Which, of course, is exactly how World War I ended....and set the stage for World War II. Not to mention the fact that the wealthiest parts of Europe were destroyed in the war, and hundreds of billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment were consumed in the fighting, while the East Asian nations were unaffected, and the post-war situation does not look bright. |

The Soviets as a whole are portrayed as decent and honorable men throughout the novel, but it's hard to feel the slightest bit of sympathy towards the soldiers in this incident. |

Morris only barely maintains his composure until he gets back into his car. |
