* CompleteMonster: Wilfred Hermeien is the detestable Duke of Nagapur, head of the Congress and de facto ruler of the whole continent, but is unsatisfied with this, wanting to be crowned GodEmperor. To this end, he creates the Third Committee to perform unethical Remnant research using kidnapping, human experimentation, threatening people to work for them, stealing Remnants from various settlements and many other crimes. Forming a deal with the Conqueror, Hermeien stages a war where the Conqueror would attack the continent and Hermeien would save the day, uncaring how many of his troops would die. Also kidnapping Rush Sykes's sister Irina, whom has Marion's Blessing, to strengthen his claim to God Emperor, Hermeien is eventually betrayed by the Conqueror, forced to work for him and made an experiment where he is given great power. Still coveting world domination, Hermeien poisons various leaders of the game world with his newfound power to slowly kill them before The Conqueror kills him for his hubris.
* GameBreaker:
** David's Gae Bolg cannon and Pagus' Megalore are almost guaranteed to wipe out every bad guy on the map at once, except for bosses. Both weapons have the same trigger conditions, so if David and Pagus are both leading for a large battle, you can manipulate things so that chances are one or both of them will be ready to go with whole-field-clearing special attacks every single turn.
** in the PC version. More powerful than Gae Bolg, and with a simpler trigger condition, provided have been recruited.
** The Blackout Arcana. It's learnt by lots of leaders, has lax requirements (100AP and 2 other Invocations/Evocations in the union) which makes it easy to spam, and hits all active enemy unions on the field.
** The quests Wisdom's Echo and The Cosmos Maiden. The former respawns Landworms constantly until you defeat the target monster. Keep chaining all 20 of them to get a 99-chain per fight, and you'll have ridiculous stats relative to your Battle Rank/main story progress. The latter contains a rare monster that has a 100% spawn rate whenever you initiate the quest. Engage and abort the quest as much as you like, since you always capture the monster, and can be sold for about 60 000 gold. Lots of money and a good punching bag!
** The Mystic Seal formation on a NewGamePlus is phenomenal. Combine that with the Wisdom's Echo and your party members are in a good starting position to break the game while the Battle Rank is still low.
** In the remaster, Caustic Blast becomes broken as fuck. It was always good, being a strong spell that hits every unit in a union and can also hit units in nearby unions, but the remake extends its range to basically the entire battlefield. A single use will wipe the entire enemy team more often than not.
%%* GoddamnedBats: Spiders and roseflies. ARGH.
%%* HoYay:
%%** The bartender in Athlum.
%%** Pretty much every interaction David and Rush have.
* MagnificentBastard: TheConqueror is a brutal, ruthless, godlike man whose strength is rivaled only by his keen strategic mind and whose presence is felt in every scene he's in. A Warden of the Remnants and a sort of Remnant himself, The Conqueror deceives Duke Wilfred Hermeien, manipulating him into thinking he's in control of The Conqueror while The Conqueror himself attacks various settlements and steals their Remnants. One notable conquest has him lead the armies of Athlum away from their city with his own troops so he could single handedly attack it, fighting and killing Emma Honeywell and stealing the Remnant Valeria Heart. Betraying Hermeien, he forces him to be a test subject by infusing him with power to see what would happen to the world if he released Remnants. Seeing that the result would be the death of humanity, The Conqueror sees this as a reasonable price to pay, believing that human exploitation of Remnants would destroy all of reality. Defeated by Rush Sykes' HeroicSacrifice, the last we hear of The Conqueror is him speaking with Rush in post credit dialogue, affably asking him if he is going to return to the world. With an iron will and a cause he believes to be noble, The Conqueror is a simple yet electrifying antagonist.
* Narm: Much like the Geneon dub of the first VisualNovel/FateStayNight anime, when David activated his Gae Bolg, he pronounced it "Gay Bulge". Insert "Rho Aias" joke here.
* NightmareFuel:
** Oculus enemies. And the Gates of Hell, although, there might be more than one reason.
**
* PolishedPort: The PC version fixes the technical issues of the original [=Xbox360=] version, making the game run very smoothly. The port also fixed the gameplay (removing the leader system, letting you use as many unique units as you wish), increased maximum squad size, and rebalanced the entire game in general.
* ReplacementScrappy: Emmy to Emma. It's not necessarily that Emmy is a bad character, but Emma is pretty well loved and then after her tragic death, you get a character that looks a lot like her without actually being her as a replacement and it just isn't the same, especially since after Emmy's introduction, she has not a SINGLE cutscene or conversation with Rush to build her characterization.
* ScrappyMechanic: In the UsefulNotes/Xbox360 version, you could only have one unique character per squad, forcing you to fill the rest of the squad with generic soldiers. This was very notable considering you recruit enough unique units to fill twice what your maximum endgame army count is by the end, meaning the vast majority of the units you recruit go unused.
%%* ThatOneAttack: Savage (White) Conqueror. War God. No morale. That's all that needs to be said.
%%** While only true on the X360 version as you can "cure" (read: kill then revive) it on the PC, Curse. Doesn't make it any less annoying in either version though.
* ThatOneBoss: Gates of Hell. It has two free attacks that it can perform while it's in its turn, both which can hit all the deadlocked teams (it has multi-deadlock), not counting its attacks in its main attack phase, which means it can attack 3 times in a turn. The problem is that a lot of players will try to deal as much damage to the boss as possible, causing nearly all your teams to engage in deadlock with the boss, which will result in massive damages being dealt to nearly everyone. And if a group is dead, the boss will cast Pandemonium, turning the dead group against you. The best way to beat it is to keep only few teams to engage it, and let the rest acting as healers and rotate in if possible to maximize the survivability.
