1	* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: WordOfGod has said that the final scene could be just another ImagineSpot for Conor, and he was surprised at how many people took it to be something that actually happened.
2	* AwardSnub: Some were clamoring for the film to get nominations at the Oscars for makeup, costume design and Best Original Song (for "Drive It Like You Stole It"). It's a bit of a sore spot that ''Film/LaLaLand'' received two song nominations while ''Sing Street'' was shut out completely.
3	* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The entire soundtrack, composed of notable 80s and 70s songs, and some pretty great tracks the band perform themselves.
4	* BaseBreakingCharacter: Brendan, although this is mainly due to the choice of the actor. Jack Reynor has developed a massive HypeBacklash from his performance in ''Film/WhatRichardDid'', and some feel he's out of place in the film. Others who like his work in the former, as well as ''{{Theatre/Macbeth}}'' and ''Film/ARoyalNightOut'' enjoyed him in the film.
5	* EnsembleDarkhorse: Eamon gets a lot of love from fans for being an musical prodigy, getting a lot of good lines and just being a really good friend to Conor.
6	* HilariousInHindsight: Barry's father mockingly says to the band "see you at the Oscars". The movie ended up with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
7	** The main character is a boy who starts wearing makeup just because he sees it as part of his style. That is a pretty accurate description of [[Website/YouTube YouTuber]] James Charles.

9	** Brendan slips into BigBrotherBully territory sometimes but he pretty much says that he had to be in the middle of his parents' rows his whole life, and he thinks of himself as TheUnfavourite.
10	** Barry might be a homophobic bully, but he's hit by his nasty father. [[spoiler: He looks so happy to be included at the end]].
11	** Conor's parents too. Although they spend more time fighting than raising their children, and the mother is having an affair, it's hard not to feel sorry for them given how horrible Ireland was for those trapped in unhappy marriages. They say they can't even divorce (it was still banned in Ireland at the time) and can only legally separate.
12	* NeverLiveItDown: Shortly after the film was release, director John Carney was known almost entirely as 'the guy who took a shot at Creator/KeiraKnightley' (who he had worked with on ''Begin Again'').
13	* OneSceneWonder: Ngig's wonderful DeadpanSnarker of a mother.

18	* StoicWoobie: Conor has to put up with a lot of abuse - from neglectful parents, bullies at school and abusive teachers. But he takes it all in stride and doesn't allow himself to break down.
19	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Ann barely features at all in the film, pretty much disappearing after the second act. Kelly Thornton got good critical reviews from her debut performance in ''Life's A Breeze'' and could have added a lot more to the film. She doesn't even factor into Conor's music video DreamSequence, something that features every other character that gets more than one scene. She shows up dancing and listening to music with Brendan and Conor after their parents decide to split, but doesn't hang out with them after that.
20	* TheWoobie: Raphina is an orphan who feels her life has no meaning beyond what she looks like. She puts on an air of being confident, but she clearly desperately wants to escape her empty life. It's a very sobering moment when she rattles off this line.
