* CrazyIsCool: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Mad]] the dwarf who ends up giving Rincewind a ride, which quickly descends into a ''Film/MadMax'' like chase. He then later stands up for an extremely drunk Rincewind and starts a bar brawl.
-->'''Mad''': Most people call me mad.
-->'''Rincewind''': Just “Mad”? That's an... unusual name.
-->'''Mad''': It ain't a name.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Mrs Whitlow, the formidable head of housekeeping at the Unseen University. While she briefly appeared in other ''Discworld'' titles, ''The Last Continent'' gives her a chance to shine. She manages to remain prim and proper while also surviving on a desert island thousands of years in the past, but isn't above making an oversized bikini, or a ''newzealand'', to wear and is the only one brave enough to explain how sex works to the bewildered God of Creation. For added amusement is the fact that the majority of the wizards keep falling over themselves to make her happy and even squabble like children for her attention.
** Trickster, the supernatural entity who often manifests as the kangaroo who helps Rincewind on his quest to bring back the rain. His sarcastic yet helpful nature plays along wonderfully with Rincewind's frequent exasperation, and Trickster's sense of humour amounts to letting Rincewind get into trouble, only to help him at the very last second. Of note is the time he spends as Snowy, a tiny horse who determinedly plods his way down cliffs and overhangs of rock while Rincewind can only cling on for dear life.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Upon learning about portals, Ponder's first idea is to set them up for [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} infinite falling]].
** Rincewind demanding his hat back during the ''Film/MadMax'' sequence is uncannily similar to the "That's mine!" RunningGag from ''Fury Road''.
** Rincewind is trapped in heavy duty cell in Bugarup, but finds out that the notorious outlaw Tinhead Ned was able to consistently get out of the cell because of the door's half-pin hinges, meaning all he had to do was lift the door right off of them. Five years later, and [[Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbeanTheCurseOfTheBlackPearl another notorious outlaw]] ends up using the same method.
* NightmareFuel:
** Being trapped hundreds of thousands of years in the past on an island in the middle of no-where with no known way to return to your time. Of course, the wizards being, well, wizards, take it all in their stride and even seem appeared relieved on finding out.
--->'''Senior Wrangler''': Oh, is that it?
** The wizards and Mrs Whitlow having their morphic fields drastically changed while swept up in a wave of raw and powerful magic, leading to [[FountainOfYouth the older wizards reverting to teenagers and toddlers and Mrs Whitlow being 'in her prime'.]] Unfortunately poor Ponder gets hit with RapidAging instead and becomes even older than the wizards ever were.
* TheWoobie:
** Poor Rincewind finds himself in a strange country and once again is forced to undergo a quest that he didn't volunteer for. On top of that, apparently Rincewind arriving in Fourecks in the first place was what caused all of the trouble to begin with. Somehow. So he spends most of his time running from danger, almost dying of thirst until he starts falling into random waterholes, accidentally upsets the locals with his InnocentlyInsensitive questions about the ''weather'' of all things and is even blamed for a crime that he didn't commit, he was actually trying to ''save'' the sheep, not steal it.
** The Librarian, who catches a magical illness that causes him to keep shapeshifting against his will whenever he sneezes. He just wants to cuddle under his blanket and get better, but one sneeze later and he's a hot water bottle covered in red fur.
