* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Thanks to Yellow Diamond's AmbiguousSyntax villain song, is she truly TheStoic, or does she just hide her feelings? She's also shown having trouble bottling her emotions.
** [[http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/steven-universe-concludes-its-arc-peek-diamonds-hi-249213 This review]] brings up another interesting possibility: Does Yellow genuinely sympathize with Blue, or is she faking it to get through to Blue and get her back on track?
** In any case, Blue Diamond is no longer the stoic she was in "The Answer", and is openly emotional to others as she grieves and shows her face. [[TookALevelInKindness She also seems to be much kinder to other Gems]] (keeping most of the remaining Quartzes that had been made on Earth, including the differently-shaped ones) compared to "The Answer", where she was willing to have Ruby shattered just for accidentally Fusing with another Gem whilst saving her. Did Pink Diamond's death change her, was she not as bad as Garnet made her out to be, or is she just hoarding every possible reminder of Pink?
** Did Blue Diamond recognize Ruby and Sapphire as the ones that betrayed her, or just ones of many? Something that doesn't help is that Sapphire forgot (or neglected) to put a blue diamond on her outfit to mark her as one of Blue Diamond's Gems for their ruse, which can add another layer for interpretation; If Blue Diamond ''did'' recognize Ruby and Sapphire, did she let them go because she's changed since Pink Diamond's death, or because her grief over Pink Diamond's death is so strong and constant that she just doesn't care to deal with them?
* CryForTheDevil: The Diamonds are tyrannical despots who are directly or indirectly responsible for untold suffering for their own people and those on Earth (something this arc makes no attempts to sugarcoat and showcases fully)... and Blue and Yellow are both heartbroken and in mourning over [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes the death of Pink Diamond]] to the point even six thousand years later both of them haven't come ''close'' to moving on.
* FridgeHorror: Jasper may have been perfect, but she was still made on Earth, just like the completely functional Prime Amethysts living at the Zoo. Given Holly Blue's FantasticRacism against Gems from Earth, you have to wonder how much flak Jasper must have gotten from higher ranking Gems on Homeworld, even if she ''was'' judged superior enough to remain in Homeworld's regular military.
* HarsherInHindsight: The reveal of Pink Diamond [[BigSisterBully not having been treated very well]] by Yellow Diamond in "Jungle Moon" makes Yellow Diamond's song a thousand times sadder. And "Can't Go Back" and "A Single Pale Rose" crank it up to ''unimaginable'' levels.
* JerkassWoobie: Might as well be "JerkassWoobie: The Episode". The Diamonds are still in control of a fascist hierarchical empire that tried to colonize Earth and are actively trying to still destroy it and all organic life, but damn do they mourn Pink Diamond. Somewhat downplayed by Blue Diamond, who wants to keep reminders of Pink Diamond around and save some of the humans, rather than exterminate Earth like what Yellow wants.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Pearl's SadisticChoice to Holly Blue, and the preceding beat down.
* TearJerker: Yellow Diamond's song, and the sight of her and Blue Diamond grieving.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Between the previous episode and this one, Amethyst ended up meeting the rest of her sisters. However, we're left completely in the dark about how it happened nor do we see their initial reactions to them meeting each other. This is an especially weird choice since Amethyst meeting and being supported by her sisters is largely why she gained a confidence boost and quit wrestling a few episodes later in "Tiger Philanthropist". In fact, "Know Your Fusion" and "On The Run," specifically highlighted Amethyst's poor self image as one of her biggest weaknesses, which, coupled with her having inferiority issues (as shown when she faced Jasper in "Amethyst Vs. Steven," makes this ''especially'' confusing, considering how said emotions tied into her character arc).
