* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: For all the film's problems, you cannot deny that the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcEeakcNB0k main theme]] is pretty damn awesome. In fact, most of the score is actually quite beautiful out of context. It helps that [[DoItYourselfThemeTune director/composer]] Harry Bromley Davenport is a classically trained pianist.
* NauseaFuel: Sam's "rebirth", which involves him impregnating the cottage lady to give birth to himself - fully grown.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Analise is played by Creator/MaryamDabo in her film debut, before becoming famous for being the Bond Girl in ''Film/TheLivingDaylights''.
* {{Squick}}: The birth scene, the "hickey" scenes and Analise's transformation.
* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: It's pretty much ''Film/{{Alien}}'' by way of Creator/DavidCronenberg as interpreted by a stoner. That last part is not an exaggeration, by the way -- Davenport was regularly stoned during production of the film.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: This was an issue that many critics, including Creator/RogerEbert, had with the film -- the tone is so spiteful and nihilistic that it's almost painful to watch.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The practical effects are excellent, and have held up extremely well over the years. Sam's first form in particular is a real stand-out example.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: Davenport has insisted that the film was only meant to shock people and there is "no thought to it at all", which scuppers any chance to interpret the film. Then again, this was two decades after he made the film and he was only one of FOUR writers on the film (not counting the producer's influence), so maybe he's unreliable.
