giving a small smile to the reader, with a "heart" near her head. Her right hand is brought up, with her palm facing her face. There's a small spiral between her palm and her face. Miu's humming or whistling something. Chika has John in her hands, and a question mark by her face. John is wearing a tiny pair of sunglasses. His right forepaw is by his face. Nobue is frowning and looking at Chika pointing at Matsuri and Miu. She seems to be saying, "Do you see what those two are doing!?" And what they're doing... well, Matsuri is wearing her regular glasses and Niu is wearing shades. Both are facing the reader. Matsuri's eyes are closed. They have the inside wrists of their right hands up to the side of their faces. Miu has kind of a look of cool on her face... I'm not sure Matsuri's got it down. Each girl's background is white, but the overall background is black with white strawberries. There's a round white area in the center, which is where the title is.)

Chika's trying to do homework. (Chika with glasses! YMMV as to whether it's an improvement.) Nobue, on the other hand, is bored and wants Chika to play with her and do her homework later. Nobue starts wiggling the chair, making Chika accidentally scribble on her workbook. She tells Nobue to cut it out, but it's not happening.

(Exterior shot!) Chika is reluctantly seated on the cushion in front of the controller. Suddenly, Chika gets a text, and she goes to get it. Nobue is getting frustrated. Chika complains to herself about Nobue's inability to wait. It's from Miu: "Wachoo doing rn?" Nobue wonders why she texted; they live close enough to just yell through the window. Chika replies: "Playing vgame w/ N." Meanwhile, Nobue is back to shaking Chika's chair. (Miu peeks in through the window.) Chika asks if Nobue really can't wait ten seconds, but Nobue needs attention, so...

While Chika's starting to say something else, Miu flops on the bed, and pushes herself up to greet the two. Chika asks her why she doesn't use the door. Nobue mentions how she always looks so cute, and Miu, well... knows. So Miu and Nobue start playing Super Mario Kart, and selecting the Mushroom Cup, and deciding whether to be Luigi or Mario. Chika is relieved that Nobue is distracted and she herself can get back to her homework. Meanwhile, one of them is throwing something — probably a banana peel — outside the course without knowing how. So they talk about the game while Chika's doing homework, and talking to herself about it... so when one of them advises "use the wingy thing" (the Feather), Chika says it in her directions.

Chika finally gives up on getting homework done while Nobue's bent on playing video games with someone, and sits down to watch. Nobue's kart keeps falling down (Ghost Valley 1?) and Miu makes a crack about it being "a race game, not a falling game," which amuses Chika and angers Nobue. The fact that it amused Chika didn't help Nobue's mood, either. So when Chika started laughing into her hands, Nobue threw her controller, picked up Chika, and put her in the wastebasket. And then Chika breaks the fourth wall. She asks for help... and waits. Miu decides to do something about it: read an encyclopedia. And then she starts off.

It becomes time for dinner, and Miu asks what they're eating. Nobue reminds her that she lives next door, and therefore has her own food. Chika, still stuck, tells them not to leave her, to no avail. She tries to get out again, and Nobue and Miu peek in undetected. The wastebasket falls over, and Chika notices the two, and yells at them to stop just standing there and help her out. They have a reaction that I really don't understand, but that might just be because of how it was translated. There's a thought bubble that seems like it might be pointing to Miu, but I'm not sure. Whoever it is thinks "So... so wonderful!" (One translation I read — maybe it was onemanga or mangafox — said "cool" instead of "wonderful"; I don't know.)

Episode dividers!

This time, it's "Miu" and "spring"; both are "checked" with hearts. Miu faces the reader. Her right eye is closed, and her tongue is stuck out a little in a playful manner. Her left hand is behind her head, and her right hand is on her right hip. Next page, it's "Matsuri" and "spring", the squares of which are filled in. Matsuri faces the camera with a smile, and is holding her purse strap with both hands.

Next time: Episode 3!
