* ContestedSequel: This game wasn't as well received as [[VideoGame/TrueCrimeStreetsOfLa the first title.]] But has its fans.
* MemeticMutation: "Get that motherfucker!"[[labelnote:Explanation]]This line is said by "Male Average Black Pedestrian" was made popular in ''WebAnimation/TeamFabulous2'' when RED Scout says this in response to a friendly Heavy getting sniped by a BLU Sniper.[[/labelnote]]
* SelfImposedChallenge: Like the first game, it's possible to go all the way through [[PacifistRun disabling enemies non-lethally]]. However there are two exceptions-Tommy, the Triad goon (who Marcus throws off the crate at the end of his boss fight) and [[spoiler:Terry, who gets killed by Marcus either accidentally or on purpose depending on which ending you get]].
* PortingDisaster: While the Platform/PlayStation2 version, which was developed first, is far from a technically perfect game, the other versions exhibit even worse problems.
** The PC version has issues such as broken sound effects and an inconsistent frame rate, which are only exacerbated by playing the game on a modern computer.
** The Platform/{{Xbox}} version is free of the graphics and sound issues that plague the other ports, and could have been a competent port were it not for the developers mistakenly pushing the ''wrong build'' of the game into production, resulting in the game having problems with AI, physics, and controls, to the point where beating one of the game's bosses requires ''frame-perfect'' inputs.
** The Platform/NintendoGameCube version is possibly the worst of the bunch, featuring massively downgraded textures and missing graphical effects, a terrible frame rate, and a ton of bugs and crashes, even compared to the other versions, including a bug that ''can corrupt your memory card.'' Dolphin, a [=GameCube=] & Wii emulator, has [[https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=True_Crime:_New_York_City the game's wiki page]] include a list of many of the game's bugs and problems just to clarify that they're not emulation issues -- the game is really just that broken. It went to the point that the Dolphin emulator advised the following: "The following is a bit of an odd request, but we at the Dolphin team highly recommend that casual users do not play True Crime: New York City in Dolphin or on [=GameCube=]/Wii at all. '''Period.'''" ''(boldface added for emphasis)''
